how anyone can possibly NOT like this song is beyond my understanding. I guess there's no account for good taste with everyone. Most people I know consider this this song to be Silverchair's finest. Just because it doesn't follow what they did previously does not mean it's shit. To see the band grow and evolve was a joy. Sad that it looks like they're finished now though.

i don't get it. i always thought one of Silverchair's greatest qualities was the ability of reaching new sounds and not losing the quality. if you guys are the so called "fans", why won't you support the band for what they make? you can take from the frogstomp/freakshow era to the neon ballroom era, even the diorama era, they sound like completely different bands, and all of them are great records. now that Silverchair comes up with something more upbeat and acessible, you "fans" get pissed off?

It's not about whinging about them changing, or developing. Bands evolve. Diorama was radically different from Freak Show; but it wasn't criticised, because it was brilliant.

Young Modern is different. It's also straightforward, boring, and lacking a lot of the things that made the Chair such a great band in the first place.

Silverchair started out as a derivative band cashing in on the grunge craze - not that you could expect much more from them, given their age when they started. Much to everyone's surprise, they developed into a really incredible band. This is one of their best songs. This is a band that is getting better and better, not the other way around.
