Not everyone. Think, for example, of the Islandish Thor's hammer, where the vikings used the cross in their Thor's hammer emblem. It wasn't as harsh when Christianity arose, just like it wasn't that harsh when the Romans took over parts of northern europe. The accepted local dieties etc. Nonetheless, I agree that during the centuries, christianity fucked up more and more!
