Wow! All the Boy Scouts with their negative comments. This guy is not a guide @NRG. This is standard procedure for repelling in rock climbing. 90% of repels are done this way (double rope, with an ATC, hand in front and no back up)They are doing it text book. I can tell from his style he only has a couple of years experience but is doing nothing wrong. It would not be a bad Idea if this was her first repel to have a firemen's belay but she seems confident enough to fly solo.
First, a rappel descent CAN be controlled with your hand in front of you. I do it all the time. Second, there have been numerous accidents with beginner rappels and figure eight belay devices causing biner failure. BAD CHOICE as a guide; if that is what you are. Third, there are no backups whatsoever. I didn't see anyone at the bottom on a fireman's belay, and she didn't have a friction hitch either. If you are a guide, you should be fired. If her brake hand comes off, she's dead. Idiots.
I agree. At least put your brake hand out to your side so you can control your decent. Somehow no one hurt themselves. Even when I was just a beginner in a college elective that taught rappelling, using racks and not figure 8's--they always stressed your break hand needs to be behind you or at the side or trouble could ensue.
your repelling technique is all wrong!! just sayin, you have no way of controlling your rate of descent with your hands in front of you!! AIR ASSAULT!!!!
if u wanna see some good places to repell go to kentucky red river gorge nice nice 250 footer cliffs one called the knob its pretty sweet and the best part is the hike up to it called indians staircase by far one of the best places to repell in the wv ky oh area
whatsup buddy i'm from parkersburg need to tell ur buddy that he is repelling incorrectly mainly bc u need to keep ur right toward your butt and never never ever put ur hand right below the carribener or your loop setup bc it will suck his damn hand in it seen it to many times especially to inexperienced climbers and repellers such as this girl hes tryin to teach the incorrect way not bashing buddy just seen it happen to many times plus ya need someone to balet especially fof the girl
