Craig Venter has proven that intelligent beings *can* create life, not that an intelligent being *did* create life. Further, Venter's process is chemical, and the chemicals already existed. He didn't use magic or prayer.
@bhartman36 Craig Venter did not use natural processes to create life from non-life, amino acids organizing themselves into living Cells would violate the second law of thermodynamics.
In the natural world, over time things brake down, they do not get better, ie Entropy.
Entropy: The degradation of the matter and energy in the universe to an ultimate state of inert uniformity.
A process of degradation or running down or a trend to disorder.
Venter used chemistry to do it. Chemistry is a natural process.
Entropy is about energy, not about order. That's the mistake you're making. The second law of thermodynamics prevents you from getting more energy out of a machine than you put into it, but it doesn't mean everything falls apart. It just means energy is needed for reactions to happen. Venter and his team didn't put a bunch of chemicals in a vial and magically form life. He had enzymes and an energy source.
I *did* look up entropy before I answered. I also looked up the second law of thermodynamics. This page explains the error you're making.
2ndlaw.oxy.edu/evolution.html
Again, entropy is about energy, not about things falling apart. If things fell apart in nature, water molecules would never form. Hell, *hydrogen* would never form.
Im a Bio-geneticist and can tell you Darwinian (macro) evolution has never been proven or even shown experimentally, in fact the evidence in the lab actually shows it can not occur.
@goshawker07 Micro evolution has been proven however, and macro evolution is just micro evolution over a long period of time. I in no way believe you are a Bio-Geneticist.
These folks simply took what is already in place by nature, stuided it, understood how it works, and replicated what nature has done for thousands of years... Still pretty amazing though. I don't think is "new" life, just synthetic.
@respectmyhate. This is so tiring. Evolution does not take millions of years. Evolution happens all the time. Evolution can be produced and reproduced by scientific experiment and has been proven over and over again in the lab and has been proven on a macro time scale by the study of fossiles . As a matter of fact if you would take the time to do it you could prove it to yourself. I suggest you GO TO SCHOOL instead of bible study and learn how life really works.
venter failed to create life. i recommend you read 13 things that don't make sense by michael brooks. venter just made a cell in a new way. brooks exposes the venter fraud.
@RespectMyHate mate i understand how you believe in god. so do i, im a catholic/cathar/christian. But its irrational to say that God is the only being who can create life. The guy in the video a few scrolls up has done just that. And craig can create life from scratch, he just needed a starting point to refine his processes.
and also, if your so religious then why is your name respect my hate? be more fitting if it was clean my soul or fuck scientists of something.
@Neoli2300 He didn't create life from scratch, he took his DNA and inserted it into a live bacteria. Yes my name is respectmyhate becuase I hate the theory of evolution. Its completely ok to hate evil. as for the catholics I don't believe in what they teach, they keep sunday hold and the rcc also changed Gods holy laws, the rcc is also responsible for the deaths of about 60 million innocent people. some organization.
Its so Obvious God is real, These scientist will sit there and tell you that dead materials came together, by pure chance and created LIFE. If man can't create life from scratch what makes you think it happened all by itself? Its logically impossible, mathematically impossible, Its everything impossible. (PERIOD). It can't happen. LIFE crys out that yes there is a created of all life as we know it. But you will ask who created God?
GOD is so awesome he had no creator HE JUST IS, PURE AWESOME.
@oddjobmj I was just typing my response ( I'm not going to lie).
"2) If man can't create life from scratch what makes you think god can? After all, we were formed in gods image."
Can a man make a planet or a real universe, our power is limited, Life is a gift which only God can give, thats just the way it is. Yes we are made in Gods image but we are limited in so many ways.
"Wrong... Evolution is always occurring in small steps" What are these small steps?
@RespectMyHate "thats just the way it is." This isn't proof of anything. Give me your definition of life and we'll go from there.
As far as small steps go they start with any advantage that a life form has over the rest of its species. e.g. A shark with stronger teeth which may result in the ability for it to live longer and thereby produce more offspring of which carry their father's genes. Rinse and repeat and species change with time. Just start the process with a microbe.
@RespectMyHate Then you have a horrible understanding of Evolution. Besides your arms would go into muscle failure but I catch your misunderstood drift. Since you made that guess, show how would humans develop wings and where would they get those genes.
This is against Islamic teaching therefore we the Muslims from America against the idea of playing GOD!-this people should have consulted Muslims before making this sort of stupid experiment!
@RespectMyHate >it's funny that you have to see him do it, yet you, who has never seen your god claims that he(or she or it) is the creator of all life....
@djjohanf I don't have to see God I just see what he has made. Just like a car you don't have to see the car manufacturer to know that yes a mind is behind the car. Somebody sat down and planned everything out. Well I'll tell you there is a mind behind the universe. If you think your brain is th product of chance and random mutations I really don't think your being logical.
@RespectMyHate So let me get this straight, you'd rather believe something that cannot be checked, that cannot be seen, that is only in existence because humans made it up as opposed to a reproducable experiment.
You know what , you deserve you belief. just go to Why Won't God Heal Amputees dot com and educate yourself.......or stay dumb.
@djjohanf Evolution can't be checked because it takes millions of years to happen, and you still believe it. I believe in God because I see what he has made I don't need to see him. One day he is coming back to get his children all who believe in him. Its so obvious that God and satan are both real and we are living in a great drama. What experiments have been reproduce when It comes to evolution? This planet is a giant experiment where satan is demonstrating his law, its that simple.
