  • 35 years later. !st know his name! I shame. But, nice posting.

  • that bassist is slapping that bass fast and loose like some kind of funky priest

  • such a perfect bond between all musicians.. i almost forget the horrible slapback delay there is all along the video ^^ and god is it annoying !

  • I think his tone actually got better when he went bald :V still not bad though.

  • Like most humans doing most things, he got better because he was older and more experienced.

  • this beter then all the music in this time when i listning to this it takes me back in the time to the coolest music time ever you know peace for this man >> follow @malukub

  • 3:04 sucks haha , but the rest its simply amazing!

  • Larry's so, so,....professional now. Back when this video was made, he and the band played with such passion. But Larry is always good.

  • weirdest drum sound i've ever heard! sounds like they put the tape in reverse and added a slap delay so it comes before the actual recorded drum sound! sounds epic though.. like some kind of ultraswing. who's that on bass? he's dope too.

  • @noisyneil Bassist is Robert Popswell

  • Reminds me alot of Steely Dan. It's brilliant! ^_^

  • why is there always arguments on these videos haha, and larry is amazing

  • Great player but I find his posing is a little unsettling to the stomach !

  • Problem is he knows he's good.Even his show in Tokyo with Robben Ford,he still shows it. I don't like Malmsteen because of the same reason. POMP!

  • Nice tone^^

  • For all the musicians out there I have a question: when you are jamming or playing known songs, how often do you look out at an audience or the air or into closed eyes of your mind, rather than your own guitar? Is it a skill to not have to look while you play? Just an honest forum question. Myself, I really try not to look at my fingers. If you want to add your personal story, I'd also love to read about that. marcsince79@hotmail.com ...I have Google translate, so any language is ok.

  • Sound quality or something - not good. A bit too removed from the original but still a dam good performance all round.

  • Larry the Legend

  • Hahahahh....koji kralj!!!

  • Scott Baio ( Chachi ) on keys!

  • this is called having fun with music.

  • So it's captain Spock on the keyboard, Nigel Tufnel on the guitar, some guy from Run DMC on the bass and a Ringo Starr's and Nigel Tufnel's brother on the drums. Great team.

  • TOO GOOD!!!!!!

  • Such a shame, that slap back drum thing totally ruins it

  • WOW- from 4:00 to end he just Smokes!!

  • THE MUSIC IS GREAT! HIS HAIR WAS THE STYLE IN THE 70'S AND HE DOES NOT LOOK STUPID...... HE'S INTO HIS MUSIC!

  • What year is it 1978-1980?

  • BLISS FACE

  • I saw him at the Musicians Institute when I went there in 84'. He had cut off his hair and was playing through a Jim Kelly amp rig...don't know if it was his. I tried to hang at the institute, took all of the classes for several months, but then it was overload- not by any means because of the course load- these guys are the best and they know all about how you should treat students better than most colleges, but degree aside I learned plenty about the world & Hollywood & music for $3,300!RockON

  • Sounds like "Peg"-Steely Dan, doesn't it?

  • @Deskworks thats a fair point.

  • i love the track, but he looks so stupid

  • ....amazing haircut!!....oh,.. the music is something like OK....

  • who's on the keyboard? what a breezy yet dense solo!

  • i wish i was thizzing every time i played guitar

  • icant see taht well....but was he using DUMBLE amps back then?

  • @harveydents He used Boogie marks 1's back then, great amps too

  • Nattering wankers!

  • who bass guitarist?

  • @lennon17100

    his name Abraham Laboriel, bass.

  • @mukaifumio Thank you.I was don't know.Very amazing

  • @lennon17100 I could be wrong, but I think it's Robert "Pops" Popwell. They played together on the Crusaders in the 70's.

  • heh, heh! stiff white boy!

  • Great show in Matosinhos Jazz Festival Yesterday, Thanks!

  • I think I have been ruined for listening to a lot of this stuff from too many LA studio guys in the 70's! Carlton is great of course, but the sound , Lee ritenour, carlos Rios, Jay Graydon et al all sound like the same guy to me .

  • why the weird slapback on the audio? :(

  • Slap back just on drums. Check drum video at 4:20 (dude 420) - it almost looks like he is actually playing it that way - take into consideration there is a delay in the audio/video so it doesn't match up perfectly. Also notice the ( i think ) EV RE20 mics on every drum - seems to be HQ recording with an intended but rather annoying affect.

  • All this unequalled musical brilliance and you wankers are nattering about hairstyles?

  • @jonsilence but it is a video, visual as well as audio Petey, and it is inevitable that we will chatter, however meaningless you find it, in relation the reeeeeeally deeeeeeep shit going on here musically. it is fun to natter, whether you like it or not., and it is a really FUCKED UP hair style from a very fucked up style era. Who the fuck is Nifel Tufnel anyway!? Anti trolling is a form of bigger dick than thou-ness and therefore, is also trolling. trolling for trolls. heh heh

  • @55beanburritos hey,, shut up,,, and listen to the music,, ok??? didn't your mom teach you manners??? Just kidding, but really,,, just enjoy the music, chill! ;^)

  • @55beanburritos Your so full of shit !

Your life must be a misery, why not take your own life and give some other beefburger eating pussy some breathing space.

I would slap your mother right in the face for bringing up a prick like you.

  • I have to ask myself, if Larry was ugly would he have made it that far? I mean its good, but its not super great. I still like Larry Carlton, but that whole Shaun Cassidy look alike thing with the poster makes me wonder. I love the old VCO LFO kbd/synth thing. Those VCO are getting scarce now in analog form. It sounds like "The Weather Channel" at 3:00 AM. LOL They also like Stanley Jordan at The Weather Channel.

