Then it turns out he was testing out his new machine and then him and Brian were on about a show finishing halfway through a sentence and then he finished halfway through a senten

The start of the Family Guy was an old man who adopted a dog, and went to a mall for new things for the dog; it was wacky, and there we see several of the characters introduced including Stewie and Quagmire, and Peter's personality is insane befuddled as dogs can't talk--the dog pound is like the Holocaust to dogs, according to Brian and his first incarnation. Peter is the only real character, all the others are spiritual incarnations designed to make life wacko for Peter who is already insane.
