Don't believe this crap. There is no such thing as ADD "instant success." Talk to your psychologist, learn about behavioral interventions (e.g. making to-do-lists, rewarding your self for activities, etc.), and seek appropriate medical interventions if necessary. I have ADD, and I have been dealing with it since childhood. I'm in a doctoral program in psychology, and have learned the hard-way that coping with this stuff takes time and effort.
I get so engrossed in books that I fiver to do shit. Like I was studying how light switches work. I forgot to eat. Then as I was all like "time to eat now, I saw the word superconductor. I then took 2 hours studying that. I never even noticed I was soo insanely hungry!
I could be into somehting and forget I have a pot of water boiling and it boils all the way down.. i wont get it until i start smellling that burnt pot smell lol
or i could be boiling an egg, and get so into something the egg explodes lol
m 19 i cant study and focus.my mind starts wandering ,daydreaming a lot.i used to be good at studies in school but from around age 15 i find studies very hard.i feel anxious around in crowd, neither i want to be left alone.i dont like doing boring stuff or things that are not easy.Do i have ADHD/ADD or nothing ?
I feel bad because I can't always remember things I should, for example where I left my keys, or to call a specific client on the day I said, and if I do, to bring up all all the points in intend to discuss.
But I have an impeccable memory with things I take great interest in. I don't consider myself a movie buff, but I can quote many lines from just about any movie, or comedy routine I enjoy. This part of my memory astounds people.
I wish I had more control over my apparent powerful memory.
but you cannot maintain the momentum and attention to follow through that task, simply because its not interesting / stimulating enough.
Hyper-focus isn't a good thing, its a product of a brain out of balance, there is some benefit but a lot of disability.
Ultimately the cingulate needs to "cool-down" and the PFC needs to "juice-back-up". This will make for a clean, unbiased focus on all things, not just obsessions / daydreams.
BS. I guess that's why I skipped through the rest of the video just past 15 seconds, and started saying how stupid this was. ... Even though I get the point.. Still.
Yeah, hyper focus is bullshit, I would give it back given the chance!
Your interests get in the way of your life, they keep you awake at night & it generates a lot of "urgency" in my nervous system, gets me fired up and even anxious. So no, hyper focus is shite, better to have a healthy focus like normal people who are interested in something and have more flexibility to focus on things that arn't so interesting.
How to turn hyper focus on to something that doesn't interest you?
True. Things that interests you are able to take a lot of time of a person with ADD since they are so vulnerable to addiction (they get obsessive with stuff that they find interesting). You can't turn on hyper focus, it happens naturally, mostly without the person himself even noticing until someone already called out to him for two or more times. I have it when watching movies mostly.
I have ADD ad an 30 year old adult and I have an extreme focus on things I want to do, but in no way do I loss sences around me or other matters that might pass by.
I'm in the process of getting ready to go for a 1 week trial to find out for sure if I have Adult ADHD.
I've read up a lot on it and I can totally relate to hyperfocus.
I just saw a mini-doc saying Adult ADHD is a myth. What a pile of shit. You can't say that unless you have it or believe you have it because you don't know what it's like.
That's totally true. People who aren't ADD don't get that it's like a ping-pong game inside your head that does't stop. You go at a million miles faster.
Good luck with your evaluation. That can help to solved some issues you might be having. It's important to get a good diagnosis. Adult ADHD is real!
Isn't it great when you hear some self-righteous pencil neck trying to tell you what you are and are not experiencing?!?! The arrogance never ends. Next week they'll be assigning us our favorite color and telling us when we need to take a leak!!!! I just can't figure out how a person can take it upon themselves to lecture you on what it's like to be you. They're simple solution to all this is that we're just stupid and lazy. Tell that to Da Vinci (he was Adult ADD/ADHD run amok.).
I took adderall and I had MAJOR Hyperfocus. I would sit at my computer writing, researching, or on MySpace and Facebook for DAYS. I didn't eat or sleep and lost 6 pounds in two days once. I finally got so tolerant to it, that I no longer abused it. I was scared I would have a heart attack or a stroke.. It also gave me panic and anxiety at times, so I took KLonopin to deal with it. Then I was HORRIBLY addicted to Klonopin!
Computers make me Hyperfocused.. Like new Info.. and Stimulation.. Quick Fixes.. Like a Slot machine with Fun Bonuses.. wish I had more Interest in Cleaning and working out I need a Balance ..What do you do about it.. How Do u set Boundaries with your activities
besides i doubt the person posting this movie is trustworthy for the fact it looks like a fraud website, there's no doubt having hyperfocus is lovely.
While I know how to activate it and when i can't it's still annoying to hyperfocus when people are around since most people can only get such a tense concentration if they're obsessed and they start think you're obsessed.
Still, hyperfocus is known in autism and i think many pdd nos labeled kids are ADD kids.
So Very very True.. I have Screen Addictions.. TV/Computer..and Slot machines.. I Get Lost for Hours and Hours and Hours!!!! In ADD.. it keeps your neuons Firning.. it is actually a Calming affect!!!! Hard to Turn off... We've conditioned our BRains.. i Love this!! Like OCD
Topics that you're interested in, excite you. Excitement causes adrenaline release, leading to more interest, excitement, and adrenaline. I can't imagine how to cause an adrenaline release by will alone when involved in something that you're not interested in.
hahahha i havent been diagnosed but omg!! thats soo me and dit does drive people aroiund me nuts hahaha they r like hellooooooooooooooooo geeeez hahahahaah
Ever noticed this: When watching an interresting or cool program on the tv and after a while the wall in the background fades to black slowly? That's a form of hyperfocussing I think most ppl know and can. Add is indeed a lack of stimuly filters in the brain which makes prioritizing incoming impulses difficould/near impossible. Hyperfocus sounds like to opposite doesn't it? Instead of not filtering anything, you filter all bit 1 thing.
True Adult ADD is the mind lacks filters, Thus the mind will shut down from information overload, And just outright block a source of information. Hyperfocusing is a byproduct. its allso believe that a person in a hyperfocused state can slow down there perception of time.

Is ADD like this?
Forgetting the stove element is on...for 5 hours?
Forgetting to do your income tax...for 4 years?
Phoning to book an immediate haircut and phoning a hour later to re-book, because you forgot.
Forgetting to check your phone messages for 2 weeks. Your BUSINESS phone.
Forgetting to bill someone for the $1000.00 that they owe?
Forgetting to get a tuneup for your car - for 6 years!
Leaving the barbeque on - OVERNIGHT?
Just curious - a friend of mine does these sort of things

i used to have that problem too, but i learned that simplicity and patterns are great tools if you have add.
break down a specific routine and that is "remembering the 3's":
cell, wallet, keys...... cell wallet keys, cell wallet keys, cell wallet keys.
always check for them like these items are a part of your body. you will then build an automatic sense to check every time you leave a spot.
if you forget to build the routine, just continue doing it. it builds up.
