  • I was a torchbearer and they showed this video on the shuttle bus before we ran with the torch. It was really inspirational and I loved it. Plus I love the song it's so beautiful and inspirational. I really like this video =)

  • hey when was this video made, if you know by any chance because I need tto site this video for my school Social Studies FAIR Thanks

  • the most extraordinary thing out of this torch relay i accomplished was the PEOPLE..the fans were awesome....in the early hours of the morning...thousands came out of no where. the BEST experience i had so far.

  • HI! im a torchbearer and am doing a presentation about the torch relay. do you know where i can get a copy of this video? i tried taking this one off the web but its too blurry!

  • @MrSchedules Hello there, this video is the only one around, I don't think you can download it anywhere. However, if you want, I could send you the original video file via email if you wish to send me your email address in a private message. But the quality of this video on YouTube is the best you're going to get. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

  • This was effectively the unofficial song and video for VANOC staff members. We watched this during our induction and it came up at different intervals.

I am such a pussy, I don't even try to hold the tears back anymore when I watch this video.

I have had the best, most amazing 12 months of my life working on the Olympics and this tune will always remain close to my heart and serve as a reminder of my time in Vancouver and with VANOC.

  • Great story! The whole point of this video was to start the water works without even really caring. The Olympics was something that brought all Canadians alike together. I have signed up as a volunteer at London 2012 'cause I've heard so much great stuff about Vancouver 2010 Volunteering. Thanks for watching!

  • Is this an official video or did U2Uber2121 make it?

  • Ok thanks. It's a really beautiful video.

  • i saw this on the bus after i carried the torch

  • malditos pesimistas pr q opinan mal. es un video con un buen mensaje

  • all i can say is great

    tellallpsychic . com

  • awesome video@@@

  • Do any of the nay sayers ever look at the big picture? ya the world has gone to S**T - but the olympics offers a stage for Most nations to come together through competition. Athletes who have persevered throughout their entire lives, should be an inspiration. Canada being the host nation is very fitting in my opinion, as we pride ourselves on acceptance and multiculturalism which will become increasingly important through the years as the global economy becomes more interdependent

  • FUCK THE OLYMPICS!!! We are going to be paying for this for at least the next 20 years in our taxes. Just like Expo 86...Everything including the cost of living went up. Same concept applies here. Think about it: We have the olympic clock, trucking snow to cypress, athletes village, new police vehicles for the motorcade, cost of torches, hydraulic cauldron, building bobsled race track, gas, etc, etc, etc...Waste of tax money.

  • This is to all the negative people out there who always see the glass half empty no matter what the circumstances are.I am an 100% Aboriginal who got to be a flame attendant throughout all of Ontario. All four host first nations out in B.C. are all supporting this. I am supporting this!!!Let's go Canada!

  • The 1936 Nazi Games legacy arrives in Vancouver and we celebrate without question... Coldplay you suck

  • @rockerbiff please don't be such a fucking idiot.

  • Each time i see this Video i Cry. I Cry!

I carried the torch and i just can't believe

that this Olympic Flame is big enough to enlight a Country And Enlight my heart!

  • Wow!! Nicely done! I loved the Calgary segments in there! They should have allowed Womens ski jumping in the Olympics-I mean how dumb!! They coulda had specific requirements that they wear bikinis only while jumping! I need a beer. Just no ordinary beer: A Granville Island beer people! Go Canada go! I hope Betty Fox lights the Caulderon!

  • Some thoughts.

Positives: Olympic Hockey. Free Concerts. Canada winning lots of medals. And lots of beer, lots and lots of beer.

Negatives: Massive cost overruns for a 17 day event. Massively reduced profit projections, meaning these games will loose taxpayers money. Also, considering how controversial the games are (69% of BCians think we're spending too much on them and only 50% of BCians support them) it was really dumb to include Riefenstahl footage. Also, this song isn't very inspiring.

  • Did anybody notice the cloud of pollution generated by the motorized convoy trailing the torch relay? Or the fact that one of the closing sports highlighted (so in a premium, very memorable position) was ski-jumping, in which women are not allowed to compete? (Even tho they compete in weightlifting and wrestling.)

