Don't knock it till you try it. I have DS-508 and it rocks!! Devices such as these (Qnap Synology Thecus etc) tend to get confused with and a bad rap from imitations available on eBay. The imitators are playing catch up now with features available in these higher end Nas boxes and making mistakes in the process. Mine has been flawless for 1 1/2 years with the more expensive WD Raid Edition drives. Yes it does EVERYTHING as advertised and it does damn good too.

The only thing that is impressive of this thing is that it's energy efficient... But all that software where this guys is totally amassed of is totally useless... FreeNAS can do all of this too, except the IP camera thing, bit if you mange to get Pluto (also open-source) running on it then you can do much, much and MUCH more!

I really hate sales talk, it's always loaded with crap just to collect some dollars or euros :')

not sure if this helps, but if you already have a PS3 for example, i use it to play media from a NAS. There are other relatively inexpensive devices that you can use in conjunction with the DS408 as media player appliances.

Seriously, you're better off with an actual homemade server rather than having an expensive NAS that does more than NAS. Also, 75% is either not used or will be a pain in the butt to use.