@RespectMyHate Evolution can't be checked? Just research the applications that utilize Evolution and observed speciation, that's if you research any thing outside of answersingenesis. Saying things are real doens't make them real, you people hold society back, sad enough people like you are our politicians.
Thats not artificial life, He's just manipulating pre existing life. This is how you make life from scratch, get all the raw elements needed to create life, then put those elements in there raw form together to create life. build life brick by brick. not taking your manipulated DNA and injecting it into a bacteria, this isn't creating life, its just manipulating life.
people say im not gonna use or ingest that but get cancer or aids and they tell you you live if you take our drug or you will be a healthy slim you if you eat our meat that is way better tasting to come on guys and gals wise up what scares me is dr venter is now the most powerful man on earth and power corrupts my best guess for the future you better be ridiculously rich because these things wont come cheap
@pekoe67 I'm not sure about the vaccines. I would not be in line for that, but I'd be the first to check out other stuff that doesn't have to go into my body.
Venter's company has received approx. 600 million from Exxon; 100 million from BP.
The Deepwater Horizon Gulf of Mexico disaster seems a conveniently timed situation to publicly demonstrate a self-replicating synthetic life form that - let's say- consumes oil and secretes- (I don't know, any suggestions ?)
This guy is literally hacking life. That is just awesome and deserves major recognition. A true pioneer.
To the people arguing about their God, go argue on your own channels and videos. Better yet, make your own amazing thing so wee can talk about it (if god lets you). Can't you for once put your own insecurities and elitism aside and appreciate the absolutely amazing concept this video just showed you?
To my fellow science and truth seeking geeks, you know you can't reason with faith mongers.
magical abilities? what magical abilities? the whole point of science is to gather a body of reliable, testable knowledge which can be applied with confidence, by using a set of rigorous tests/steps which produce tangible data. where's the magic? the whole point is to EXCLUDE thing's like magic; science is not the system that deals in magic or the supernatural.
While Evolutionists would never call it magic that is how they use natural selection in practice. I have had numerous discussions with Evolutionists and whenever you question Evolution’s ability to do anything, they wave natural selection like magic wand that magically, solves it, even if the problem is based on well established laws of science.
With regards to your question about what process started God. Terms such as started imply time. God exists out side of space-time so such a question has no meaning. Put more simply God is eternal.
@chuckpcr god exists outside of space-time.. so there is no time where god is? that's really hard to wrap ones head around. to me, that's like saying god doesnt exist. if there is no time.. then how does one moment change to another? are you saying god exists outside of logic too? explain this. it makes absolutely no sense.
Time as we know it is a property of our universe. It is actually a dimension of space time. If you step out side our universe you step out side of both space and time. It is hard for us to imagine an existence outside our space time because this is only reality we know. It is just as hard to rap our minds around more than 3 dimensions but physics suggests that as many as 12 may exists. Existence out side our space time is logical even if hard to grasp.
Actually, what I gave you was the short answer. The long one involves Statistical Thermodynamics and is hard to explain in this type of forum. It removes the God of the gap bit by showing that it is impossible for mindless natural processes to get life going.
Actually creation scientists have been claiming that intelligence is needed. While this is not the creation of life, it does show that intelligence can encode a working genome.
@chuckpcr Here's your argument: biology and natural selection have gaps. That is obvious proof of God existing, so God created the world and life.
Here's my new theory: biology and natural selection have gaps. That is obvious proof of The Flying Spaghetti Monster existing, so Flying Spaghetti Monster created the world and life.
Lesson: disproving natural selection does not prove God's existence or creation science/
Wrong my argument is not just saying that there are gaps but that mindless natural processes can not create life and that intelligence is needed. Nor am I saying that it is obvious proof of the existence of God. Showing that God was the creating intelligence involves more this.
@chuckpcr Intelligence is needed. OK, so if I write a book like the Bible or the Koran and make up some stuff about the FSM (you're not telling me you consider Genesis to be literally true, right) then its ok to insist that it is real? There is no historical basis in religion, and culture and religion have nothing to do with science. Science is made up of fact and proof, and just disproving one theory is not substantially proving another.
FSM is a flawed analogy because it lacks background. A better analogy would be aliens, because it has cultural background. By the way as long as aliens or FSM are part of our universe, some intelligence would still have had to create them and no matter far you take that back, you eventually need some one from out side the universe and who is eternal. Such a being would by definition be God.
By the way I do see Genesis as literal history and I have some science to back it up.
@chuckpcr All analogies are imperfect, anyhoo. And you have evidence about genesis? Please give or send me some. Because you'd be the first non atheist to have anything to back up their religious beliefs. And since you haven't apparently set foot in a biology classroom, it is possible, not probable, to have life come from no life. Not probable, as we're the only known planet to have done so, apparently. If you want evidence about that, look in any bio textbook.
The evidence for Genesis is beyond the scope of this type of discussion. I am doing a series of scientific videos that I am placing on youtube. Currently I doing basic physics but I will be doing videos on scientific evidence for Genesis has the topics come up. If you are really interested subscribe to my channel or book mark it so you can check it periodically.
