Ive been stricken tho... Ive noticed in my own life that I hold on so loosely to health and living... Shane doesn't seem to give a shit if he lives or dies, yet the beautiful women and mothers we know love life so much and they're taken away way too early. Losing Kirsty was such a crime that the maker of this ironic and ass-backwards existence should be held accountable, tho I will give him credit for keeping Shane with us a while longer. Happy birthday, Shane
I shouldn't have watched all 6 parts as now I'm late to a holiday-themed event.......... but I'm glad I did. Thank You so much for posting this and for showing how much blood, sweat & tears, a little bit of happenstance and a LOT of beer drinking it takes to make one song. RIP Kristy MacColl.
I miss her as well ! To hear her fill's me heart ! Now just full of tears ! To soon to soon ! God Bless ya Kirsty sing one wit Luke an Ronnie for me !!
Just watched/listened to all six parts while at my desk at work...thank you so much for posting. I have always loved this song but now I love it even more!
I swear there's something in the blood. My Scots-Irish ancestors left the UK about 200 years ago, but the music resonates very deeply. And don't even play the bagpipes or I'll fookin' cry. It's embarrassing to break down like a little girl over music. How can you possibly explain that to someone who doesn't feel it? It's like it's embedded in the DNA. I can hear what it was like for my desperate ancestors who came here to toil like slaves all their lives. It's beautiful and lively and very sad.
This is the "Gone With The Wind" of songs. I always listen to is several times during the Christmas season... and each time it's like the first time. I still get choked up when the video get to the part where Shane and Kirsty dance.
watched this 1st time round on bbc 3, thanks for posting it unreal documentry about the best song ever made. the bit where mccoll sings by herself on the master tape is spine tingling
I saw the Pogues in Montreal 1987. It's almost 2011 and almost 24 years later, this band's song makes me proud of my youth. My wife is presently sick with a gastro bug and I'm watching this on a laptop. The laptop will be a gift for our three kids this Christmas. Anyway, not to ramble on but it's been a beautiful life, beautiful music and sourrounded by my wonderful family. Cheers to 2011 folks! I'LL make sure my kids learn this song and take it to heart.
Every Pogues fan should take the time to watch this documentary. Damn! I was moved to tears at the end when they talked about Kirsty's accident. What an insight to a truly brilliant song / band / collaboration.
many thanks @gza76! i'm filipino and this music is so stirring... it makes you happy so happy the tears so pleasurably well up my eyes while watching and listening to this classic song. many thanks.
@jondawg83 I couldnt agree more with you mate, very touching and i'm sure every single person has a bit of its own story connected to this song, Happy Christmas :-)
That was amazing and and the best background documentary to a piece of music I have ever seen or heard. The song is gripping alone and this puts so much character, depth and history to it...
great post. perhaps there should be more documentaries over here about Shane and the Pogues...like "If I should fall from grace: Shane Mcgowan story" or "Great Hunger" which are pretty hard to find, especially where I'm from...:)
Thank for posting this. I fell in love with Irish music thanks to the Pogues and this song is my second favorite after Dirty Old Town. Whatever anyone can say about Shane behaviour, I truly think this song is the making of a true genius. I mean, I'm not even remotely Irish, but this song really moves me. Anyway, I disgress, so thank you again on behalf of the Pogues fan's from France (like me) and everywhere in the world who would have missed this movie without you.
I didn't want this video to end.
