  • I'm really angry at whoever was in charge of letting those soldier's ashes get dumped in a landfill. I honestly think someone should rip out their finger nails ! I might sound insane but if the government lets this slide then the house and senate should be put in prison. Freedom isn't free for these people to be free to run around .

  • The song sung in this video by Ronan Tynan is in the movie WE WERE SOLDIERS, but it is only instrumental in the movie. This is one of the greatest tributes I've seen...brought my wife and I both to tears...thank you for this You-tube video. May God bless our heroes, and their families...

  • God Bless our troops! They are so brave! Thank you to all our troops for protecting our freedom. This video should be shown to ALL. The troops and their families sacrifice so much for us.

  • A special thanks to General Stillions for sharing and to West Point where my memories of service remain as clear today as they were then. God Bless all those who have served; are serving and those yet to serve.

    Regards

Steve at Country Roads in Florida (AKA Chief)

  • The American flag does not fly because the wind moves past it. The American flag flies from the last breath of each military member who has died protecting it. American troops don't fight because they hate what's in front of them...they fight because they love what's behind them."

  • @congal42 Do you know where this quote originated from?

  • @botanikal It was followed by " Re-Post this if you support the troops " on facebook.

  • @botanikal sorry, I don't know. I saw it on Facebook.

  • war's hell plain and simple but sometimes in order to have peace you have to fight for it

  • They should show this to all children once a month from the first form in senior school. Freedom is not Free. Puts all my problems into perspective......

  • If this doesn't make you hate war, I don't know what will.

Lord, please bring my son-in-law home safely, in one piece, and alive.

  • @Florisotanc54 amen

  • Thank you for a great tribute to our Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines. As a disabled Vietnam Combat Vet', both enlisted and commissioned, it does this old soldier's heart good to see folks like you are there supporting those who defend Freedom and particularly, those who gave ALL. Thank you for a great tribute to all or Military..

  • As I celebrate this memorial day, my hope is this great nation of ours takes the opportunity to teach future generations.. our children the meaning of this holiday. This video is a beautiful tribute to the fallen heroes of our armed forces. My family and I are eternally grateful!!

  • what a somber and beautiful video and just in time for Memorial Day - I am a USAF veteran,an AF wife and an Armymom of one SGT who has been to Afghanistan. Currently in the AmericanLegion and have been tomany a veterans funeral.God Bless our men & women who have served and are now serving and to those who gave their life for our freedoms.God bless them all!

  • I like the old vet with his back toward the camera written on his jacket is I think Freedom cost Someone paid really . This is really a beautiful piece if work

  • Heartbreaking in its absolute truth. We owe so much to these brave men and women...and often give them so little in return. This should be shown to every school class through high school. I think many do not truly understand the sacrifices that have been made by the American servicemen and women. If this doesn't make a person think...then nothing will.

  • More Ronn Tynan, and that heart-moving new hymn, Mansions of the Lord. It is moving beyond words.

  • this is absolutly beautiful

  • spectacular! I am curious...is the Ronan Tynan solo part of the sound track of We Were Soldier in with Mansions?

thank you for posting this. I was so moved to tears. God bless you and those who serve.

  • @poemsinger

Ronan Tynan's singing is not part of the sound track of "When We Were Soldiers and Young." His recording can be prochased on his CD entitled "Ronan." His recording can also be purchased on Itunes.

  • Very powerful. Great presentation.

God Bless ALL our brave service men and women.

Thanks for sharing this with us.

We will have our Nation Back....................

  • Is there a way to purchase a DVD of this video?

  • @akalwat7

Sorry, but this DVD is not for sale. If there is a desire to show the DVD to military, veterans, church groups or others honoring our military personnel, I would be happy to send you a copy.

We did a july 4th three or four years ago that I may do again and this would be a perfect way to close the concert and ask everyone to leave in silence!

  • I am an old Viet Nam Vet. This makes me cry for all my lost buddies, and all patriotic men and women serving their country. Gob bless us all. We are never the same man or woman when we finally come back home.

  • There is no more beautiful piece of music to commemorate our sons and brothers who have fallen in battle that I know of. It brings tears to my eyes everytime I hear it...

  • Don't forget the daughters, sisters, and mothers who have given their lives for our country as well.

  • i love this music it reminds me all those heroes who died on the battlefield god bless them

  • Coming in the video at 5:10 , "Sgt. MacKenzie" was originally written by Joseph MacKenzie in tribute to his great grand father, Sgt. Charles Stuart MacKenzie of the Seaforth Highlanders, who died by bayonet in WWI while protecting a fallen soldier. Mr. Wallace heard the song and, per his request, Mr. Joseph MacKenzie rerecorded the song for the movie production.

  • Beautiful. I believe Tynan wrote the words

  • Tynan may have written the lyrics to the portion of my video that he sang. He didn't write the lyrics that the West Point Cadet Glee Club sang.

  • Is there a CD of this music?

  • The music by the West Point Military Academy Cadet Glee Club and Metro Voices is on the music CD of "When we were Soldiers and Young." The portion sung by tenor Ronan Tynan is on his CD entitled "Ronan."

  • The portion of the background music sung by tenor Ronan Tynan is on his CD entitled "Ronan." The portion sung by the the West Point ACademy Cadet Glee Club and Metro Voices is available on a CD entitled "When We were Soldiers and Young."

  • I sent this to many friends - this is one reply:

When I served in the US Army at the end of the Korean 'conflict' I was assigned to the Honor Guard at . . . Military Cemetery in TX for six months. I observed first hand the grief and heartache of loved ones required to grieve and release their departed soldier to the 'Mansions of Heaven'.

  • I'll never forget the wails and shrieks of widows and children as we came to the part when the firing squad gave the first volley. It always caught them by surprise and was a shock to a highly strung nervous system. Then the mournful playing of 'Taps' in the distance. I was a Christian then and could only silently pray for those in grief. I could only hope the mourners knew of the Resurrection.

This video awakens a lot of memories for me.

Thank you ever so much, and blessings to you, XXX

  • I want to honor for those who had died with Lord. I will see them in heaven when I come. Amen.

  • Thanks for the info Sgt. MccKenzie. You have enlightened me on this song. I got the song from the song track from the movie "When We Were Soldiers and Young" and never researched where it originally came from. You might have noticed that Ronan Tynan put an ad on my video for his song. I hope he sells many copies because of my DVD.

  • Thank you for putting together this incredibly moving, powerful video Mr. Langskov. Great combination of photos, voices, and music! Do you know the name of the man who sings four lines in the second half of the video beginning with "Lay me down in the cold cold ground"? He has a very strong accent - - Welsh? Scottish? My friends and I are all curious about who he is. We are also delighted that our favorite singer, Ronan Tynan, is featured on this video.

  • Well, here I am replying to myself. I have done some more searching on YouTube and found that the singer, who also wrote the song, is Joseph Kilna MacKenzie and it is called "Sgt. MacKenzie". The entire song can be heard on a YouTube video titled "We were Soldiers - Final Battle Scene (song Sgt. MacKenzie)". Info on Joseph Kilna MacKenzie can be found on Wikipedia and other websites and also the lyrics, which he is singing in "Scot tongue" dialect.

  • Thank you for your kind remarks. I also think the movie "When we were soldiers and young" is great movie.

  • hey brotha, awesome video, very moving..As a Soldier, it is very nice to see others showing gratitude to the Services and the USA..Just a question, where did you find Ronan Tynan singing MOTL?