I have had classes in biology and I have kept up with developments in it. I am well aware of the hypothetical models for getting life from non living chemicals that make it look possible, but there no real evidence them. I am well aware of the alleged evidence but it is far from actual life from non life. Altimetry the only reason for accepting abiogenesis is that the only alternative is not allowed to even be considered.
@chuckpcr Notice, all, that he didn't offer a shred of evidence for the existence of a god, even though I explicitly asked him to. You're nobody special, just another faith believer. There's plenty of evidence that groups of proteins can combine together to digest organized chemicals, and though it seems a bit sketchy, it's nowhere near as shaky as proof of a deity just by saying something else can't happen.
You do realize that these posts are limited to 500 characters. That is not enough space. Add to that the fact you can not post links or pictures. It means that this forum is not equipped to allow presentation of the evidence you asked for in any meaning full way.
Also notice all: that I did state that I will be presenting it some of the videos, I am making for youtube, which is a far better place for presentations of this type. My earlier invitation remains open.
Your Flying Spaghetti Monster analogy is flawed. The existence of God has a bases is history, religion and culture. On the other hand your Flying Spaghetti Monster is a pure contrivance intended for ridicule.
Right, disproving natural selection does not prove the existence of God or creation science. Actually, Creation scientists do not have a problem with natural selection; we just don’t attribute to it the magical abilities evolutionists do. We see it more as form of quality control. Natural selection is not equivalent to Evolution. It predates Darwin’s theory; he merely adapted it as part of his theory.
"We should immediately start manufacturing those synthetic cells that would make Mars and our entire planetary neighborhood hospitable. This is a crucial step to forward life, especially to overcome our actual precarious condition of 'having all the eggs in the same basket', planet Earth...any global catastrophe can wipe us away and make all our advancements useless. We need to overcome the modern flat earth conception and urgently conquer space." G.Antuan
It's important that religious people are reminded that their texts contain NO injunction on creating life. It's permissible by all the major religions. That was the conclusion of the religious representatives on the ethics committee that spent over a year looking at the Venter labs proposals.
There's huge potential for the technology to be delayed and restricted and suppressed by the more reactionary religious lobbies if their off-the-cuff assumptions go unchallenged.
I agree. There is nothing in the Bible forbidding man from modifying life or creating it from scratch. In fact, morally this no different selective breeding.
If they could design something really useful within the next 2-3 years, what would be top of your wish-list for a type of cell for Venter labs to produce in bulk?
Dontcha just love how the creationists already have their fallback position prepared for once a wholly synthetic cell is made?
Using their unique definition of "create", it's impossible for humans to create.
ANYTHING.
"It's not really creating life because you didn't create the atoms that make up the raw materials."
Rest assured, if anyone ever bothered to "create the atoms" (Why?!) creationists would say "It doesn't count because you didn't create the energy that created the atoms".
I was simply showing the inaccuracy of a statement comparing this God creating everything. Taking it beyond that is taking it out of context. What this synthetic genome proves is that intelligence is capable of encoding a genome and if some one ever actually makes a living cell from scratch then it would show that intelligence can create life.
Not a straw-man argument, just a little lack of trust. Maybe I should apologise for that.
So when Venter labs constructs a cell from uhm...the lipids and whatevers that cells are made of, probably in the next couple of years, you'll allow that humans can create life. That's progress.
(Unless you have some special definition of the word "scratch" , lol!)
@dunnonuffink Apology accepted. Though, I think your being way overly optimistic on the time frame of some one constructing a cell. By if some does it, I would have no problem saying that humans created life. Such an event actually fits well with the idea of an intelligent God creating us.
Lets stop talking about god for ONE second.. There's more than one way to make fire boys and girls.. This is awesome, I wish I could meet him I have a bunch of "meaningful" questions id like to ask him.
Purely selfishly, I'd like cures for Alzheimer's HIV & MS kinda soon,
And I would LOVE to have a little tank of stuff on my sunny balcony full of some wee beastie that makes fuel out of sunlight and CO2 to charge a battery for my bicycle so I can zoom uphill with the groceries and the wind in my hair (and live off-grid). Tho' being as I live in Scotland the grey, wed be better with beasties that make fuel out of rainwater.
@dunnonuffink The whole "god debate" is redundant thats all im saying. It has nothing to do with moving forward. I know you see that... plus I don't even know what your talking about.. your taking what I said and put it in a totally unknown inessential rebuttal.
Did I post at the worng person? Honestly, I didn't intend to rebut YOU, I was apologising for yakking on in a god debate, and just telling you what advances I'm hoping that synthetic cell culture will be able to bring - cures for illnesses that seem to have a genetic &/or cellular glitch, and all the rest.
I really didn't mean to offend you, I thought I was getting back on topic.
Can I patent protect my sperm? I created It! ..and then, all who produce it, after me will have to give me some money. I need money. I understand that Church, and Pope say NO to this nonsence (they need all the money they can get for Vatikan bank). But what if this Idea is not nonsence? What if I patent protect, initial spark of something that later shows as good working Idea? Hm. 13:19
What this proves is that it is possible for intelligence to create and encode a working genome for an organism. So, this supports the idea that life was intelligently designed.
@chuckpcr What it proves is that life can be made from non life without the need for a god. It proves life comes from chemistry and that's more than all religions have ever proven. No religion has ever proven god even exists much less creates life.
