  • I still remember the day I came to school in 1st grade and we walked in the computer lab and there were these super awesome new eMacs, and from there I had decided that I love Apple things.

  • How does 10.5.8 run on that emac, I have a imac g4 with 512 ram and 800Mhz ppc g4 chip i want to put leopard in

  • @pd3331 it ran okay.. but it was much more zippy with tiger. 512 mb of ram won't cut it. you're gonna want to max it out.

  • @srojtas96 Thanks!

  • i got to use emacs in middle school, thats what made me fall in love with macs <3

  • @superpup2255 Option+Shift+K=  =D

  • @superpup2255 Lol that's almost the same story that I have with Apple. So glad my school went with Macs.

  • without watching i say

    IMAC WINS

  • what is exactly the open firmware install hack and where can i find it?

  • That eMac was a much older model that isn't even recommended to use that version of the operating system.

  • @Lagomort it depends actually. Leopard shouldn't be used on the earlier ones below 1 GHz while it's perfectly usable on the newer ones from 04 and 05.

  • @Lagomort it depends actually. Leopard shouldn't be used on the earlier ones below 1 GHz while it's perfectly usable on the newer ones from 04 and 05.

  • @srojtas96

Yes,, as said, ...The eMac, being a "700MHz" G4, it was not compatible...

  • @Lagomort its usable if u wanna watch and see how much it crashes! haha

  • @thedidykong1980, I have 6 of the eMacs and all 6 are CRT and G4 processors, I have 3 1GHz PPC G4, 1 1.25GHz PPC G4, and 2 1.42GHz PPC G4 processors

  • I have Harmon/Kardon speakers in my TOSHIBA cause its awesome

  • @skyman2002 It didn't need Intel, it could run on PPC. But I have to admit Leopard runs faster on Intel :)

  • The eMac Is MUCH Slower With Leopard Because It Needs an Intel Processor

  • @skyman2002 This version of Leopard is compiled for both PowerPC and Intel. It was Snow Leopard 10.6 that was Intel-only.

  • What do you do on the emac? I'm just curious- I saw a used one and it was a great price.

  • @ubiquitousfacts Well its a computer you can use it for productivity or procrastination

  • @insecur

I'm going to get one of these incase my macbook pro is ever in the shop. I wonder if it will run snow leopard?

  • @ubiquitousfacts Hmm you might be able to. I am only an amateur with computers but why would you get an emac instead of a more modern equivalent?

  • @insecur

Because it's cheap and it works. I already have a macbook pro laptop, but I want a decent desktop for backup and the occasional web browsing.

  • @ubiquitousfacts Ah I see. I am actually going to try and refurbish an old dell pc for gaming and other stuff even thought I have a macbook pro XD so I guess where kinda on the same page

  • @ubiquitousfacts the highest the emac can run is leopard 10.5, because snow leopard 10.6 runs on intel only. the emac is ppc. i suggest buying an intel computer such as a mac mini (new or used intel) if you need a spare.

  • @insecur touché

  • @srojtas96 lol

  • @ubiquitousfacts nothing now cause i no longer have it :p. however it is being used for basic internet along with garage band and iTunes with the isub attached.

  • G series is trashy.

  • sweet white balance bro

  • How much money did that pack of 100 DVD+R cost?

  • lag

  • why is the emac screen flashing???

  • @marchofthepiggs The CRT monitor of the eMac refreshes faster than the camera does.

  • @srojtas96 actually the refresh rate is slower in this case. if the refresh rate was faster you wouldn't see any flickering. Typical CRT monitors refresh around 90 mhz and most cameras have frame rates from 1/60 to 1/500 of a second. Shooting at 1/60 where the monitor would be refreshing at 90 mhz meaning the monitor is refreshing faster, but at 60fps you won't see any refreshing on camera.

  • @JmChadillonProduct the camera captures at 30fps. the computer crt was at 65hz.

  • @marchofthepiggs ya on regualr non lcvd screens that always happens when being filmed

  • it's a iMac G3 and a intel core 2 duo iMac. The G4 had the neck on it and no CRT display. Thank you

  • @TheDiddykong1980 This is an eMac G4.