  • @Satchmoeddie that's why Larry has no hair now

so he can fit in with the grunge crowd - like he and evertbody else

with long hair did in the 70's cuz it was the style of the day

  • he shredded with steely dan

  • @distortionpf I shredded with my shredder this morning, we made a sweet diced cabbage this morning.

  • This is CHEAP shit compared to what I can do!

  • These guys were simply amazing! Check out all that equiptment!!!

  • What's with the slap-back delay of the instruments in this video?

  • @goldensleeves Yeah, sounds weird to me too. It makes the chorused guitar sound extra creepy :) But I love the song, I've got to learn how to play this one!

  • 2011.2.14. He'd got the 4th times Gramy Award.He's Hot!

  • Carlton in his prime, playing his sig 335.

  • hes a skilled player, but this song is insiped. If i heard it in an elevator, the ground floor couldn't arrive too soon,

  • Sure is nice to hear music and not "loops".

  • Larry is the King of Guitat, and "Pops " Popwell that of bass!!!!!!

  • OMG this is amazing music! Larry and his bass player and keyboardist are tight, tight, tight! Damn!

  • Carlton played with a melodic style that wasn't really being done at the time by the mainstream players. His tone sold a lot of Mesa Boogie amps back then too. Those Mark series maps and Gibson made for a killer combination. There is a lot of great playing on that album. I suggest that the skeptics among us grab that recording and check it out. Not edgy and a little dated maybe, but I doubt you would be put asleep. At the time of its release it was very fresh. Honest!

  • @ musicman3527:

at first, thought you were just a troll. looked at your channel, and see you're a musician with decent chops (but apparently little professional accomplishment). where do you get off sniping at another musician with a far more impressive skillset and resume? are you one of those myopic assholes that thinks the only worthwhile music is the kind you like? and you call yourself a musician? don't know your dad - doubt that he would approve of your attitude.

  • @phaedruslives i didnt mean any harm, i just thought it was very happy music, i like it, larry is the man, sorry it offended u

  • woot!

  • this is "Peg", isn't it ? Interesting, and great soloing, but that drumming is wearing

  • @musicman3527 There is much more in it.Listen!!!!!

  • guys what year is this

  • I will not dare say best, that has been hashed and rehashed and means nothing, to many bests. He is right up there at the very top when it comes to taste though. Mr.335. Mr. Carlton Still playing through Boogies back then, not a Dumble in sight. Its in the hands.

  • I will not dare say best, that has been hashed and rehashed and means nothing, to many bests. He is right up there at the very top when it comes to taste though. Mr.335. Mr. Carlton

  • happy music, they should get a gig at the ramada, or disney world

  • Geovanni van Broncharst (the footballer) on keyboards??

  • @Abidee LOL!! right

  • Man, Larry just starts blowing over those changes and there ain't no stopping him.

You can tell he's not playing a ore-rehearsed solo -- and it has such emotion.

I don't like to compare, but I'm sorry -- he's way better than Lee.

  • Dear heavens...ES335, Rhodes piano, and a B3 on the side. All with Larry Carlton at the helm. It's almost too much to handle. It was so much better before computers entered the music business...what a great time!

  • Who is the BASSIST?

  • Love the sound of Fender Rhodes!

  • The echo makes it a little hard to listen to. Too bad, a classic song by an iconic player.

  • How did I just find this guy now? I must have been in a cave all my life.

  • IF YOU CHECK OUT EARLY STEELY DAN ALBUMS HE WAS PLAYING ON THEM . HE PLAYS GREAT STUFF !!!

  • you can keep your eric claptons/ jimmy pages etc with their glamourised drug addled pasts - larry circa 1970s was where it was at.

  • @trigmachine Lol

  • @trigmachine ....thats funny mate, trousers are dodgy, so's the hair

  • He has hair, but shit hair.....even in a decade of shit hair!

    Great guitarist though :o)

  • @Monkeyslash A genious is allowed to wear such hair.

  • @xylfox - That is the Nigel Tufnel signature haircut.

  • @IRastaman420 -Larry and the band remind me of the cover shots from old guitar player and keyboard magazines of the period.

  • @IRastaman420

I love Larry, but you hit the nail on the proverbial (and literal) head! I about fell over laughing at that!

  • Who's in this band?

  • What's up with the horrible slapback echo on the entire band? The drums especially sound screwed up. Shame to ruin great playing with this terrible sounding recording.

  • 335 thumbs up!!

  • Brilliant footage of a friend indeed.

    Cheers.

  • How is the name of the bassist? !!!

  • that bass player is too cool for words:-)

  • @TheKindMind Robert 'Pops' Popwell

  • Awesome ! Simply awesome. Had the original Larry Carlton album on vinyl backi in the day but could never find it on CD. This guy is up there with the greatest players in history, his tone phrasing and musicianship beyond question.

When i first heard Room 335 i was blown away, still am after all these years.

I haven't read all these comments but it seems one person doesn't rate him !?

must have tin ears is all i can say ! Up there alongside DiMeola, Mclaughlin, Hendrix.

  • Now tha is what I call jammin, they are so great they make each other drive that much more! and this is what magic is made of! GREAT!

  • Can you believe that LC is playing with DAVID BENOIT!!!!!!!

  • Great playing.

  • 5:20 and on LC takes everyone to school

  • he looks like Ben Stiller

  • You got to be kidding me right? Larry is one of the best guitarists I have ever heard, aside of Pat Metheny, and I would put him right up there with him if not above him. You people need to listen to the genius that this man is, and pat respects to the man. He is simply brilliant!!

  • HE GOT HAIR IN THAT TIME , Old Times *sniff*

  • Sounds a lot like a generic Steely Dan's Peg. I know he has played on their records. I wonder which song came first..

  • What is bassist's name?
