  • i play horns. his saxophone gives me chills. i think of Jimmy Hendrix wanting to go into jazz! the night talks back to me! i weep!

  • great feel song. Thanks for the upload.

  • This is such a great song, even in Cocker's interpretation...

  • Great musician ! Great sound ! Great song !

  • good song.

  • HOOOOOOOOWL !

  • Haha at 1:03 it looks like he's roaring! Haha! I can hear him going "I am Stevie, here me roar!"

But on a more serious note this is a very awesome video and extremely awesome song! I love Steve Winwood!

  • Thank you for uploading this- I love the song, love the pics, and love the feelings that come with it.

  • LOOOOOOVEEEEEE!!!!!

  • i love this song , makes me think about life

  • Being a musician this sums up giging at night in all the clubs night after night weekend after weekend We talk back to the night or am i just having flashbacks WOW!!!!

  • I actually really liked this video, good job!

  • @anterpants - So did I and this song reminded me of my senior year in 1988 and drinking michelob beer!!! I'm glad this song brought on something so passionate to remind me of drinking!!!!

  • A musician's musician's musician.

  • @lightlyone You know.... yeah, you know.

  • This version doesn't have the flow of the original 1987 re-record.

  • "" High above the heat of a summer New York street ""

The first line and the overall feel of the song is exactly that...........driving slowly down the avenues of Manhattan on a warm muggy night at 10 pm.

  • i remember hearing this song with my mom in like 95` or so when i was 3 haha or maybe i was 4 and it was 96` i'm not sure

  • Great Song from the Multi-talented Steve Winwood

  • No offense, but I like Stevie's remix version with sax solo - the original sounded like it's played from a Casio keyboard

  • This version sounds like crap compared to the remix.

  • @danewson I really like this. Where can I find the remix??

  • @vfrmin you can find the remix on his chronicles album, or you can find it on youtube probably.

  • @danewson I will get chronicles today. Thanks for the help!!

  • First time I heard this song was when I was 12, the alarm-radio was going off and this song was playing. In the dream of course the song was playing, I was in my room on a sunny day, me and a friend were sorting thru a bunch of papers. The part that stood out in my mind was "He's a preacher and a teacher"

This song is awesome and too soon forgotten by radio.

  • Steve on his best....swinging, funky, a brilliant melody......MORE FANTASTIC ´80´s music at my channel!!!!

  • MAN STEVE U GOT A GREAT VOICE

  • HOLY COW THE PHOTO OF ROYALTY AT 3:59!

  • Happy Birthday Steve Winwood (May 11)

  • Happy Birthday Steve Winwood (May 11)

  • Happy Birthday Steve Winwood (May 11)

  • such an underated musician.. Love ya Steve!! Great song and fabulous music

  • Talking back to the night is how you make it through.

  • he did the first album ( ARC OF A DIVER) all by himself too, as did Phil Collins (BOTH SIDES) ALBUM ...PLAYED ALL THE INSTRUMENTS

  • @uhudmen "ARC OF A DIVER" his 1st album he did all the instruments also... Phil Collins did the "BOTH SIDES " album the same way......

  • ----->>> Still looking for Waldo? Try the Dragon Hunt at DreamScape January 24-25 for some REAL fun!!! Vzones /dot/ com

  • at 0.19 he reminds me of a young Nasty Nigel Lythgoe for some reason.....he has some nice cheekbones tho! Character in his face..not much of that around today!!

  • talented mucisian and songwriter and singer better than xfactor shit songs

  • See timeframe 1:16

  • But the Night wouldn ' t listen...

  • That's cuz the night is a hard headed bitch

  • Wait a second !!! Which one composed this song Joe Cocker or Stevie ?

  • Steve Winwood did.

  • @coloradream Have to agree. Winwood composed more songs than we know, go back to before Traffic. Amazing talent.

  • @GlupiAlbanci steve winwood ; he even named his LP after this title!

    I have both albums (joe's and steve's)

  • @GlupiAlbanci Have you ever heard good old Joe did compose anything?

  • Thanks for posting. Always loved that song.

  • this song was for a michelob comercial

  • Wow, what a beautiful collage of shots, many of which I never knew existed! What a wonderful presentation of Steve's music. He truly transcends the years and years of performing such intelligent songs.

  • no disrespect to Joe Cocker, but He might as well be joe-blow as far as his version when compared to this.........

  • agree 100%.

    This song is simply Amazing!

  • no disrespect to your no disrespect

but imo cocker's betters by just a hair

    photo finish kinda thing

one of the most impressive songs

(depth of thought) ive ever been fortunate enough to hear - it's a song for grown ups

  • Probably the most under rated musician and never had the acclaim he should have recieved

  • @fimker Those of us who know make up for the rest! Steve is unsurpassed.

  • jo cocker version is available on u tube

  • Thats a good ? where is the music at now its processed crap

  • Great just Great . I'm a veryluky one.I sawTraffic in Rome in the year73.'twas really toomuch

  • this guys amazing.great posting,thanks.

