Being a musician this sums up giging at night in all the clubs night after night weekend after weekend We talk back to the night or am i just having flashbacks WOW!!!!
@anterpants - So did I and this song reminded me of my senior year in 1988 and drinking michelob beer!!! I'm glad this song brought on something so passionate to remind me of drinking!!!!
"" High above the heat of a summer New York street ""
The first line and the overall feel of the song is exactly that...........driving slowly down the avenues of Manhattan on a warm muggy night at 10 pm.
First time I heard this song was when I was 12, the alarm-radio was going off and this song was playing. In the dream of course the song was playing, I was in my room on a sunny day, me and a friend were sorting thru a bunch of papers. The part that stood out in my mind was "He's a preacher and a teacher"
This song is awesome and too soon forgotten by radio.
at 0.19 he reminds me of a young Nasty Nigel Lythgoe for some reason.....he has some nice cheekbones tho! Character in his face..not much of that around today!!
Wow, what a beautiful collage of shots, many of which I never knew existed! What a wonderful presentation of Steve's music. He truly transcends the years and years of performing such intelligent songs.
@BLUESMANRONCHICAGO Yup! :) Both very talented guys. There's musicians from all over the world that can do that though, I've found many on the Net over the past few years. But, they just haven't made it big like Steve and Sting have. :)
@tall32guy think the key to making it is the songwriting ability, no matter how many instruments you play, gotta have good songs to begin with. Steve and Sting have that ability in spades!!!
...thts a good one....lol......yes i agree tht Steve was very underrated.......i dont think Mark Knopfler was as underrated as Steve.......God bless them both......truely legends....
Anyone know of, or have a vid to post the michelob beer commercial with this song. Believe it to be from the latter part of the 80's. 1987ish,
It showed a film editor and a movieola putting a clip together about an attractive girl...
she is running in the film...he stops to take a break.....looks out the window...and the girl from the film...runs out from the doorway across the street and looks up at him...eyes meet.. that sort.
Remember seeing it a few times only, thought it was well done.
good memory on your part. i vividly remember that commerical. the song has a catchy beat and for a beer commerical, it was considered 'cool.' not a sellout commerical. i still think of this song associated with michelob beer.
Go to Michelob Film Editor Commercial and you'll find it. But the version on the commercial has a saxaphone background that's not on this version.I think it is a lot better.
Isnt there like a flyover of NYC in the dark at the very end, I can remember the song, and bits and pieces of the commercial. Long time ago, when commercials werent so bad,
thanx. that's one of my top 50 winwood songs. what's this i hear about steve gonna be on the new chris wood album recently dug up but never released till now? can't find any on utube yet .
A very dark and underrated song. This is the original version, which has that nice fat analogue synth sound. The re-recording has more of a late-80s rock sound. Both are great.
One of my all time favourites! But you have to hear it in CD quality with headphones on to get the "real" feeling. Very catching lyrics. A good example for the classic sound of the Sequential Prophet Synthesizer by the way.
This song is dedicated to my best friend Eric Mc Callum who Sadly died in 1991 from Ardrossan Ayrshire Scotland Eric was a great fan of Steve Winwood and got me hooked I still have thise memories of us listening to this album in ChapelHill Mount from Mick Hendry. You will never be forgoten Mate !!
@minden1990 Sorry to hear that you lost your best friend.

No offense, but I like Stevie's remix version with sax solo - the original sounded like it's played from a Casio keyboard

@BLUESMANRONCHICAGO Paul McCartney
and Les Paul & Mary Ford, but neverthless,
it's really impressive, but I still don't think these
one musican in the studio, makes for better

Most of the time, the collaborative process,
no matter how contentous, usually produces
better and more creative music, assuming
you are dealing with musicans of equal
talent.