Wrong this is not life from non life but simply the transplanting of DNA, the recipient cell was already alive. The cells machinery was still operational or else it would not have reacted to the new DNA so therefore it was still alive.
As far as proofing God exists is concerned, what type of proof do you want?
The recipient cell doesn't have machinery. It has chemicals and those chemicals though still in place were not capable of continued life once the original DNA was removed.
DNA was not transplanted. Instead new man made DNA was created from scratch and inserted. And a new life form began to live for the first time.
As for proof of God, all I need is proof I haven't already rejected. Got anything new? I warn you I haven't seen anything convincing in 50 years of atheism.
Nature Journal calls it machinery but for the sake of argument Ill give your chemicals. The point is they were still in place and capable of functioning they just lacked the programming from the DNA to tell them what to do. Life still existed because the chemicals were still capable of doing their job. What this boils down to is a disagreement of what constitutes cell death.
@chuckpcr Words are important. If a cell without DNA is life, then there must be other natural examples of cells without DNA doing what life does. Such as metabolism, growth and reproduction.
I agree using transplanting was a word game that you tried to play. You know full well that digging up a tree and inserting a different tree is not an example of transplanting.
Once the DNA is removed a cell won’t live long. This experiment shows they can survive long enough for it to be replaced. It does not mean that a cell can continue to live without a long time DNA. It was dieing but not dead.
Ok using “transplant” was a pore choice of words on my part but the point is that this experiment was a case of exchanging the genome of a living cell with another genome not restoration of a dead cell.
On transplanting DNA , youre playing word games. The point is that this is a living cell that just had its DNA exchanged with a new set. From the cells stand point it dose not seem to care that its synthetic.
On proof for God, you did not answer my question. Your response was the type of vague answer I would expect from some one who has excluded God by assumption. If that is the case then there is no proof that you will accept.
@chuckpcr The type of proof I would require depends on which god you're referring to.
Define your God and why you believe he/she actually exists and I'll respond. Who knows maybe I'll agree that yours exists.
As for assuming god doesn't exists, yes I assume lots of thing don't exists until I see a reason to change my mind. Otherwise I'd have a head full of unicorns and Cheshire cats.
Not surprising the religious freaks show up without fail with their veiled threats of eternal damnation if man proceeds to do what their invisible sky genie supposedly did 6000 years ago. Whether you bible thumping retards like it or not, science will progress, even if it offends Jesus, Mary, The Goat or whatever characters in that magical book of yours has. Science is the reason why the life expectancy isn't 35 anymore or why we don't use leaches as cures.
This is hardly a replication of creation after all, they did not make the cell only the DNA. To truly replicate creation they would have to not only make the DNA, but the cell, the atoms that make up the cell and the space-time in which it lives.
@chuckpcr It may not be exactly the same as DNA being created naturally but it's sure close enough and plus at least if this guy was dressed in a white lab coat with a gray beard would be more believable than one old man floating in the sky using magic powers.
Chuckpcr: "a long way from creating life, it is at most reprogramming a living thing. " The four stages of superstitious denial: (1) (Proposal stage) Impossible! It'll never work! (2) (Work starts) Blasphemy! Man arrogating God's role! Impossible! (3) (Success reported) It's not really alive, just zombie imitation-life! (4) (People use it) Yeah, well, doesn't count. I've heard it all before about: Artificial insemination In-vitro fertilisation Cloning Synthetic DNA
@chuckpcr There it is. That version God is a product of medieval painters. So in other words, God is pretty much a concept of Man and not the other way around. Unless you can show me a accurate picture of this legendary being, then he or she is nothing more than an imaginary friend for adults. As far as being a long way from creating life is concerned, no offense but I'd rather take the word of Venters and his team on how far away we really are over yours.
Take a bacteria cell of one species and kill it. Removing it's ability to live or reproduce.
Create a new DNA molecule to match one you've generated with a computer by using four chemicals and some fancy chemistry. Then Inject that DNA into that dead cell and it lives and reproduces as a New Species of bacteria.
You can dance around that all you like but a New Life Form that never existed before was Created from parts that were not living.
Try this. Turn off your PC, rip the guts out of it, reconfigure the guts and reinsert them into the case, turn it back on and end up with a refrigerator that can make copies of itself.
Feel free to use your Bible and pray all you want. But shut your cake hole until you get that done.
Man is trying to become God. He won't get far because there is room for only one God and He will not share the throne. Man's arrogance is his downfall. With his intellect he has become wise in his own eyes and therefore feels he doesn't need God the creator. Science has become modern man's god. This won't last long. Jesus is on the throne.
@KakkoiGuy1, the level of western deception goes as far as naming "Ha Mashiach" with the greco-roman name of "jesus" which is nothing more than the greek equivalent name for jason (iason in greek.) YAHOSHUA, meaning YHWH is salvation, is the NAME of the Messiah. "jesus" is neither a translation nor a transliteration of the Hebrew Name of the "WORD which became flesh." Nevertheless, Your point concerning GOD vs the arrogance of men is appreciated. Be Blessed, Peace & Shalom,
Look, however much you wanna froth at the mouth, you can't have it both ways.
Either God isn't quite as impressive as you first thought (in which case have a rethink) or these guys aren't creating life (in which case, what's your problem?)
Trust me ol'chap; I've been purged from western arrogance. hammilton smith's award of the Nobel prize for his work on site directed mutagenesis comes from another western organization deciding one's worth and achievement. These charlatans passing for scientists are nothing but thieves with one agenda in mind; kill, steal & destroy. Thank God that YHWH ElL SHADAI is about to reveal the foolishness of these clowns before all creation. Peace & Shalom,