  • Steve Winwood did *all* the instruments on this album! Can you believe it? Pretty talented guy! :)

  • @tall32guy He was not dubbed "England's Boy Genius" for nothing.

  • @tall32guy only musician other than perhaps Sting who could go into a studio and record an entire album by himself!!!!

  • @BLUESMANRONCHICAGO Yup! :) Both very talented guys. There's musicians from all over the world that can do that though, I've found many on the Net over the past few years. But, they just haven't made it big like Steve and Sting have. :)

  • @tall32guy think the key to making it is the songwriting ability, no matter how many instruments you play, gotta have good songs to begin with. Steve and Sting have that ability in spades!!!

  • @BLUESMANRONCHICAGO Paul McCartney

and Les Paul & Mary Ford, but neverthless,

it's really impressive, but I still don't think these

one musican in the studio, makes for better

    music.

Most of the time, the collaborative process,

no matter how contentous, usually produces

better and more creative music, assuming

you are dealing with musicans of equal

    talent.

  • @tall32guy Yes he is pretty talented, Steve Winwood

  • Joe cocker's cover is so Great and Emotional...

  • can't find it anywhere on youtube :-(

  • It has been removed, very unfortunately...

  • what an amazing carreer. inspiration

  • Where's the music like this 2day?!!!

  • Great example of jazz/rock fusion.

  • That was cool of you to post the lyrics as well!! Very nice!

  • This video and song are great! Amazing job!!!

  • one of the best of steve

  • Great pics!!!!!

  • I like this better than "Valerie."

  • Never have enough

  • Finally found this. I love this song, and yes Steve Winwood is a great talent and very underated. But I luv em!

  • This guy has talent, most underated in the biz.

  • Absolutely true, very under-rated. About as under rated as Mark Knofler of Dire Straits on the guitar.

  • Great ! But Joe Cocker´s version is somewhat more ...intense .

  • Maybe but who was the 1st one to sing it ?

  • ...thts a good one....lol......yes i agree tht Steve was very underrated.......i dont think Mark Knopfler was as underrated as Steve.......God bless them both......truely legends....

  • you're perfectly right legends both ... lol

  • Anyone know of, or have a vid to post the michelob beer commercial with this song. Believe it to be from the latter part of the 80's. 1987ish,

It showed a film editor and a movieola putting a clip together about an attractive girl...

she is running in the film...he stops to take a break.....looks out the window...and the girl from the film...runs out from the doorway across the street and looks up at him...eyes meet.. that sort.

Remember seeing it a few times only, thought it was well done.

  • good memory on your part. i vividly remember that commerical. the song has a catchy beat and for a beer commerical, it was considered 'cool.' not a sellout commerical. i still think of this song associated with michelob beer.

  • Go to Michelob Film Editor Commercial and you'll find it. But the version on the commercial has a saxaphone background that's not on this version.I think it is a lot better.

  • WOW THANKS A LOT!! I haven't seen that in over 20 years.

  • You're welcome.

  • Isnt there like a flyover of NYC in the dark at the very end, I can remember the song, and bits and pieces of the commercial. Long time ago, when commercials werent so bad,

  • I found out this song five years ago and I think is amazing. The photo with Jeff Lynne and with The Move incredible. Thanks a lot!!

  • I heard this song in ihop and i just had to hear it again!

  • thanx. that's one of my top 50 winwood songs. what's this i hear about steve gonna be on the new chris wood album recently dug up but never released till now? can't find any on utube yet .

  • Exelente presentacion para esta hermosa cancion, de uno de los mejores musicos de Rock,Jazz, buscando siempre innovar, investigar

    nuevos sonidos,latin sound,african sound...

Tambien acompaño al gran Carlos Santana!

  • great song, great pictures!

  • A very dark and underrated song. This is the original version, which has that nice fat analogue synth sound. The re-recording has more of a late-80s rock sound. Both are great.

  • One of my all time favourites! But you have to hear it in CD quality with headphones on to get the "real" feeling. Very catching lyrics. A good example for the classic sound of the Sequential Prophet Synthesizer by the way.

  • Well, this is cool but I like the other one better....

  • Proud.

  • This song is dedicated to my best friend Eric Mc Callum who Sadly died in 1991 from Ardrossan Ayrshire Scotland Eric was a great fan of Steve Winwood and got me hooked I still have thise memories of us listening to this album in ChapelHill Mount from Mick Hendry. You will never be forgoten Mate !!

  • @minden1990 Sorry to hear that you lost your best friend.

He had great taste! This music is so sweet and soulful, with just a hint of melancholy--great to let the mind wander, down the narrow alleyways of the memory.

Thnx for posting this outstanding song.

  • @minden1990 steve dedicated the song to him?

  • Most excellent lyrics. The images in your clip were very nice to watch also. i've always been a fan of Winwood. ~smiles~ Thanks for posting this. With a smile from ~magik.

  • well done / anthology of STEVE , TANKS

  • nice tribute, thanx .

  • One of my all time favorites! Thanks for posting. Amazing song.
