  • @BarryBurtonfan Thanks for response. First time I sang it at a session I was corrected. i think it might be a bit odd for the Newry highwayman to go to Covent Garden to see "the play". Anyway it is a great song and Sean is up there among my favourite singers and the song is now part of my repertoire.

  • I met Sean a few times in Manchester doing various gigs -a great unassuming man with a wealth of talent . . .He was much reveared when he lived in England .

    I was born in Damolly --- The doctors hill, 75 years ago.

    Sean makes a brilliant rendition of this song, Who cares where it was from origionally

  • @7oct1936 is Damolly near Newry? did u know the Murphy family who lived ( i think on Damolly Rd) ? spent many a holiday in ireland, Warren point/Newry, just curious

  • I saw him about 30 years ago in Coventry (possibly in the folk club at the Burnt Post). He was superb then and judging from this recording he has continued to be superb!

  • I saw Sean sing at the White Swan, Fallowfield, Manchester, three or four times in the '90s. What a beautiful voice, and what a character.