@ednoisin I'm a Christian and I belive that Christ is God incarnate. John 1:1-3,14. I agree that they are doing the will of Satan. He comes to steal, kill, and destroy. Jesus is definitely coming back soon. I do not believe God will allow them to get too far with this stuff. Just like he did with the tower of Babel.
@KakkoiGuy1 Jesus is now officially a second rate miracle. Man has not only resurrected a life form from the dead but even created a new species in the process.
Jesus manages to get himself killed by design (isn't that suicide) and then wakes up as the same boring Jew. Big deal.
@dimbulb23 You don't really mean what you say. If you knew what you were saying, you would seriously be saddened and would wish you could take it back. In mans search for knowledge he is becoming proud and arrogant. Pride is set before the fall. That same Jesus you blasphemed is the same Jesus you will meet in the end. I just pray for you that you have repented and trusted in Him before that happens. He didn't commit suicide. Other people took his life. That's not suicide.
Don't tell me what I mean to say. Talk about arrogant.
Jesus being God after all, came to Earth with a purpose didn't he? To die for our sins didn't he? Being all-powerful was there any chance he'd fail? I think not. Once He made up His mind the Romans had no real choice, either they or someone else was doing to kill Him.
So God/Jesus made up his mind to die and he made it happen. That's suicide.
Hey it's the Christian story not mine. It's all nonsense to me.
@dimbulb23 What I meant by that is if you really understood what you were saying you probably wouldn't speak so boldly. Suicide is when you take your own life. He willingly died for the people but he didn't kill himself. Does that make sense? Just because it sounds like nonsense to you, doesn't mean that it is. You may not understand how E=MC2 but that doesn't make it nonsense. :) Please don't trust in your "knowledge". Your knowledge is not God.
@KakkoiGuy1 He did take his own life. He's God & all-powerful remember? It was his will to die otherwise it could not have happened. He willed it and allowed it to happen. That's suicide. Jumping off a bridge is just an act of will, the water does the killing, is that not suicide? Of course, it is. And just because a good comes of it, such as someone gets insurance, doesn't change that.
Open your own eyes. You've been fed a fairy tale that you've never thought about.
c. venter, h. smith, c. hutchinson are the 3 stooges of "Molecular CLOWNING." 3 typical white men feeding the global deception engineered by the g8-nations & the corporate "monsantos." Be not in awe of their "mycoplasma" containing genetic sequences spelling their website address. YHWH is the creator of all; not these amero-eurocentric-josef mengele-tea party-racist demons. The arrogance of the west has reached its limit inviting its swift destruction; Be Blessed, Peace & Shalom,
Look, either the Almighty isn't as impressive as you first thought (in which case take some time out to rethink things) or - as you say - these people are not god-like creators. You can't have it both ways.
@ednoisin I think you have a bit of that "arrogance of the west" built into you as well. It might be blinding you to the fact that synthesized life could be used to produce a strain of algae that will maximize the output of biodiesel to the point that we could virtually replace all fossil fuels thus making it no longer necessary to go to war all over the world with one another for the purpose of protecting scarce resources. In short, this discovery could be what prevents us from starting WW3.
@seanotube85, according to physicist & professor albert einstein (i.e. god of these so-called scientists,) "today's problems cannot be solved by thinking the way we thought when we created them." The advent of nuclear fission technology as expressed via the atomic bomb did not prevent the Korean, Viet-Nam, Iraq, Afghanistan wars as orchestrated by the head of the g8-nations. Thank God that YHWH EL SHADAI is prevailing. Peace & Shalom,
@ednoisin "according to physicist & professor albert einstein (i.e. god of these so-called scientists,)" -Wrong. These scientists do not believe Albert Einstein was "god" unless by "god" you mean a man who discovered the theory of relativity. Is God jealous of the attention these mere mortals are receiving, or is that just your cranky ego?
"The advent of nuclear fission.."
Technologies will continue to emerge whether or not we like it. The REAL test is what we've learned from the past.
@seanotube85, yes ol' chap, GOD is a "jealous GOD" (Exo 20:5) and these molecular clowns have made themselves "idols." Relativity was not discovered by einstein since 2 Pet 2:8 already stated that "...with YHWH one day is as 1000 yr, and 1000 yr as one day." YAHOSHUA stated that HE was "The True Light" and thus, scientifically, has no frame of reference which no longer constrains HIM to time-space. All forms of idolatry will be brought down. Turn to THE CREATOR ol' chap. Be Blessed & Shalom,
@Downfurlife, I don't know who the god of westernized christianity is, but the ELOHIM of Abraham, Isaac & Yaacob states in Psalms 14:1 that ""The fool has said in his heart,There is no God." These so-called scientists have not created synthetic life by borrowing the "body" of pre-existing mycoplasma in addition to promoter/regulatory sequences from yeast & E. coli. Even "joe the plumber" can do better than that via conjugal hetero-relationship. Peace & Shalom,
@ednoisin LOL - reaching for the bible like a gun. In the eyes of YHVH, I am a fool. I can make a good case using the bible it is your job, not his to kill me because of my foolish acts. Regardless I look forward to the return of christ so he can get on his knees while I pisseth down his throat and spank that bad boy's ass. Until then you keep quoting & sticking up for him as he intentionally chooses not to speak for himself like a childish school girl. You are the bag man I guess?
@Downfurlife, I'm delighted that u're looking fwd to the Meshiah's return. Be assured that HE will not be the one bowing down to you for you to urinate upon HIM. Rom 14:10 states that "we shall all stand before the MESSAHIA's judgment...& every knee shall bow to GOD." Make peace with THE CREATOR YHWH while u may; it is a dreadful thing to fall under HIS Hands. Peace & Shalom,
@ednoisin Oh, he can put his hands all over me, that dreadful zombieman. The thing about omnipotent beings I never understood. Their followers reach for their holy books like the nazi's to their guns. Just as odd the omnipotent beings always command/demand the followers work on their behalf(in their place). Well, like you I wait.

