@will179ea actually, they shooted "rain" and "paperback writer" together in order to send the videos for tv broadcasting. that's why it's quite usual to think one is another and vice versa...
Once again - much respect to a very underrated drummer. He always played as part of the composition, not as a drummer. It's an entirely different approach, at least that's what Neil Peart said about him. BTW - I hate RUSH, but admire their musicianship.
fabulosa cancion! porque usaran todos lentes oscuros en esta cancion? sera por la moda de la epoca o sera para tapar los ojos luego de fumar abundante marihuana?? viva la marihuana!!! la droga mas saludable.
in the beginning of this vid, john resembles evan dando. or should i say, evan looks like john? anyway, john is much more smiley-er...is that a word? it is now ;p
Nice, but a fake. It's the early stereo master with the bass, the overdubbed backwards vocals and most (but clearly not all) of the backing vocals wiped. There are dozens of Beatles bootlegs out there which do the same thing. The Beatles did not record in this way: they would not have laid down part of the backing vocals before the lead vocals or the bass. Crucially, if you listen at 2:18 you can still hear Paul's bass as he plays the high register notes
@thisispop1 Actually they recorded it this way. They wanted to get a louder drums sound. And even if this track is not the original track from master tapes, it gives you a good idea how they recorded it first. So, not a fake.
@will179ea I understand both points here. The Beatles certainly did not add backing vocals prior to the lead vocal. It appears to be the original master with background vocals comming out of one channel and the lead vocals left out (from the other channel). And of course, sped up to match the original speed in the key of "A." On the other hand, fake or not, I think it's fascinating to listen to and I would have loved to have seen it released this way, Ringo's drumming is awesome!
@lakefloor I agree with you, i got this track from the revolver sessions album, and it seems they tried to reproduce the track using a center channel extraction, then they sped it up. I don't think this is the real basic track, but as I said, it gives you a good idea how they recorded the basic track !
At this speed and with the lead guitar so prominent, it sounds a lot more "fundamentally psychedelic", if there is such a thing, than the album version. The vocals were mixed quite loudly, then there's the amazing bass line which was also very prominent in the mix (which I love about the song), along with Ringo's great performance on the drums, that I've never stopped and really head the lead guitar bit in this song.
@will179ea You can do it with the Stereo Remasters and issues from 1987, I also have the individual tracks for e.g. the bass, lead guitar, rhythm guitar, drums and vocals for the singles they released. You can still hear slight vocals on this version.

@will179ea I was really disappointed when I bought the Past Masters - Remasters. I thought Rain would be at least like this version. But actually it sounds crappy, always.
Ringo said this was his best drumming on a Beatles track

Byrds-inspired, I'd say. Excellent, nevertheless.

clue to this drum sound is they began running bass directly into the board. The drums aren't competing with bass here in this recording.
Rikenrocker 2 months ago
Why did they not make the drums sound like this on the rest of their recordings?

@Dadgrug George Martin said that Ringo was like a drum machine. He would almost always have the right tempo and rarely made mistakes.
