  • I received another rejection, not philosophy but sociology. May be I should go crazy like him, it would relax me in the end.

  • This is the best Bruno Ganz's subtitled from hell!

  • "Get me an application for WalMart." This shit just got really dark.

  • Thank you, this is hilarious.

  • Genius haha.

  • "Dont worry, he still likes John Rawls." Amazing.

  • The reference to Bertrand Russel was awesome

  • fucking brilliant.

  • baton whirling? classic.

  • this made me laugh until I remembered that this will be me in a few years. :(

  • I say 'rinky dink'. That's probably why I didn't get into grad school. ;) I'll be applying this December. Hopefully I don't end up like Hitler!

  • "Get me an application for Walmart." lol

  • maybe add a second major in political science

  • Haha! Oh man, Hitler, what a fucking loser.

  • where does this clip come from? I've seen it used for other things as well and would like to see the original

  • I have seen this clip used in many, many different contexts regarding many, many different topics and ideas but this is by far the absolute most hilarious version I have ever seen...I don't think I have laughed so long and loud in years...too funny

  • Absolutely brilliant. The commentary about existential vs. analytic philosophy are so on point I can't even begin to give this enough praise. This had me in tears.

  • "Philosophy won't do anything but break your heart ... crush your spirit ... and make you an annoying person to be around at parties."

    Perfect.

  • @astronomer86 Maybe you shouldn't read that philosopher's philosophy. Sounds like you have to spend a lot of time on the cross for your truth

  • @deadshepherd666 I don't read a 'philosopher's' philosophy. I read philosophy of philosophers - with an 's' at the end without an apostrophe. :)

  • @astronomer86 Well you've certainly learned your grammar how educated of you. If the philosophy you read crushes your spirit then you're not reading philosophy

  • @deadshepherd666 Which philosophy would you recommend me to read which does not crush your spirit? Would love to know about such a philosophy. And you might want to come clear on what you really want to say without being ambiguous.

  • @astronomer86 I'm sorry my former comments were so antagonistic, I am just frustrated at how meaningless and misleading most philosophy is. I would suggest that you read Friedrich Nietzsche's Beyond Good and Evil, the Antichrist, and Thus Spake Zarathustra (or any of his works really) and afterwards Heidegger's Being and Time or his Being and Truth lectures (be patient - these are difficult works but you will find real truth in them after multiple readings)

  • @deadshepherd666 It is alright. I have only touched upon Nietzsche's ideas and I do own a copy of Thus Spake Zarathustra and find it interesting but yes, complicated indeed. I believe in dwelling properly into every kind of philosophy before making personal judgment. Currently I am a student of analytic philosophy and would in future study Nietzsche and other continental philosophers as well. I want my mind to spread like a web on as many ideas as it can. That needs patient and is spirit crushing

  • @astronomer86 I understand what you are going through, you are like one of the characters in Zarathustra (It's late in the book I can't remember the exact place). You hold up the truth like the sun yet do not receive its light, like a Prometheus who does not share the light of his own flame, an Atlas who does not realize the burden that he holds is his own creation

  • @deadshepherd666 The film/book The Secret, although not exactly a work of philosophy and not without its errors, is basically an explanation of Nietzsche's will to power. This combined with an understanding of how Christianity corrupts human being's understanding of truth/power will lead one to an understanding that the meaning of life is: to create that which we want, leaving oneself satisfied as both the creator and beholder of one's power/art/truth

  • @deadshepherd666 the physical embodiment of our longing, our highest values/desires manifested physically, which we simultaneously observe and are

  • @deadshepherd666 That is all fascinating but vague. Vague in the sense that you cannot clearly 'know' them or their validity through logical analysis, rather you need to 'realize' those things by entering Nietzsche's perspective and world of thought. As I said, do hope to read him and grasp his ideas in future. There are many truth claimers and I wish to go through as many of them as I can.

  • nice one....its not blocked for me... :)

  • And THAT, dear fellows, is why as much as I love philosophy and will always use it and take classes, amybe even try and teach and write...

I will NEVER try to get into a school on a philosophy major! (Seriously, all that was missing was a Heidegger or Nietzsche reference, considering who was blowing up, there...) ;)

  • jesus, this one really hits home for me... laughing and crying...

  • @kakashi76767 hitler tried art

  • gradcafe! hahaha.. loved that part! and RICE!! rice rejected me tooo!

  • Are you headed to grad school yourself?

  • @redetrigan: In an ironic twist of fate, I am headed to grad school... At Rice University! And no, Rice was not my fallback school (at least not this year). Haw haw.

  • @misplacedsociety Do you identity with Hitler?

  • 3:38 lol so true.

  • Oh man, I can't believe someone actually made this. Kudos :)

  • lolzlolzlolzlolzlolzRawlslolzlolz!!!!!!!

  • This is epic! I literally laughed so hard I started crying.

    @ShoobyBugger - Touché.

  • You ought to have ended with, 'Get me a round of applications for spring semester.'

  • God, I hope I get in somewhere. Haha.

  • Good job. Funniest I've seen, next to his review of Inglourious Basterds (sp?).

  • Come on, not even Hitler would do analytic philosophy.

    Tee hee.

  • I am an applicant this year. Rice was one of my safety schools. My writing sample was about new paths in existentialism. This is the greatest youtube video that has ever been. And I am fucked.

  • Your criticism is noted, but is premised on two dubious assumptions: 1)Characters in a fictional work represent their author- if Hitler says rinky-dink, then I must say that as well. Not necessarily true- no one says rinky-dink. That's why it's funny that Hitler does. 2)The merit of the video must hinge on a "feel for dialogue." Again, not so- at least not with these Hitler videos. Part of what makes them funny are the terrible translations and their content. So please, have a quaalude on me.

  • Word to the third. But I do think that "rinky-dink" is coming back into style. I hear people say it all the time. So you (and Hitler) don't have to worry.

  • Misplacedsociety can be sure that he beat out Mr.Jbutle, at least.

    :)

  • very funny.

    tt prof.

  • This one's not bad, actually, though it's hard to appreciate if one's understanding of German interferes with the subtitles.

  • Oh man, how old is this joke now... I can't believe someone has put out yet another one of those.

  • hilarious!

  • WHy isnt Hitler doing Nietzsche or Heidigger?

  • They are probably a part of his writing sample on "New Pathways In Existentialism." :)

  • and his new modal operator is probably J(x), which is true iff x is jewish

  • @dannydandy

Because Hitler was a statist and an anti-semite and Nietzsche had nothing but vitriol for such people

  • but... he misinterpret him, so at least (in the video)he should be writing his work on Nietzsche, albiet being rejected for obvious reasons

  • @dannydandy Actually, there's no evidence he ever actually read Nietzsche. The Nazis famously developed propagnada readings of him and his anti-semite sister famously presented Hitler with a copy of Zarathustra, etc. but Hitler formed his views quite independently of any misinterpreting of Nietzsche. And for the sake of not propagating the slanderous myth that Nietzsche was in some way a proto-Nazi, I'm glad it's not being presented even in joke form here.

  • @dannydandy Considering what Nietzsche said about antisemitism, it actually does make sense :-)

  • HA! This is why I added a second major! One more year in school is one more round of applications :)

  • hilarious

  • Oh well done (apart from the typos)...

  • FOR REAL! It captures the raw feeling!

  • hahaha. well done!

  • F'n brilliant! The funniest use of this scene from Downfall that I've seen so far...of course, only philosophy students will fully appreciate it. Well done! Pure hilarity.

Stuff like this helps make the wait a little less aggravating. Thanks!
