Nope you can get a box of 90 shooting clays for about 5 bucks at academy. There is a federal brand of bird/target shell that is only 4.99 for a box as well.
So you can buy 90 clay targets and enough bullets for each target for ~25$ + tax. Not that bad IMO.
There is a hunter-safety team at my school, and a kid in it came up to me and some other kids. We asked him if he was any good with shooting targets, his response word for word was "No, but I'm good at shooting skeet!" We all lost it
@iggvf Additionally it tends to be picky about ammo, and is especially sensitive to rounds with lighter powder loads as this causes it to short cycle. The over-unders I own are much easier to clean and take apart, which is especially important to me because as a hunter dirt and water do get into guns in the field, and when this happens the fewer parts to remove and clean is a huge bonus.
Instead of just trying to be a dick with comments like "owned" try actually taking some guns in the field.
It didn't upload my first comment, but I was saying that of the 5 shotguns I own, others are O/U or pump, the 1100 20ga is the least reliable and that it is often prone to jamming in as little as 200 rounds after cleaning and burns through o-rings. When it malfunctions in the field the mechanical complexity of the gun, especially the gas operated action, makes it frustrating to clear or repair without a clean environment and a cleaning kit.
hey guys im big into trap and really good but i think skeet is more fun and i dont know a ton about skeet but one thing i was wondering is where do you fit that last 25th shot in if your shooting either four or two shots at each station if im correct.
i LOVE skeet even though i just rabbit hunt i still like to sharpin my skills doing both trap and skeet. i use a remington 870 express pump with a 28inch barrol and still do ok even with out all that fancy shit if seen ppl use

I tend to prefer a Beretta over and under because the re-sale value will be among the best. If you want something much cheaper, even a Ruger Red Label will do the job. The trick is to ask around where you shoot and then try as many guns as you can find until you like the feel of one.
If you are just getting started and already have a shotgun, use it, as long as it isn't a single shot. A double gun or auto-loader is best but pumps are seen on the range alot too, especially right before dove season with all the people who are polishing up the needed and perishable skills for that. I shoot a Browning Citori and my wife shoots a Stoeger Condor I. It's all up to you, your taste and budget. if you are getting serious, get and O&U or auto.
@trey3105 I use a 1925 Browning A-5 "Light Twelve" semi auto Im thinkin about buying the Citori for my dad. hows the Citori handle i suppose being a Browning i expect it to be of the finest quality but never owned an over/under.
@ps3rulez2008 Stevens just came out with a new o/u... the model 512 Gold wing. check it out. it comes with 5 chokes and is a reletively nice gun for the easy price of around $550
I'd suggest a Remington 1100 in the 20 gauge with vent rib and skeet choke. This gun will break lots of targets, allows you to shoot three of the five events in a registered shoot, has less kick than a 12 gauge, even less kick than an over-and-under, and holds its value for future resale if you decide to get another gun. - - But this is just my opinion even if many other skeet shooters would also agree.
I forgot to mention that you can pick one up used for under $500 and parts are easily available when something breaks. Most of any repairs can be done in the field and a well kept used gun is every bit as good as a new one.
I have a Remington 1100 20 gauge and honestly would not recommend it. It requires a lot of maintenance and is prone to jamming, even when properly cleaned. It is not as simple to disassemble as an over under and wears through rubber O-rings quickly, which leads to jamming. I have also found that many hunting fields do not like semi-auto shotguns and prefer that over-under shotguns are used.
I agree. I don't have one but kno someone that does. with trap loads it turns into a single shot cause it only has 1 gas port to cycle it. it's ok with slugs or real heavy loads. Get a 11-87 or an 870. 11-87 is the same as a 1100 but has 2 gas ports and more reliable. but an 870 (i have one) can't be beat for reliability.
I find it funny that eve talked about how it is a good gun because you can easily find parts WHEN it breaks and how you can do repairs in the field. I say just get a gun that wont break in the field on you.
Not really funny when you consider that really serious skeet shooters can put 1000-2000 shells through their gun in an average week of practice and tournaments. ALL guns will eventually break down at some point and the Remington 1100 is so common on skeet fields that someone will always have a quick repair kit handy and you're back in business. You really can't do that with a shotgun that needs to go back to the factory or have a qualified gunsmith work on.
@mongoose8330 or you could buy a tank yea thats it a tank, I bet that would work (end sarcasm) Look noob, all guns WILL break, and wear down, ALL I repeat ALL guns. Why not just stick to your nerf guns, and well all be ok.
lol i hav the same gun. for me if i dont clean it it jams up a lot. it does wear the o rings pretty good. mine i havnt had too many problems with it, with my other 1 i had a lot tho
i have natural good aim i love it :) i just used my new shotgun today and i was hitting the clays everytime then i went ont to double clays and i shot both with 2 second no joke its pretty fast for a pump shotgun
A 410 is pretty good to start with, especially with your body size. Also, you'll learn to shoot with a tighter pattern. Great to hear that you're shooting, remember to alwyas shoot safe and enjoy yourself!
i was always into deer hunting and duck hunting with my father,he was one of the best in victoria i am now 13 he died when i was 8 and i chose to follow in his foot steps, shooting every second sunday at the field and game shooting range, i am now no.4 u/15 shooter in australia , its not hard give it a go !!

the best way to shoot skeet is just with a cheap manual thrower and when ur with your family and friends with a good ol' 870 in your hands :)

you shoot a repeat if you miss a target (the first target you miss you repeat) or you shoot your 25th shot at stand 8 at the low house (ie 2 shots)
sentryaus 2 years ago
you take it at your first missed shot, or if you're good enough, you take another low at the last station
