You know, I really like her voice for this role. She has such an interesting timbre. I do agree that she would make an excellent Ariodante.Excellente!

I can't believe they made HER sing Polinesso while having Angelika K. as Ariodante. I don't mean any disrespect for Ms. Kirchschlager, but Genaux would've been so much more ideal as Ariodante. I suppose Genaux's dark timber could sound villainous, but still! I can only imagine her "Con l'ali di costanza" and "Scherza infida".

Couldn't agree more vitellia. I love AK's voice and her great Handel CD. But ... Vivica would be a perfect Ario, she has sung THE ultimate Dopo Notte for me. Casting her as Poliesso is like putting her into a cage where there's only low register, eventually spiced with some high notes. But no place for these Carestini-runs over 2 octaves. I dream as well of "Con l'ali di costanza" or "Preparati a morire". "Scherza Infida" she has sung, it's on yt.

Yeah, I'd run off with the villain any time if he sang like this! Besides, I really find Ariodante a rather weak and whiny character on the verge of being annoying. The real hero/problem-solver of the opera is his brother, I think.

Hi, do you know Joyce di Donato's rendition of Ariodante? You liked her, true? Joyce for me the only 100% satisfying A on stage ever (since I haven't heard Vivica). Will upload some arias asap. She showed all facettes of his character, sang a most rageous "Preparati a morire". Can't wait to hear her Furore CD!

Oh yeah, I love Joyce Didonato ever since her fabulous Handel recordings with Alan Curtis, and thank god, there've been quite a few!!! I've said this elsewhere, but she is the ultimate high lyric mezzo to me, something of a hybrid between Graham and Larmore. She is another mezzo who would make a great Cleopatra. I can't wait to hear her Ariodante. I'd be so grateful to hear it!
