Just to let everyone know that I used the Woodland Scenics Incline sets. These sets start you off at "0" grade and increase in height to 4" in a 16 foot long grade.
I would reccomend either a few sidings or a nice sized yard you will get tired of placing and removing the trains and if you want opposing movements you will need a few sidings, watch your clearances...walls and other tracks... also if you plan to scenic the walls you need some kind of barrier from actual scenery to wall... you dont want to see corners nice use of space though in theory!!
I have new and old my layout is actuallly pretty small but its pretty cool it has an airport and everything.(custom made)(by me)I had to take it all down though cause we moved but its going back up soon.
An Arizona desert theme eh? I was thinking of doing a mountaines one, but then, the desert also captures the beauty of railroading! Please keep posting progress on te railroad! please!
Excellent! Great start! Take your time and have fun with it. Only one concern at this time - watch how closely you put your tracks together (where train cars would pass each other), I made that mistake. Anyway your layout has great start!
I'm having my artist neighbor paint Arizona mountains as a backdrop and then paint the table a "sand" color and then adding fine grit stone to make it look like the Arizona desert. I'm currently woeking on a mission style train depot with freight house. This taking longer than I thought but then I'm not in any hurry. I'm also looking into putting in a Garden Railway in the back yard.
um if i were you i would get some intermodal cars and make a siding, and put a lake at one end, and then buy a plastic ship and load it/un-load it with those intermodal cars wth it. i was going to do that with mine but you need a 22" radius turn and i have 18" but oh well.
Oh Ok , I Sorta Envy you that you have the time and space
im only 17 and live with my mother , brother , sister in a 3 room apartment here in Sydney Aus , ill be havin relatives over from Korea soon , i work alot so i got the money , but no space :(
im plannin on a HO or N Scaled Set , mostly cause i want the Eurostar train , though it costs alot :(
Glad to hear from you. What you might consider since you have no room for a large scale layout, you might look into a layout that folds up onto your wall. you hinge one side to the wall and hang chain from the ceiling. You then can fold it up against the wall when you are not working on it.
Have you finished this?

Real nice long run in the space but I too would hope you intend to put in a couple sidings and a small staging yard.

Electricity goes through the metal rails, and goes to a small motor inside the train itself.

ssstnh1996 2 years ago
I would also like to know that, I would think if the power was there you could run 4 or 5 trains, Great layout
MyAussieDay 2 years ago
depending on how long his trains are and if he will model prototypically probably 3 or 4 but with DCC its possible to run about 12 at a time
