The ending scene with Al Pacino (Lefty) was heart-breaking. It was when he knew he was gonna be murdered that night so before he left the house, he made sure to leave his money, jewelries and the car key to Annette.
at 0:55 "WHAT A FUCK IS THAT!ANNETE ANNETE!"is one of the most best acting thing i ever seen. And i'm not talking only of what he said,i'm talking about his gesture WATCH HIM!He is a fucking genius
I had never seen the Godfather, and until I had watched this movie I thought Al Pacino had one acting style: overdone, loud, and abrassive; once you've seen him in one thing, you've seen all his roles. I was wrong. Watching both Depp and Pacino work together is hard to top.
Glad you've realised your error, lol. It's true he's done a few roles where he is loud and abrasive, but he's incredibly subtle in his approach and done PLENTY of roles where he is quite the opposite of the loud 'Richard Roma' type (of course u know that now that you've seen the Godfather...and this)...Have you seen Carlito's Way?
In the book, Donnie is dying that he has to spend Christmas with Lefty. He wanted desperately to get home, but he thought the job would suffer. Joe Pistone was a hero.
@pitbull103 Unlike as shown in the movie, I heard/read that in real life Donnie liked Sonny Black more than Lefty. But I guess the way it's shown in the movie makes for melodrama/emotion.
Yep, I don't remember which way it was in the book, but I think that you're right that Donnie "liked" Sonny more.
However, in the book it comes through strongly that Donnie never lost the grip on his true identity. Donnie realized that these supposed "friends" would kill him in a heartbeat.
Donnie also found their murdering and thieving ways repulsive. The mob in the movie is a distinctly unglamorous bunch -- far from the godfatheresque portrayal -- and more realistic. Great film.
@pitbull103 There's a documentary on youtube about Donnie Brasco, and Pistone expresses an obvious dislike of Lefty and the others. I still find it both funny and a head-scratcher that there are people calling Pistone a snitch, a traitor, etc. He was an FBI agent and infiltrating the mob. It was his job to snitch. That's what he was there for. I like the movie a lot, but I do think it portrays Lefty as too much of a loving, sentimental guy, same for Pistone.
You nailed it. It took a lot of guts for Pistone to do what he did. You're right about the portrayal of Lefty and Pistone.
Another mistake in the movie was the portrayal of the FBI's gratitude. Pistone called the medal ceremony the best moment of his career and he told of how much the FBI valued his courage and his work. The ceremony was a big deal and well attended by his peers.
Mob guys are scum. My own grandfather was pressured relentlessly in NJ for "protection" money in the 1940s.

Well, movies always change the story around to make it "better"
That's what they do, it's liek that for every movie.
I think it woulda sucked if they dodnlt have the caring relationship they did.