A question to Craig Venter: Did you shout, "It's aliiiive!" and laughed maniacally afterwards?

can someone explain to me .. he makes a chromozone that is added to an already existing cell?
so he didnt make life entirely out of syntehtic things ?
he is still not god

Craig has proven that life requires an intelligent designer, that amino acids alone can never organize themselves a living Cell.
Amino acids alone don't create much of anything, intelligent designers alone do and are solely responsible for everything that has ever been created.
HolyRevelation 8 months ago
@HolyRevelation
Craig Venter has proven that intelligent beings *can* create life, not that an intelligent being *did* create life. Further, Venter's process is chemical, and the chemicals already existed. He didn't use magic or prayer.
bhartman36 8 months ago
@bhartman36 Craig Venter did not use natural processes to create life from non-life, amino acids organizing themselves into living Cells would violate the second law of thermodynamics.
In the natural world, over time things brake down, they do not get better, ie Entropy.
Entropy: The degradation of the matter and energy in the universe to an ultimate state of inert uniformity.
A process of degradation or running down or a trend to disorder.
HolyRevelation 8 months ago
@HolyRevelation
He had enzymes and an energy source.
bhartman36 8 months ago
@bhartman36 You're confusing Over-unity with Entropy, overunity prevents you from getting more energy out of a machine than you put into it.
Entropy is about the degradation of "MATTER" and energy over time, MATTER and energy are running down, they are becoming disordered, NOT ordered.
That's the mistake you're making, go look up entropy and over-unity in the dictionary.
HolyRevelation 8 months ago
@HolyRevelation

