  • gimicks

  • lol the loading thing was such a fail :D

  • Siri doesn't understand me most of the time. I hardly use it anyway.

  • siri is a gimmick the only useful part of siri is a copy of what android has had for over year

  • Gimmick for sure

  • lol, I'm Australian and I get amusement from people impersonating Australians...

  • guys, if you want to watch realy good teck reviews, subscribe to gadget university now!

  • In between :p

  • I sort of distrust A.Is. In case they get too smart.

  • I think the way Siri works is it sends your command to a remote server, interprets it and sends back the command for the iphone to execute. So it isnt using pre-programmed answers, but the artificial intelligence of a "smarter" computer.

  • man i dont give a fuck about news spammer

  • I have two things to say:

1 there IS Siri in Mexico (US english)

2 Siri responds to a lot of strange and un common questions, like "who's your daddy?" or "was Steve Jobs gay?" and Siri responded with: "you are" and "I can't tell you that" respectively, and I don't think those questions were preprogramed : O

  • It's shit... You go to use the "Microphone option" to write a text message it doesn't even pick up what you're saying, hopefully becomes "woefully" ROFL

  • I just upgraded from a 3gs and the difference are remarkable. Worth every penny.

  • Siri actually works incredibly well at the moment, even though it's still a beta product. If you consider the data sets Apple is gathering from the 6-7 million 4S users on a daily basis it's inevitable that Siri will be able to understand very complex questions very soon. And the fact that all the interpretation and responding happens on Apple's side allows Siri to get smarter without the need for software updates on the user's side.

  • Your Hot in a weird way...:) Yum

  • future.

  • Siri at the moment is just a kind of novelty thing that u can show off or mess around with. If ur in public ur not going 2 start talking 2 ur phone as it'd b kinda wierd and every1 would hear what ur doing. If they make 1 that can read ur mind... now that'd get apple back into the markets!!!!!! B)

  • @LACK78 im not kidding i set my 4s to australia then held at up at 1:32 at it worked!!!

  • I hope everyone realises that that is not how Aussies actually speak...

  • Dave, are you having any problems with Lion?

    Thanks,

    Tim 

  • I've been playing around with Siri on a daily basis and I can assure you that it's no gimmick. It's ability to utilise Apple features such as the alarm clock, calculator, reminders, messaging and music player, and most importantly, safari- is actually astounding. You'll need to play with it!

  • Good thing I have an android with Iris. Heh heh

  • Good try with the aussie accent Dave.

  • Siri is the best Got it 2day and is funny but can't tell jokes

  • cool intro

  • first ten seconds = mind blown

  • I'd say it has big potential but at the moment it won't really reach it

  • Wait...I'm from Ireland and I'm getting the 4S on the 28th when it comes out! Are you saying I won't be able to use Siri at all?!?!? Not even the English voice?!?!? :(

  • ncie impression XD , nice vid too

  • mindreading apps are the future

  • I personally think that Siri is alright when you are either in a small environmental setting such as at home or in the car (not so much in a more social setting such as the classroom/ bar/ club), when both hands are busy, or simply just bored. Because of these reasons, I feel that Siri is a gimmick.

  • Wonder why Alex from Leopard was never made Siri's default voice. It sounds so much more natural.

  • Gimmick big time. Saving my money for something better..

  • Siri is just... why...

  • are you ever going to finish the wall behind you?

  • Future

  • its funny. my mate has an iPhone 4S and we said pre much that exact thing to it ... and it understood us XD (im in Aus)

  • Siri is Alex's twin sister

  • That was a good accent =P. I don't think that it is a gimmic

  • Dave, I'm from Australia, and that was shocking. Please, never again.

  • Ha ha, nice funny video there Dave! keep that humor in your videos ;)

  • I have tried siri, and it works really well, but I till think it i a gimmick for now.

  • I'm an aussie and I loved that impression.

  • Siri is the future

  • Gimmick

  • 1:33 ok very good xD

  • Android=Iris=:)

  • I actually found Siri useful, mostly for setting alarms and a few reminders. But I also realized Siri isn't on the iPhone, if u put ur phone in airplane mode. Siri is unusable without the Internet.

  • siri is nothing new. Boring boring boriing

  • after the first few days you kinda forget siri is on the phone

  • I'm keeping my 3gs until the iPhone 5 is released.

  • I don't have an iphone yet. so i'm getting the new one so that in 2 years it wont be super out of date.

  • Gimmick.

