a new 2009 model depending on size, and with the bar and lines, will probably set you back between £600 and £950 or thereabouts, they are quite expensive, but that is because it takes alot of R&D to make them.

What is the difference between snow and surf kites?

Most snow kiters use foil kites, which infate on their own by filling up cells. These have no rigid internal structure, and can survive crashing into solid ground. They also lose a lot of power when crashed, and are easier to self launch and self land.

Most water kiters use LEI (leading edge inflatable) which consist of a tubular skin and an internal bladder. These kites are more vulnerable to crashing, but are easier to relaunch on water.

Of course there are people that ride whatever.

I find it hurts my knees the most, but you should be fine. Never too late to start, i started last year, granted i'm only 25 now, but it was a natural progression from just flying power kites.