Secondly, Craig Venter never created life from scratch. They took existing life and modified it.

"Wrong... Evolution is always occurring in small steps" What are these small steps?
RespectMyHate 1 year ago
@RespectMyHate "thats just the way it is." This isn't proof of anything. Give me your definition of life and we'll go from there.
As far as small steps go they start with any advantage that a life form has over the rest of its species. e.g. A shark with stronger teeth which may result in the ability for it to live longer and thereby produce more offspring of which carry their father's genes. Rinse and repeat and species change with time. Just start the process with a microbe.

magical abilities? what magical abilities? the whole point of science is to gather a body of reliable, testable knowledge which can be applied with confidence, by using a set of rigorous tests/steps which produce tangible data. where's the magic? the whole point is to EXCLUDE thing's like magic; science is not the system that deals in magic or the supernatural.

While Evolutionists would never call it magic that is how they use natural selection in practice. I have had numerous discussions with Evolutionists and whenever you question Evolution’s ability to do anything, they wave natural selection like magic wand that magically, solves it, even if the problem is based on well established laws of science.

ultimategoobah 1 year ago
@ultimategoobah

Here's my new theory: biology and natural selection have gaps. That is obvious proof of The Flying Spaghetti Monster existing, so Flying Spaghetti Monster created the world and life.
Lesson: disproving natural selection does not prove God's existence or creation science/
chairmobile 1 year ago
@chairmobile
Wrong my argument is not just saying that there are gaps but that mindless natural processes can not create life and that intelligence is needed. Nor am I saying that it is obvious proof of the existence of God. Showing that God was the creating intelligence involves more this.
chuckpcr 1 year ago
@chuckpcr Intelligence is needed. OK, so if I write a book like the Bible or the Koran and make up some stuff about the FSM (you're not telling me you consider Genesis to be literally true, right) then its ok to insist that it is real? There is no historical basis in religion, and culture and religion have nothing to do with science. Science is made up of fact and proof, and just disproving one theory is not substantially proving another.
chairmobile 1 year ago
@chairmobile
By the way I do see Genesis as literal history and I have some science to back it up.
chuckpcr 1 year ago
@chuckpcr All analogies are imperfect, anyhoo. And you have evidence about genesis? Please give or send me some. Because you'd be the first non atheist to have anything to back up their religious beliefs. And since you haven't apparently set foot in a biology classroom, it is possible, not probable, to have life come from no life. Not probable, as we're the only known planet to have done so, apparently. If you want evidence about that, look in any bio textbook.
chairmobile 1 year ago
@chairmobile
The evidence for Genesis is beyond the scope of this type of discussion. I am doing a series of scientific videos that I am placing on youtube. Currently I doing basic physics but I will be doing videos on scientific evidence for Genesis has the topics come up. If you are really interested subscribe to my channel or book mark it so you can check it periodically.
chuckpcr 1 year ago
@chairmobile
I have had classes in biology and I have kept up with developments in it. I am well aware of the hypothetical models for getting life from non living chemicals that make it look possible, but there no real evidence them. I am well aware of the alleged evidence but it is far from actual life from non life. Altimetry the only reason for accepting abiogenesis is that the only alternative is not allowed to even be considered.
chuckpcr 1 year ago
@chuckpcr Notice, all, that he didn't offer a shred of evidence for the existence of a god, even though I explicitly asked him to. You're nobody special, just another faith believer. There's plenty of evidence that groups of proteins can combine together to digest organized chemicals, and though it seems a bit sketchy, it's nowhere near as shaky as proof of a deity just by saying something else can't happen.
chairmobile 1 year ago
@chairmobile
My earlier invitation remains open.
chuckpcr 1 year ago

Your Flying Spaghetti Monster analogy is flawed. The existence of God has a bases is history, religion and culture. On the other hand your Flying Spaghetti Monster is a pure contrivance intended for ridicule.
chuckpcr 1 year ago
@chairmobile

I was simply showing the inaccuracy of a statement comparing this God creating everything. Taking it beyond that is taking it out of context. @chuckpcr

This is a straw man argument.
My reference to intelligence is that this experiment shows that intelligence is a viable source of the original information contained in genomes.
Yes, in this case it is human intelligence.
chuckpcr 1 year ago
@chuckpcr
Not a straw-man argument, just a little lack of trust. Maybe I should apologise for that.
So when Venter labs constructs a cell from uhm...the lipids and whatevers that cells are made of, probably in the next couple of years, you'll allow that humans can create life. That's progress.
(Unless you have some special definition of the word "scratch" , lol!)
dunnonuffink 1 year ago
@dunnonuffink Apology accepted. Though, I think your being way overly optimistic on the time frame of some one constructing a cell. By if some does it, I would have no problem saying that humans created life. Such an event actually fits well with the idea of an intelligent God creating us.

What this proves is that it is possible for intelligence to create and encode a working genome for an organism. So, this supports the idea that life was intelligently designed.
chuckpcr 1 year ago
@chuckpcr What it proves is that life can be made from non life without the need for a god. It proves life comes from chemistry and that's more than all religions have ever proven. No religion has ever proven god even exists much less creates life.
dimbulb23 1 year ago
@dimbulb23
Wrong this is not life from non life but simply the transplanting of DNA, the recipient cell was already alive. The cells machinery was still operational or else it would not have reacted to the new DNA so therefore it was still alive.
As far as proofing God exists is concerned, what type of proof do you want?
chuckpcr 1 year ago
@chuckpcr
I warn you I haven't seen anything convincing in 50 years of atheism.
dimbulb23 1 year ago
@dimbulb23
Nature Journal calls it machinery but for the sake of argument Ill give your chemicals. The point is they were still in place and capable of functioning they just lacked the programming from the DNA to tell them what to do. Life still existed because the chemicals were still capable of doing their job. What this boils down to is a disagreement of what constitutes cell death.
chuckpcr 1 year ago

@dimbulb23
If that is the case then there is no proof that you will accept.
chuckpcr 1 year ago

To truly replicate creation they would have to not only make the DNA, but the cell, the atoms that make up the cell and the space-time in which it lives.
chuckpcr 1 year ago
@chuckpcr It may not be exactly the same as DNA being created naturally but it's sure close enough and plus at least if this guy was dressed in a white lab coat with a gray beard would be more believable than one old man floating in the sky using magic powers.

