haha, I got stuck in a similar story last year in my WJ. Went to cross a creek and got partway into it and the nose dropped from underneath me. Both sides were buried up to the hood in sand and water and the rear wheels (w/swaybar discoed) were nearly off the ground. Took my friends TJ and a full size f150 pulling on my from a Y'd tow rope pulling to get me out. A couple months later when I put new gears was was pulling sand out of the axle housing.
hahah man that sucks. that happened to me once in the back of my field. i thought i could make it through this little pond and i crawled into it like you did and both my front tires sank and i couldnt get out. I also had to have my buddy's chevy silverado 1500 pull me out. no inside water damage tho
I WOULD"NT GET THE LIMITED SLIP "read the word SLIP". SERIOUSLY I WOULD JUST GET A WARN WINCH A 9500 SHOULD BE JUST FINE.A WINCH SHOULD SOLVE ALL OF YOUR WHEELING PROBLEMS DID MINES.EVEN THOUGH I GOT ARB LOCKERS IN THE FRONT OF MY 06 TUNDRA. I STILL NEEDED MY WINCH FOR PULLING MYSELF OUT OF THE BEACH.
That may be true.. but then again.. if a person were going 45 or 50 when they hit that puddle.. it couldn't be more than .. what say 40 ft long?.. I think you could have made it. :-)
I dun care what happens to my other Jeep. But if I ever did that to my WJ I'd be pissed. have buried it but not sunk. I would have made that same mistake - so deceiving - good thing you crawled into it.
This little series of videos gave me a nice ab workout laughing. You guys are a riot! I think a snorkel might be on your future purchasing list as well. Was anything on the inside damaged, like electronics?
its not Quadradrive, its just Quadratrac IIm, i wish i had it...but im goign to be doing gears soon so i might add a limited slip to the front or add in a arb locker to the front.
Hey buddy, Don't be going for the Limited slip. In the dana 30, the limited slips are crap. Actually, all Limited slips are crap. they still allow tires to spin, and if you have a tire in the air, with 0 traction, the tire with the most traction, wont get any power.
I suggest either an ARB (is either open diffs, or spooled), or an Auburn ECTED (acts as a limited slip for mild off roading, or a spool for the real tough shit, just at the flip of a switch)
Get Quadra drive ;)

btw its not the limited slip that jeeps have. most have the vari lockers if equipped.
ie one tire spins and buils up pressure and locks the other tire in, works very well in 4wd
i have an 03 limited with the 4.7ho and quadradrive

nope no electronics....but i have TJ drain plugs now....and there is no snorkel for the WJ yet but i have some ideas on making one...

I guess such a mud hole was unexpected on that "normal" track ...
Quadradrive was helpful several times on mine, but for tough offroad, a 100% difflock rules !!!
Another issue is "flexing" ...
Your locker idea is good, anyway.
