I'll give you credit for having the courage to post this video for all the world to see. That was a real pile in. Glad to know you are ok.
I would have made my approach from the far northeast end of the slot... where we used to years ago. If you did it from way back by the fence line, we could land well short of the baseball diamond.
Don't get into the habit of pulling in (increasing speed) to get down, you will only glide further more so with higher performing gliders - Speedy recovery
Good advice ChattaroyMan... did walk the LZ, didn't consider different approaches... Next time... I have been watching lots of videos, including my own... I need to get on the uprights much sooner, almost every time I wait until the last minute, dunno when I started doing that, but I need to break that habit right now... Thank you
Fixation is both good and bad. Looks like you were fixated on landing with a particular approach, that approach appeared obstructed, and you had no plan. Tip - walk the entire LZ and go through as many scenarios you can think of about how you'd land from ALL directions in various wind conditions - until you're dizzy from all the possibilities - then do it again.
You might also try flying a bit in the upright position. See how much control you have and how fast you can fly. Glad you'll fly again.
Tontar, I'm no pro by any means, I know that... H2 w/ 4h of flying time, about 200 flights.
Here's what happened, after I chose my landing pattern...
It's pretty simple, I didn't account for the hill just before the flat LZ... that's why I was still pulling in for speed (and to make sure I didn't overshoot the LZ), and then my feet hit the ground unexpectedly (still looking ahead at the flat LZ) and then my control bar, and the rest is obvious....
The approach looked fine, but you dove it into the ground, didn't let up on the dive soon enough. Maybe you believed the ground effect myth. :-) HG's can land easily and safely in a cross wind, allowing for the best approach pattern. Learn that HG's can land fine in a cross wind, allowing the best possible approach pattern to fit the field and obstacles.
Lose the vario and GoPro until you have the basics down solid. Do more launches and landings without soaring, until you have the basics down solid. The paraglider was there all along, like a tree or rock, so it would be easy to ignore and set up a landing as if it were a tree. Can't blame a blown landing on a tree.
Thank you Ann.... And, I plan on getting back to flying soon, after I recover (can't even put on a helmet yet) and after the glider recovers!!! (that may take more time than it'll take me to recover)
I hope you are well personally and get back to flying soon. I flew that site just a couple of weeks ago and also rolled in on the wheels (see video response).
It was... Well worth it... It was my first big flight.... Hopefully my last big crash...

Holy christ looks likt that hurt...Bet it was worth it though... despite the crash.

Guitar pilot.... I may just do that...
Soar8hours... Yeah... Thank God for medical insurance... $5 vs several thousand... The glider though... ~$1600.
Yellowman... Hurt the glider more than my face... Neck was sore for a bit...

Ouch that looked like it hurt.
yellowman88 1 month ago
That was expensive with both a doctor and hang glider repair bill at the same time!

P.S. You should make a short version just showing your approach and crash.

I've folded up a glider like that before... I was smart about doing it with Noman's glider.

Hello,
I hope youll be well soon!
I dont understand why you were pulling in until you crash? No getting upright or slowing down?
Im learning to hangglide myself and are really interested in what happened.
Thanks for this Video and sorry for my bad English!