Either God isn't quite as impressive as you first thought (in which case have a rethink) or these guys aren't creating life (in which case, what's your problem?)
dunnonuffink 1 year ago
Trust me ol'chap; I've been purged from western arrogance. hammilton smith's award of the Nobel prize for his work on site directed mutagenesis comes from another western organization deciding one's worth and achievement. These charlatans passing for scientists are nothing but thieves with one agenda in mind; kill, steal & destroy. Thank God that YHWH ElL SHADAI is about to reveal the foolishness of these clowns before all creation. Peace & Shalom,
ednoisin 1 year ago
@ednoisin I'm a Christian and I belive that Christ is God incarnate. John 1:1-3,14. I agree that they are doing the will of Satan. He comes to steal, kill, and destroy. Jesus is definitely coming back soon. I do not believe God will allow them to get too far with this stuff. Just like he did with the tower of Babel.
KakkoiGuy1 1 year ago
@KakkoiGuy1 Jesus is now officially a second rate miracle. Man has not only resurrected a life form from the dead but even created a new species in the process.
Jesus manages to get himself killed by design (isn't that suicide) and then wakes up as the same boring Jew. Big deal.
dimbulb23 1 year ago
@dimbulb23 You don't really mean what you say. If you knew what you were saying, you would seriously be saddened and would wish you could take it back. In mans search for knowledge he is becoming proud and arrogant. Pride is set before the fall. That same Jesus you blasphemed is the same Jesus you will meet in the end. I just pray for you that you have repented and trusted in Him before that happens. He didn't commit suicide. Other people took his life. That's not suicide.
KakkoiGuy1 1 year ago
@KakkoiGuy1
It's all nonsense to me.
dimbulb23 1 year ago
@dimbulb23 What I meant by that is if you really understood what you were saying you probably wouldn't speak so boldly. Suicide is when you take your own life. He willingly died for the people but he didn't kill himself. Does that make sense? Just because it sounds like nonsense to you, doesn't mean that it is. You may not understand how E=MC2 but that doesn't make it nonsense. :) Please don't trust in your "knowledge". Your knowledge is not God.
KakkoiGuy1 1 year ago
@KakkoiGuy1 He did take his own life. He's God & all-powerful remember? It was his will to die otherwise it could not have happened. He willed it and allowed it to happen. That's suicide. Jumping off a bridge is just an act of will, the water does the killing, is that not suicide? Of course, it is. And just because a good comes of it, such as someone gets insurance, doesn't change that.
Open your own eyes. You've been fed a fairy tale that you've never thought about.
Wake up!

c. venter, h. smith, c. hutchinson are the 3 stooges of "Molecular CLOWNING." 3 typical white men feeding the global deception engineered by the g8-nations & the corporate "monsantos." Be not in awe of their "mycoplasma" containing genetic sequences spelling their website address. YHWH is the creator of all; not these amero-eurocentric-josef mengele-tea party-racist demons. The arrogance of the west has reached its limit inviting its swift destruction; Be Blessed, Peace & Shalom,

Oh, calm down.
Look, either the Almighty isn't as impressive as you first thought (in which case take some time out to rethink things) or - as you say - these people are not god-like creators. You can't have it both ways.
dunnonuffink 1 year ago 2
@ednoisin I think you have a bit of that "arrogance of the west" built into you as well. It might be blinding you to the fact that synthesized life could be used to produce a strain of algae that will maximize the output of biodiesel to the point that we could virtually replace all fossil fuels thus making it no longer necessary to go to war all over the world with one another for the purpose of protecting scarce resources. In short, this discovery could be what prevents us from starting WW3.
seanotube85 1 year ago
@seanotube85, according to physicist & professor albert einstein (i.e. god of these so-called scientists,) "today's problems cannot be solved by thinking the way we thought when we created them." The advent of nuclear fission technology as expressed via the atomic bomb did not prevent the Korean, Viet-Nam, Iraq, Afghanistan wars as orchestrated by the head of the g8-nations. Thank God that YHWH EL SHADAI is prevailing. Peace & Shalom,
ednoisin 1 year ago
@ednoisin "according to physicist & professor albert einstein (i.e. god of these so-called scientists,)" -Wrong. These scientists do not believe Albert Einstein was "god" unless by "god" you mean a man who discovered the theory of relativity. Is God jealous of the attention these mere mortals are receiving, or is that just your cranky ego?
"The advent of nuclear fission.."
Technologies will continue to emerge whether or not we like it. The REAL test is what we've learned from the past.
seanotube85 1 year ago

There is a slight chance this dudes research might demonstrate the christian god is not real. His research ought to be crushed right away.
Downfurlife 1 year ago
@Downfurlife, I don't know who the god of westernized christianity is, but the ELOHIM of Abraham, Isaac & Yaacob states in Psalms 14:1 that ""The fool has said in his heart,There is no God." These so-called scientists have not created synthetic life by borrowing the "body" of pre-existing mycoplasma in addition to promoter/regulatory sequences from yeast & E. coli. Even "joe the plumber" can do better than that via conjugal hetero-relationship. Peace & Shalom,
ednoisin 1 year ago
@ednoisin LOL - reaching for the bible like a gun. In the eyes of YHVH, I am a fool. I can make a good case using the bible it is your job, not his to kill me because of my foolish acts. Regardless I look forward to the return of christ so he can get on his knees while I pisseth down his throat and spank that bad boy's ass. Until then you keep quoting & sticking up for him as he intentionally chooses not to speak for himself like a childish school girl. You are the bag man I guess?
Peace

@Downfurlife, I'm delighted that u're looking fwd to the Meshiah's return. Be assured that HE will not be the one bowing down to you for you to urinate upon HIM. Rom 14:10 states that "we shall all stand before the MESSAHIA's judgment...& every knee shall bow to GOD." Make peace with THE CREATOR YHWH while u may; it is a dreadful thing to fall under HIS Hands. Peace & Shalom,
ednoisin 1 year ago
@ednoisin Oh, he can put his hands all over me, that dreadful zombieman. The thing about omnipotent beings I never understood. Their followers reach for their holy books like the nazi's to their guns. Just as odd the omnipotent beings always command/demand the followers work on their behalf(in their place). Well, like you I wait.
