Considering that his lastname is German I expected him to do better than this. He certainly didn't convince us German speakers, but I guess that Americans won't notice. His accent is the main problem, but at least he tries to speak a foreign language on (inter)national television and he deserves credit for that.. And his shooting/shouting/torturing skills are impressive.

Interesting that the native Germans don't understand this. I'm Irish but have no difficulty understanding it having only done 6 years of fairly intermediate German. Guess it's something to do with the way we've been exposed to the language...

@jolty89 I think the problem is that some importent parts of the pronunciation are wrong or missing. I understand what he wants to say, but i think it sounds as if i talke part in a conservation in english - everybody notices instantly that i dont do this every day. Regards to ireland, one of the most beautifull landscapes in our part of the earth! :-)

German isnt an *dirty* language as the translation tells us, a better one is blunt for "ungehobelt" ...whatever its an beautyful language with much more words to describe things as u have in english,specialy for poetry! :)

@89jobo I'm german and I think so, too. When I first saw this scene, I was so delighted that they gave Kiefer's Jack Bauer some german lines that I didn't give a shift about it's actual credibility. I rather repeated the scene until I understood the words he was supposed to say. And I still love it.
