It's amazing how many people comment (complain) about the shift lights coming on at low RPM. They even put annotations in the video to avoid confusion!
Haha this is fucking stupid. First of all, who's going to stare down at a tiny screen while driving hard? Also the shift lights clearly aren't calibrated properly, because they go red at about 2/3 of the RPM range. If you aren't capable enough to shift based on the odo or engine sound, get a shift light. It'll mount high enough that you don't have to take your eyes off the road, and it won't a) cost a fortune or b) be a pain in the ass to install.
I love this steering wheel. Just have a question. A friend has this steering wheel on a 330i Performance, the issue is that the wheel does not get on when the car is started as i see in the video. Don't know how to configure it. Could you help me please? We have to take into a count that this was installed after the car was sold. Thanks in advance...
i got a quote for my ideal e92 and with all the parts (not that i can afford it) it came up to £60,080! lol! looks like it has now just gone up to £61,580. love this wheel!
its kinda not worth it for 1,500.. i mean you still have the tachometer on the dashboard.. and when you look at the LED's.. you're gonna have the tach in your view.. might aswell just install a little red light for when to shit.. and i think it already has one?
i think its pretty obvious that if people are gonna get this it would be because it looks cool, not because they need it to know when to shift. and the wheel is alcantra.
If you've done any racing at all, you'll realize that taking your eyes off the track for even a moment to look at the tach, is not a good thing. The advantage to this system is that your periferal vision will pick up the lights and colors so you never have to avert your eyes. I've seen these sell for twice as much... Absolutely worth it in my book!
The steering wheels shift point is user programmable. We intentionally set it low for that demonstration (as mentioned in the video annotations and description). Redlining the engine with no load is abusive, and not necessary for the demonstration. We have two other videos that show this wheel in a realistic setting, and encourage you to view them. There's one on track with the E90 M3 and for the best view of the shift lights view the E90/E92 M3 Test Pipes & Software Dyno video.
AHHHH great! thank you so much! i'm buying a 135 this summer and this steering wheel is now going to be waiting in my garage until it arrives! thanks for clearing that up, i suppose i should have read the whole description :( keep up the good work.
As mentioned in the annotations of the video, the shift lights are user programmable. We intentionally set the shift point low (3,000rpm) to not abuse the engine. To see the shift lights in a realistic setting, I suggest checking out the video response to this video -- which has in car track footage in the same M3. Hope this clarifies.
As for the sound, that seems to be the norm on this new V8. There's a lot going on inside the intake tract. We'll know more as we get deeper into the engine our our project M3.
Yes, this is the same Genuine BMW Performance wheel that can be purchased as an accessory from BMW for $1,350 (available from our website or sale teams for $1,099).
how much does this cost??

Very helpful for enthusiasts. I personally wouldn't care about the price of it since it's a useful accessory that's worth it. Good job BMW.

1) Can it be turned off when you are not in a racing mood?
2) What the hell is making that m3 sound like it has a BOV?
james60290 3 years ago
Yes, the wheel can be turned on and off at will.
As for the sound, that seems to be the norm on this new V8. There's a lot going on inside the intake tract. We'll know more as we get deeper into the engine our our project M3.

i don't think a professional race car driver need a shift point indicator. What is that for. Thousand bucks for a steering wheel ? Not worth !

Tell that to all the F1 drivers. :-)
