  • It is truly sad to watch old school news like this. I grew up in the late 70's and 80's, and it all seemed so much more genuine back then. It wasn't sensationalized, and it was about CONTENT not IMAGE. Look at CNN now (and all the other cable news stations) compared to this... Bernard Shaw reads from papers, and with such authority. Now it's some blond with pancake make up and a plunging neck line (or man with pancake make up). I worry sometimes.

  • I envy all these professional reporters. Perfect TV voice. Way better than todays silicon loud mouths.

  • I miss great reporters like Daniel Schorre...

  • I miss great reporters like Daniel Shore...

  • Ah... a time when news felt genuine with people running around with papers and not caring aobut some shiny facade

  • Only Dan Rather could be so convincing when reporting incorrect news. A sign of a true professional talking head.

  • @headcase01 Ironically, Rather was fired from CBS for reporting the truth about George Bush

  • @luridplanet Oh, the incident of the fake/falsified documents that Rather used to supposedly proved Bush guilty of something? I forget the details because THAT story mysteriously disappeared into the ether. Nevermind that the 'proof' was bogus, just that the false charge was remembered. Until it was forgotten.

    What were we talking about?

  • Boy, even 30 years ago Rather was getting his facts wrong!!LOL!

  • it's funny that reports were saying that reagan went to hospital to visit brady when brady was still on the pavement while reagan was either in route or already at hospital...or at least that's how it appears from the timeline of these reports. i was 9 when this happened but it's like i watched all this footage yesterday. same feeling with lennon coverage 4 months earlier

  • 4:24 Judy saw "other shots" from above.

  • who gave hinkley the info on which exit reagan was going to use.

  • @irishgeal1 there was a barrage of press awaiting his exit from the hotel, it was pretty clear which exit was to be used

  • @stevemesaros who give the press the info, surely that puts the president in danger if his exit details are knowen, which it did.

  • This was when CNN had high ratings, and no one really cared for biased, uninformative conservative opinionated programming hosted by offensive news analysists that claims that NPR is liberal just because they don't like them.

  • @joeyissoweird CNN was in its infancy at that point. Also, as this was a incident that looked like a potential tragedy in the making would have prevented any biases from either side from coming through.

  • RIP Edwin Newman. You were a true professional newsman.

  • In This Video Clip, Contains Coverage Of The Shooting Of U.S. President Ronald Reagan, From CNN, CBS News, And NBC News, On March 30, 1981.

  • Great job, Bernie! He lets the viewers feel what's happening around him. That he's not alone and he's part of a team.

  • Dan Rather DID start the urban myth that children in a Dallas school applauded when they heard of Kennedy's death. F&c! Dan Rather.

  • The great Bernard Shaw!

  • You know I think Mr. Parr saw Hinkley's arm fly up at around 2:27-2:28.

  • Dan Rather DOES have a little experience with confirming bad news..I think he was the "correspondent" (sounds strange to even briefly revert back to that title) that confirmed JFK had died..and relayed it to Walter C.