  • 3Gs, pffft yeah try an upgrade from the 3G

  • It definitely has some potential. It's just not there yet. But it is really cool.

  • Siri can be enabled in any country,

  • The problem is most people think Siri will be their main method of using the iPhone, and when this isn't the case they start saying it's just a 'gimmick'. But Siri is meant to be a 'tool' not THE tool to aid the user. One isn't gonna walk around talking to it all day, one is gonna use it for specific tasks. When looking at Siri in that context one will appreciate it and not be so quick to dismiss it.

  • We get Siri here its just not fully featured but you can do all the voice control on your phone etc

  • Siri is fucking awesome :)

  • Gimmick...I hope. I'm just getting used to touchscreens, last thing I want to do is talk at my phone. Mind you like everything I haven't got to use it, have I?

  • Gimmick.

  • I'm sure Siri will come to the iPhone 4 and 3GS by 3rd party jailbreakers. LOL I'd like to see it on a first generation iPhone.

  • Siri is the future, but i keep my iPhone 4 and wait for the 5.

  • awwww you got my hopes up...

  • I agree with Dave that there is potential with this type of technology, but as it stands now it's a gimmick. It is more polished than Android's voice control, though not by much. I rarely use Google Voice aside from the odd text or when placing a call. When I want to set my alarm I just manually set my alarm.

  • Siri is actually good

  • @LACK78

3:02 You got me soooo excited... LOL =(

  • I not going to lie. I like Siri

  • how is your iphone 3gs performing with ios5 my ipod touch 4g is really slow sometimes :/

  • @earlbee31 why won't we experience Siri here in Ireland,

    We speak English here,

  • gimmick

  • Siri is a terminator

  • nice aussie accent

  • Siri should be something implemented in a new robot that can do your chores for you (I'm looking at you, Apple), not so much a phone. It's a gimmick, for sure.

  • As well as Siri might work, I don't see myself using it once the novelty wears off. Not in public, and not by myself. Also, I think it promotes some really unhealthy behavior (treating your phone like a person).

Lastly, it's quite creepy that they gave it so much attitude/personality. It'd be okay if it had answers for some quirky questions, e.g. "what is the meaning of life," but not answers to "where can I hide a body." It just feels too much like a person (an Uncanny Valley of sorts).

  • @legr8est1234 Think about blind people or those with motor difficulties. This kind of tech is a god send to them, it improves their daily life and just makes things less of a chore for them. The same benefits can be gotten by people who aren't visually impaired and are fully able. It's faster and easier to speak out a message than type it, especially good when driving for example.

  • @TalesOfWar I understand that the blind will benefit from this technology more than others. But that's a fairly small slice of the apple.

As for the rest of the iPhone-owning world, I simply don't think this'll catch on. I've had voice commands on my GPS, and they work fairly well. However, I just don't feel comfortable talking when I'm by myself. I'd feel even more awkward if there are people around.

Only time will tell if Siri, unlike other voice command systems, will catch on. I think not.

  • "Releasing software when it's still it Beta..." Google...

  • Purely a gimmick... Just like the rest of Apple.

  • i think siri and other voice control software will be the future but as of right now no. apple are really onto somthing here with siri if they just put in the work with it i think it will transfourm from a toy to a tool.

  • Siri cant understand swedish =/

  • im gonna remove skype!

  • What does bloody mean??

  • siri is fun for a couple of minutes...just a gimmick to me

  • Nice video :)

  • I think Siri is fun at the very least, to bad you live Ireland !! You can't exprance Siri , you won't get your brith if you get a chance to to use Siri.

  • I think its a bit gimmicky

  • I think Siri + the reminders app will be a game changer, it has for me

  • Siri = Eagle Eye part 2

  • at 3:00 i gasped and screamed cuz i was so excited too bad it wasnt real.

  • I can't wait to see what smart phone will be like five years from now? :)

Good video, Dave, and very funny ending, lol! Thumbs Way Up!

  • 1:32 i lol"d

  • I think they are neither. I don't think it is a gimmick because it truly is useful, but it should not be the feature that smartphones will revolve around.

  • they need to be improved, galaxy s2's voice detection sucks for instance and from what I've seen it doesn't seem 4s will be that much better

  • I think it's a gimmick in that it is the "big feature" on this one. That really sucks.

  • Nice video man:) !!

  • I dont think it is a gimmick. It is also not the future of smart phones. It is a handy feature that all phones should have, but should not revolve around.

  • i think it is a little bit
