I laughed about some of the comments. In my opinion, Koblenz is one of the beatifullest cities.
There are some things that I would have shown (train station, Rittersturz, the University, our ugly football stadium from our former Second Division Club (which is my one true love by the way) and some things more...)
The yellow inscription is the logo of a local beer with long tradition ;)
Great you came to the city where I was born and where I live for 17 years...I´m so used to all the buildings that I didn´t even recognize how ugly some of them are.
Unfortunately you came when Koblenz was prepared for the Bundesgartenshow. No you can go everywhere...you only have to pay 20€ ;-/
What you filmed is pretty much the part which is now Gartenshow and the old part of the city. I think there´re more things in Koblenz which are worth a visit...but you can´t visit everything.Great video
I was there in 2005 and the statue of the unknown soldier doesnt glorify war. Its just a tribute to the german soldiers who died during the war. You still can see the holes of the bullets on the walls of the fortress and it was never conquered. A beautiful city indeed.
The fucking Cablecar System! I hate it! Everytime I walk by I wish somebody would burn it down! But it so ugly that it wouldnt burn even if you would drown it in gasoline Some of the houses in Koblenz are really missguided But it isnt that bad.! Greetings from sechundfünfzig null fünfundsiebzig, Koblenz Karthause komm her ich erschieß dich!^^ just joking :-)
Sry but I dont like, how he makes Koblenz down. He shows ugly buildings, but why he dont show the beautiul one like Löhr_center ore the Mainstation. What about the beautiful bridges?! Bad video!
I would love to hear you comment on ugly, cheap new doors in old houses. That's something that always irritates me and I wonder if you share my sentiment. Considering your attitude towards "Bausünden", I believe you might.
Andrew, if you ever manage to make your way up to these shores, ie. Finland, you should most definetily give good old Helsinki a try. Not only do we have a well-preserved Empire-style city centre, but just off the harbour is Viaborg, the Gibraltar of the North, which is arguably the best preserved offshore fort in Europe. I really enjoy your videos and always use German subtitles for your English films and vice versa, beinf the language nerd that I am. :-D
Well, here in Dresden we also have a many fine examples of worst-case architectural planning and doing. The worst of the worst, probably of the whole world, is the new Nottreppe of the Landhaus! (You find it on Wikipedia in the Dresden article, search for "Landhaus"!)
In 1992 I was in St Petersburg for a few months. It wasn't easy finding fresh food -- you had to know people who knew people, and I didn't. Went to Moscow for 2 weeks, and believe me, the new Moscow Pizza Hut was manna from heaven. They had a salad bar... with FRESH SALAD. The green stuff was stuff that was supposed to be green!
That's the only time I've ever been grateful for the chance of eating at Pizza Hut...
Solche Bausünden gibt's überall in Deutschland.
Andrew, If you ever have the chance. You should visit Fulda. It is the "Baroque City" and has been well preserved. I am sure that you will enjoy this small city.
thank you rewboss. it means a lot for me. I lived there in 90-93. I love Germany and I think your videos are great. dont ever stop doing your vids from Germany and Europa. i am from Mex. and to me Germany is the most fantastic country in Europa. How I wish I go back to Germany to visit.
anytime you're in koblenz, stop by osteria novencento. that's my aunt and uncle's restaurant and it's fantastic.

I wonder how you would review the architecture in Rotterdam.....
Having once worked in the Netherlands Architecture Institute I can say that architects have definite ideas and opinions on what can be build where.
To bad it clashes too often with the taste of us common people.

Some unfortunate architectural choices indeed.
And there's more about Pizza Hut that's distasteful than just their logo.
;-)
Nice job on these videos!
