  • i see what ya mean

  • @006543121 :D

  • Ok all I'm saying is when I go camping I go for fun I trap in the snow and camp hunt and fish I don't want to take 3hours to light a fire it's the 2012 it's called a lighter your just light your fire bundle and boom fire

  • @006543121 i go out for fun, too... we just have different ideas about fun.

however, there's nothing wrong with the lighter, sometimes i carry one myself. i just think there's no "magic" in lighting fire with a lighter.

  • That kettle sure looks good! I just ordered one that looks the exact same, I sure hope it works just as good :) lol. Also ordered myself a fold-a-cup! Mugs sure do take up a lot of space in my small pack!

  • @xXMATTanator99Xx i keep my folded cup inside the teapot, along with the tea pouch.

  • Very interesting video. Difficult to film, but interesting :)

  • @djarser it was my first vid, so no wonder it was so difficult to film ;) !

  • I've got an older version of that backpack I think, but yours seems to be designed better. It's a little hard for me to get to any of the pockets when the chair is opened, but yours seems to have that problem fixed.

  • @bennpapa indeed, i have no problem accessing the pockets.

  • Very interesting!

    Thanks for this video.

  • @NeaFrea thank you for watching and commenting!

  • Could you go into more detail on your fire starting method and get a closer view?

  • @CampingwithTEEB i plan to do a fire/fire kit vid soon, so keep an eye on my channel!

  • Wow, Thank you soo much. Today I created my first fire using flint and steel, then used frayed twine as tinder! thank you so much.

  • @MrBettsBoy glad you find it usefull! it's a great way to start a fire.

  • how much and where can i find a saw like that???thanks once again for the very informitive videos...

  • @unicron24 i got mine from the supermarket for 15-20 EUR. it is a fiskars product, but gerber makes the same one. try at your local supermarket (garden department) or on-line.

  • sweet, i love this video...thanks for the post...

  • A little advice to you buddy pleas do not use olive oil for hot cooking because it became very bad for your body it has to be use in cold kitchen and only in cold form...It is processed, pressed cold. The contents and acids which are very healthy are spoiling with high temperatures and turned into very very bad or unhealthy products so actually you are poisoning your self...A lot of people think that it is the best for cooking but it is not... nice video Take care

  • @zajobunny i use olive oil because it tastes good... :)

i'm aware of what happens when one heats the oil (any oil, actually!) and i think that this is only a minor problem compared to those caused by the food itself (which is full of all kinds of "bad" compounds), so i choose not to worry about this.

however, your advice is a good one, and we should avoid fried food.

  • Thank you! :0)))

  • Hi, I would like to know if you can use this arrangement to sleep out there at night, in this cold weather? Are there other ways to arrange tarps to have a warmer shelter, while still using the fire for heat? I am thinking I might be too cold in this arrangement.

  • @AFINAGIRL good question! i could use this setup to sleep in it, but i would need a fire proportional to the cold - therefore the small fire that is enough for the day is insufficient for the cold night, so i would need a lot (and i mean A LOT!) of fire wood. also, this arrangement is not so good in windy conditions.

so, for am overnight, i usually use the setup that you can see in my other vids (the one with the poncho shelter and the one with the daypack content) with a fire in front of it.

  • I really appreciate the setting of your camp. It is real, and allows a person to see that building a fire is more challenging when things are cold and wet. I think that some of the videos that are produced make it look like the easiest thing in the world to do and some may get the wrong idea. Your video shows the reality of lighting a fire in less than ideal conditions. By the way your meal is making me hungry and I'm just watching. Thanks for posting.

  • @MrItchyElbow i try to show it as it is - indeed, there are a lot of misguiding vids out there.

there are situations when making a fire is a real challenge, but usually you can overcome the adversities (with a lot of practice, proper preparation, calm and common sense). sometimes it takes a lot of time and energy to succeed - this is natural and it shouldn't be stopping us to enjoy the outdoors, as it is part of the fun.

  • nice video, i´f got the small version of the fiskars saw, but i like the bahco laplander better, because on my fiskars the lock fails when using it for wood larger than 5-6cm in diameter.

  • @dereinzigwahreaff there's something wrong with your saw - mine's lock never failed! however, the laplander is supposed to be an excellent saw, so you are covered...

  • haha ce tare, chiar ma asteptam sa sune un telefon pe acolo, se intampla tot timpul cand nu trebuie xD

  • @snuffying intotdeauna in cel mai prost moment!