  • @TheDiddykong1980 No this is an eMac, you can tell because the iMac g3 didnt come in white, also the g3 iMac cant run OS X, only OS 7-9 can be run on them

  • @hellboy12814 Actually the iMac G3 can run any version of OS X up until Tiger 10.4.11 but it cant run OS 7 only the early ones run OS 8 and the newer ones only run as far back as OS 9. I have an iMac G3 which happily dual boots between OS 9.2.2 and OS X Tiger 10.4.11.

  • @GameStarUK06 I should correct my statement than, Because I am pretty sure (correct me if im wrong) but stock hardware cant run OS X, I think you need to upgrade the RAM, and the HDD (iif you want a decent amount of space)

  • @hellboy12814 The stock hardware can run OS X but more RAM makes a huge difference to performance and a bigger HDD always helps if you are going to store alot of data. Unfortunatly though the G3 iMac can only take HDDs up to 128GB any higher than that and you only get to use the first 128GB on the drive and the rest is useless.

  • @GameStarUK06 I am pretty sure that the the oldest model g3 boxes cannot run os x with the stock RAM it has installed

  • @hellboy12814 You are probably right as I think some of the 1998 model g3s only came with 32mb of ram. I was thinking of slightly newer ones with 128mb that could run os x with the stock ram but of course 128mb Isn't very good for os x so an upgrade will make a huge improvement.

  • @TheDiddykong1980 thats a emac g3 not an imac g3

  • @TheDiddykong1980 nah the G3's were the stupid colored iMacs, indigo, orange etc

  • would this work good if i want to use it mainly just for acessing internet on it? and can i run ubuntu OS on it instead as well?

  • at my school we use the emacs

  • The Reason The eMac is Slow Because - 1. its On A PPC Cpu And is 700Mhz. The iMac is New And It Has A Intel Cpu. - 2. The eMac Is 5 Years Older Than The iMac - 3. There's Only 640MB Of Ram In The eMac And There's 4Gbs Of ram In The iMac. - 4. The iMac is Running Snow Leopard which Is Faster Than Leopard.

  • Hmm... What is the large ring plastic round the back of the computer? I heard it was to help get light into the CRT display

  • Use a CRT monitor? Barf!

  • hey there, are your speakers on the emac silver because you removed the speaker grills or is it a newer model? i just purchased a "like new" used emac on amazon, and think there is only one model but wasnt sure. the white grills annoyed me and i loved the silver and was wondering if i could get mine like that. if you removed them is it a hard task to do?

  • @exsaraoh3 this is the original eMac with the Harman/kardon speakers so they were designed to be easily taken off. if your speaker grilles have really small holes or don't sound great, chances are that you have the new ones, which weren't designed to have them taken out. the old ones with big holes and kick-ass sound (h/k), yes. you may be able to take them out. but on the newer ones, you can, albeit with much more force, but I cannot guarantee that it'll come out in one piece. Good luck!

  • @srojtas96 Thank you!

  • @srojtas96 I have that one and an iMac

  • both

  • Emac sucks

  • @MrTheipodfreak You suck!

  • @MrTheipodfreak Loser

  • of corse the imac is faster then the mac dumass it's like 5 years older

  • ???????????? your emac is was slower then mine my emac is fully booted in 25 secs and it doesent have a flashy screen

  • @Hp1printer2 Your eMac may be running at a faster clock speed and may have a faster hard drive if it was upgraded. The only things that were added to this eMac was 1 GB RAM and a AirPort Card.

  • @Hp1printer2 The screen is flashing because it's a CRT screen (not a flat screen). It wold look normal to the naked eye.

  • @Hp1printer2 lol the reason why it has a flashy screen is the refresh rate of a CRT monitor, our eye's don't pick it up, but most cameras if not all do. So you really don't know anything, your eMac would do the same if you filmed it :P

  • @Hp1printer2 record your eMac with a video camera, it'll be flashy like srojtas96's

  • @Hp1printer2 lol flashy screen.. its the camera picking up its refresh rate.. too fast for the human eye

  • How is the eMac to use with Leopard on it?

  • @compactc9 Sorry I never got a notification about this comment so it may be a bit late. It runs nicely, about the same speed as Tiger. I upgraded it to 1 GB RAM so it's even faster now. It does have a problem that keeps the screen black when waking up from sleep, so I disabled sleep, but if it's asleep for some weird reason, I just use the key combination to safely shut down the eMac.
