Pink Floyd's, Syd Barrett produced a song called Astronomy Domine, which I reckon would make a great soundtrack to Earthship vids, but that's just me!
Good Video! I am building an Earthship here in Florida and we are opening the build up to people who want to come check it out. The website is earthship florida project
How great of you to do so! Congrats! I'll definitely check out your site.
Are you on their mailing list? If so, you'll see links to Colbert's funny interview of Michael, plus the 'Garbage Warrior' documentary. I'm so pleased to see Earthships finally coming more into the 'mainstream'
:D Thx much; see you soon!
(posting this from my other channel but tiz all liz biz:)
there is already one in brighton, and one in scotland (fife earthship). i hear there is an earthship workshop in 2008 in glasgow area, maybe you could sign up for that and learn to build an earthship at the same time - whilst helping:)
Although Earthship Biotecture designed and provided drawings for this project, the Earthship Biotecture build team is not involved at all in the execution of building the project. Therefore this project cannot be considered an 'earthship' without direct supervision from Earthship Biotecture.
So what your saying is that because they aren't paying your "crew" of potheads they can't call it an Earthship, despite the fact that they paid for the plans for the house from you ? Your such a hypocrite Mike. Thanks for all your hard work in developing the idea. Now you can keep the rest of your opinions to yourself.
I don't know about the "pothead" remark, but I have to agree: that remark by Mr. Reynolds comes dangerously close to the same hierarchical, greedy thinking that has made Earthships so necessary . . . . wow. I was going to try to work with Earthship Biotecture when I decided to build, but I think I'll reconsider.
@kissfool Our society has created a legal monster: .. I *think* I understand with legalities and protections being so necessary in our society why earthship would say this...if I were you the first thing I would do is ask a few questions of earthship before making decisions. They know best why they said what they did...
@kissfool I have to agree with tizlizbiz. I'm not in any way associated with Biotecture, and I haven't spoken with anyone there. However, I did see the documentary "Garbage Warrior." They went through hell and back trying to get what they were doing legitimized. They have big picture concerns. I can completely understand why Mike Reynolds would not want just anyone throwing the name Earthship on their construction, even if the plans came directly from Biotecture.
@Vanb19 Just to add to my previous post. Mike Reynolds does not seem to be saying that you shouldn't build something from their plans or even something inspired by their designs. He appears, imo, to be stating that the name Earthship should not be attached to a project unless Biotecture is directly involved with the project. Who cares about the name anyway? As long as what you build serves its purpose, what you call it really shouldn't be that important.
@kissfool I totally agree. I have a policy when dealing with anyone: They have to be perfect people if I am going to talk with them at all. If the way they behave does not line up with the fantasy that I have created for them in my head, that's it. I'll be super polite about writing them off, though... make it sound like I hate to do it. I find the word "disappointed" and all its conjugations really enables a proper judgment delivery. Makes me appear vulnerable, yet resolved.
@incedious69 I understand with legalities and protections being so necessary in our society why earthship would say this. Calm questions in lieu of quick judgements are the preferred option here ...as on any thread of mine.
Earthships will one day be the standard and each quarter acre block in the burbs of the world will have one. Without this vision, we are consigning ourselves to acceptance which means ongoing environmental damage. Dare to dream and one day it will come true.
Perhaps if you can fit me in as a neighbour, along with Deb, Cindy and Sohosquare, Flakey, we can share a glass of rain water.
Yes, and although we might like to see faster progress in this direction, I must say, after some 30 years of my personal interest in seeing changes in how we build, I do see much more such interest shown these days...some progress! My thanks for watching, Rhonda!
What a genius Michael Reynolds is! I hope his idea becomes very successful worldwide. I agree with Minn. Taos is a wonderful place to have one. Thank you for posting this. ;)
He is! I interviewed him in '03 and was amazed that he talked nonstop about his vision for over an hour; he sure puts his energy wholeheartedly into achieving his vision, too. Much to admire in that...and I'm so glad to hear you are sharing this! The new Phoenix Earthship vid will post soon, too. It's sublimely beautiful :)
Oooh, Liz, thanks for sharing this. I've always said New Mexico will be my final home... I doubt I'll be able to have an earthship but this adds new texture to my dream :)
Oh, Flakey! That is soooo wonderful! You promised and you delivered. If I should ever play and win the lottery, you and I are going to be neighbours in Earthships! :) Thanks for showing us this. x
Thanks for watching and approving! How about neighbors w/Minniver and maybe even Tahllulah, too? We could add to the list, I'm sure! The best is yet to come: the new Phoenix Earthship vid...up by next Friday :D
-- I love these buildings. They are both beautiful and brilliant. Thanks for uploading.

The mosaic glass pieces in the wall were beautiful! All homes should be built like that. It would really help the environment. :)
