i clean my guns everytime i use them but for some reason i get rust on the barrel does anyone have any advice??? seems like no matter what i do they rust. not super expensive guns but its still annoying trying to take care of something and it gets rust spots on it....would be different if i abused my things
@xxxM85xxx i try not to touch it after. ive been told to oil the outside of the barrel ive been told to keep it dry and just wipe it down. i have a safe with the "dry packs" not sure what brand or what they are called....my dad gets them
@njduquette What kind of oil/cleaner are u using? ever try a different brand. Also the rags ur using they are clean and dont have anything else on them right?
This guy doesn't know what he's doing. Took him more time removing the sling than anything else. Also, don't pump it with the barrel off unless you want to pay to fix it. I did enjoy watching him fumble with the barrel as he tried to reassemble it. Next timee leave the forearm about halfway up. It will make it easier
This gun is too hard to get back together. I would rather have an automatic. An automatic is not as dramatic or scary sounding to an intruder, but will still flat out kill ya, and still be a good bird gun...one you can take apart and put back together when needed.
From what I've read in the manual, you're supposed to rack it back all the way before you take the barrel out and you NOT supposed to slide the pump forward again while the barrel is off. Something about breaking the receiver. If I'm mistaken, someone let me know.
@xxxM85xxx 870 and the 500 are slightly different, I did pulled the slide all the way back and when putting the barrel back in I pushed just a tick too hard and ended up bending the slide cause it caught on the shell interrupter
@xxxM85xxx i agree with your comment, however. remingtons have dual slides, therefore will stand up to more wear and tear, as well as not break as easily. mossbergs unfortunately have single slides which makes them more prone to bendeing breaking etc...
The most I'll put through my gun is 50 rounds a shooting session. Thats basically how I clean mine. Just to be sure though I clean it 1 more time the next day. I have OCD =P
@moparmaniac21 really? i know this sounds bad but ive probably fired about 500 since i last cleaned and oiled it...but im cleaning it now so it's all good =D
I took the barrel off of mine for the first time and now I'm worried I didnb't put it back on securely enough without it blowing my hands off. I'm just paranoid, but are there ways to ensure it's on properly? I fit it in and screwed the cap back on is that enough to be sure?
I HATE THE FACT THAT THE M500 MAGAZINE TUBE CANT BE OPENED AND CLEANED INSIDE........... ITS A PAIN IN THE ASS......... IN MANY OF MY HUNTING TRIPS WE GET SOAKED WET AND RELOADING WHILE RAINING ALLOWS WATER INSIDE THE MAGAZINE TUBE....IF YOU DONT LUBE IT ITLL RUST......THATS ONE OF THE MANY REASONS I LIKE THE 870 OVER THE MOSSBERG
cleaning a mossberg????? iv had mine for about 2 years and never even cleaned it. its got well over 2000 rounds through it to and it still works like a clock! id take a mossberg 500 over a 870 anyday!

Is that really all the cleaning you need for a good 25 to 50 rounds?
cnnroker 1 year ago
@cnnroker you only should clean it every 200 shells. Thats what Mossberg says, shotguns are tough shit.

@RightWingCon81 you couldn't of tightened the screw if the barrel was in wrong or incorrectly. As long as its hand tight your fine.

@xxxM85xxx i too own them both but when it comes to durability and cleaning 870 all the way ..............

@deusredeemer
Yeah you can.. The magazine tube screws off on the mossberg.
generaldabeers 1 year ago
@generaldabeers i know m8 but thats not practical at all....while on the 870 you simply unscrew the cap and you can clean he inside
deusredeemer 1 year ago
@deusredeemer It is easy to open. That was one of the first things I did when I got mine so I could remove the plug and have more than 3 shots.
