For this search I used my surf master PI because it could have been deep in the soft dirt and the PI is good for the deep targets...

Keys with computer chips are worth a fortune to replace now because you have to re-program your ignition and get a new key...The price you pay for a newer vehicle! Everyone I've talked to only owns one of these keys for the car or truck...I'm sure its a great security device but don't loose it! I was happy to help her find that key and get her husband out of the dog house!

I think they have made the car less secure BC if you get down to one key you would wisely keep the key in the vehicle and use a door key to acess the interior or spend the $300 for a replacement prior to loss.

You could lock the key in a safe inside the car I mean $1200 is enough to protect as if it were cash.

If you are fearful someone would find your key in your car get a dummy key they will put it in the ignition and try so many times and think the battery is dead or the car is broke.

Its rare I loose anything now lck out? With power locks it is hard to lock your keys in the car if you use the remote you never lock them.

Trucking is another story every trucker learns in their first orientation to get a key and hide it on your truck I locked out 2x on the road first was northern CA I was in shorts when I returned to the truck it began to snow&rain had to bust the window that cost me a safety bonus. The other a trucker had a key I got to work&unlock after an hour and a half.

That scares me we have a toyota Prius and never considered what would happen if we did loose thekeys. It has a really strange key that is like sticking a black box of matches in the hole. The key does not look at all like a key there is a key imbedded in the box that slides out but it only opens the door you can't drive the car. I think I will make a few calls today and ask what would happen if my keys were lost.

If you loose your toyota Prius Keys and have no extra get towed to the dealer the min $50 to program the blank or new key cost min $230 that deosn't include what you have to cover on the labor side. If you want to just get an extra key he said the cost should be the same less the towing but either way you would have to get the new key programmed. Im taking my extra key keeping the extra hidden well inside the car JIC then getting a door key hidden outside. I'll use door key 4 entry WOW!

So right now I am going to have my extra door key s made and I will not have any keys to start the car because If we are on the road and say we are in West Texas and drop the keys down eagle canyon we would have to be towed to the nearest dealer then have to go through the process no telling what that can cost somewhere near $1K. A back up key near $300 that is too steep and too much risk to keep on my person.

Ok for $6 I was able to get door keys made for both cars. My plan is to never let one set ever leave the Prius I will use the door key to open the car then if I need I will take my key out the hiding place to start the car. To make it totally fool proof another key will be secured outside the car with zip ties so it will always be open to me. Same for the XB it will have a key attached to the exterior it doesn't have a special key but you need a plan JIC you are stuck.
