Been an Ella fan for many many years and had heard of O'Day but never really paid attention till a couple of months ago, now she's an obsession. Can't get enough. And this is a GREAT find. Thanks for posting!! Made my night ! Her "Sing, Sing, Sing" is my absolute fave!!
I wish I'd known of her when she was alive but anyway I'm so glad I finally found about her, it's been great listening back to her, how she changed and was always so special.
Many people never heard of her before which really surprises me. She does have a unique way of delivering a song and I also find her very sexy too. Keep listening to her. :)
I'm glad you got a chance to hear and see her. She was great wasn't she? You're right she had perfect timing and not a lot of people know about her but she was fantastic. I love listening to her. Thanks for letting me know of your discovery of her.
@kemplerbrave I can't STOP listening to her . .. I am mezmerized . . . . I am a huge fan of Billie, Ella, Sarah, Dinah, Judy . . . but just never heard of Anita O'Day before . . . don't know why!!! And I find this lady so sexy . . . I've never seen anyone like her before, she just pulls me in . . . . her subtle movements, her eyes, and I love her mouth formations. I need MORE ANITA!!
man oh man, all these years what a talent I've missed , I thought ella, sarah, carmen and billie were the only voices in jazz.. man what I missed not knowing anything about ms. oday until just now. a very true talent that has her place with these ladies as well. ella stated, I read , had patterned a lot of anita's singing style to her own.
Forgot to say Anita O'Day had a great voice. My father would listen to hear quite a bit and now I know why. I was too young to appreciate it back then. She was great! Wonder how many people know about her?
@kemplerbrave I just "discovered" her last night on the Bio Channel!!!! I was dumb struck by her talent . . . what a vocalist!!f Her timing was right on the money . . . and she was sooo chic!! Where the heck have I been?
Great song. I recently saw Shawn Colvin in New York's City Winery and she sang this song. You should check it out on my site. Leave a comment why don't you. Great song once again. Do they write songs like this anymore? Heh heh.

"Why must you be mean to me?" Just feel so relaxed whenever I hear O'Day sing. Get the same feeling with Chris Conner.

@doreennewman Those names you mentioned are definitely great. Just keep an open ear. There are lots and lots of great musicians out there back then.