  • nice meal friend! greetings from Chile

  • @velascouc glad you like it!

  • That looked like pretty good eating!

  • @MyNameAintEarl270 ... and it tasted like it looked! :)

  • Really nice camp you set up! I enjoy your videos very much. We are half way around the world from each other, but still very much alike! I wish the world was as peaceful as this video. That food sure looks good.

  • @lazydogdied thank you! indeed, bushcraft is the same (in principle) all over the world.

  • you do a good job

  • @prankmakers95 thank you! i try... :)

  • Ha ha. Phone going off is classic! That's why we get out, eh? Loved the video...find myself hungry know. Keep up the good vids:)

  • @sonofursus lol, that's the "modern" life... and we all "love" it!

if you liked this, you will love what i'm going to post tomorrow... :)

  • Great video! You eat better out in the woods than I do at home :) Keep up the good work.

  • @sniperbait1 glad you like it!

  • Those dad-gum phones!... They demand almost all of our time; even when we're out in the woods! I long for a more simpler time, when all the phones were at the end of a wire! :-) Back in the day, you would never hear "Where are you now?", because they knew EXACTLY where you were... at the end of the wire connected to your house! The only good thing about them is the camera built inside.

Man, what a feast! You have better food in your backpack than I have in my home!

    Thanks for the videos!

  • @RonRay about the phones... i totally agree!

  • Great video. I'm holding my breath watching you get the fire going lol. Thanks and looking forward to more. Nice woods by the way.

  • @Detsteve thank you for the comment... more vids on the way!

  • Great video on fire starting. And the menu made me hungry! Very nicely done.

  • @Urbanwild1 glad you like it... :)

  • Impressive!

  • @PreacherPrepper thank you!

  • I love in when a video is shot out there in the wild in real situations. Very good job my friend.

  • @Reallybigmonkey1 thank you, my friend!

  • Good job on the primitive fire lighting technique! Tough wet conditions, especially in a hardwood area. Good tenacity on staying with it and cooking dinner. Like that pack with the integrated chair. What is the pack make?

  • @Wintertrekker thank you!

that is the pack that i usually use for fishing - i got it from a fishing gear shop. it is a "ron thompson".

  • yum!

  • Great job. If you open a trail side restaurant let me know. That food looks pretty tasty. You also did a great job at starting the fire. Keep up the good work!!!

  • @PatriotPrepper i'm glad you liked it! thank you!

  • well done. interesting tecnique for lighting the fire.

  • @romeodelta1178 i'm glad you liked the video and i hope you will like the following ones, too.

  • Thanks for the invite. Good to see someone using a real flint & steel instead of a ferocium rod! You did well, but once you have the skill refined, try using plant tinders instead of charred cloth. Charred cloth was not used outside of the home.

    Regards, Le Loup.

  • @historicaltrekking thank you for the suggestion! i intend to make (in the near future) a video on different fire lighting methods - it will be a good occasion to present the use of tinder fungus or/and punkwood.

  • I also have the Fiskars - great saw! Thanks for this good video. Tim

  • @steintanz yes, it's a great piece of gear! very effective and very light.

i am glad you enjoyed this video and i hope you will like the next ones, too

  • good video, I have heard different opinios on maya dust, do you think it is a good source of tinder?

  • @76bts thank you!

this was only the second time i used maya dust, but it worked very well: it is easy to light and burns long enough. however, you should consider that it will be difficult to use in windy conditions (unless you use a windscreen). all in all, it might not be the best tinder in the world, but is a good tinder: works well and is natural (that's a plus for me).

  • With snow sticking to trees like you experienced this day, it becomes very quiet in the forest as all sounds are muffled :-)

Very good video showing how you gather your materials - first finely divided dry stuff. Once this finer material is burning, you can use it to dry out and ignite increasingly larger pieces of wood so that you can burn wood that is damp or wet.

  • @FireSteels right on, my friend! that's the ideea... i used the maya dust instead of very fine wood shavings and i added directly the "regular" wood shavings/chips, then the peeled twigs (the bark contains most of the water), then the unpeeled twigs, then the wrist-thick branches that i like to use for fire during the day (for night time i preffer thicker wood).

    thank you for the comment!

  • things are wet or frozen, or wet and frozen! :)) nice atmosphere...it's a shame your camera froze so many times! good vid, lots of info

  • @aljivan yep... good thing that i had my phone with me, otherwise there would have been no (almost complete) video!
