  • COOL ORNITHOLOGY BRO.

  • @AWESOME90002 - thank you very much mate! Nothing much beats a nice walk in the country and some good birds... especially if a pub lunch if it can be factored in too! :-)

  • what has Mercury to do with the Yellowhammer??? My teacher said somethin about it but i wasnt paying attention

  • If by Mercury you mean the element rather than the planet, then I think leaked mercury poisoning in seeds has had a negative effect on some songbird populations (including yellowhammers) in the not too distant past. Other than that, I think you've got to go back to your teacher I'm afraid! Regards.

  • Thankyou haxhinexha!

  • Well they aren't a very common avairy bird but they don't do any harm to our eco-systems. I think most NZers are neutral toward yellowhammers

  • Interesting, thanks heir1986. Nice to know that not all of the British 'introductions' do harm to NZ's native flora and fauna!

  • Cheers NZWolf2, I agree. Although do you know if most New Zealanders like them, seeing as they're yet another European bird that was introduced over there and went on to do very well?

  • Beautiful bird. I see them around NZ parliament grounds, quite frequently.