  • Ahhhhhhhh... I just love how people freak out over nothing. :) I agree with a few posters here. If people didn't know the used clips were from where they are from, there would be no problem.

We all know that VANOC is not supporting Nazi propaganda (to make such a claim is just absolutely idiotic), and is rather just using the clips for their historical purposes pertaining to the fact that Berlin 1936 Olympics was the beginning of the torch relay and nothing more; (CONT...)

  • (...CONT) not the past and long-dead political ties to the relay of 1936.

So to all you out there over-exaggerating this situation, drop it, let it go, and move on with your lives. It isn't hurting anyone, and shouldn't for that matter. If you are offended by this video you are far too easily offended and need to get over that.

I for one cannot wait until the Olympics are here, as I will for sure be watching them intently from start to finish.

GO CANADA GO! VANCOUVER 2010 in 6 days! :D

  • I find it funny that the people who are defending the use of this nazi footage as it is part of history also don't believe in the holocaust.

  • Let me get this thing right... In Canada and most of the Westren world, we are NOT allow to critizse Isreal for its terrorism and WE ARE NOT allow to look at the history in a diffrent prespective than what the Jews want us to follow? WOW, I am from South Asia, and how come I can make fun of white race in Canada, and get way with it, but not make fun of Jews?

Now that's should be racism itself! If Islamic terrorism is a NOT religious hate, then Jew terrorisom should not be one either!

  • No one is stopping you from critisizing Israel or jews. I cannot critisize muslims because I would probably be killed by one of them. You also don't have to believe in the holocaust, though any rationale person would know that it did happen with the ammount of proof out there. South Asian muslims need to remmber that Hitler and his nazis viewd south asians as sub human and used them as salve labour and eventually had plans for their extermination.

  • the Nazis were the ones who brought back the torch relay, are we just supposed to forget our past? or pretend like it didn't happen?

  • No, you are not to forget the past. However you should not include footage of a regime that is fundementally the opposite of the multicultural makeup of Canada and the olympic spirit of inclusion of all people around the world. In the opening ceremony should we dispaly Canada's murder and torture of first nations since it is such an integral part of the birth of canada? Though so.

  • Only reason I'm "defending" the footage is because the 1936 Olympics was the beginning of the torch relay it would make sense to show footage of the first flame... that is all nothing more. And about this whole first nations thing... I said not to forget our past, but this video is about the torch relay, not the birth of Canada. Chill out.

  • @quiksilverrules14 If you read the history of Canada ask the Jews of that time who were sent back to Germany by Canada and then talk about Canada's multiculteral makeup> There is nothing wrong with including that footage of the first relay even though it was in Germany, they started the tradidtion and should be recognized for it. I am the son of WW2 airman and grandson of a WW1 soldier.

  • Anyone else pumped to see some olympic hockey!!

  • That's bull that people were making a serious fuss over this video.

The first time I watched it, and nearly every time after, I get weepy cause it's SO powerful.

  • How do you think Hitler was so popular? powerful propoganda

  • I agree with you 100% Matt!

  • What a moving, hauntingly beautiful video. Vancouver is going to show the world that it is WORLD CLASS and they have done a wonderful job. But remember you cannot please everyone. If you try, you please no one.

  • The 1936 torch run is part of history....is real....get over it!

  • Coldplay suck ass.

  • Ha! Nazi clips in this supposedly inspirational video! Haha!

  • Vanoc fucks up again with the Nazi Relay Remix

  • This video sure makes one thing clear: Coldplay sounds like a mewing old tabby cat with kidney failure.

  • Yes you are correct the torch RELAY was introduced at the '36 Berlin Games. However, the tradition of the flame which this video is truly all about because if there was no flame there would simply be no relay. The Flame goes back to ancient Greece and was re-introduced in the 1928 Summer Games in Amsterdam.

  • It's simple, Canada (and other host nations) should not send athletes to future games until we've paid off this one.

We'd be into our children's children before Canada took a shot at "the gold" again. Who wants to host next?

The olympics are not worth it. It should be played in one place every year, and completely funded by all participating countries, with no corporate sponsors. They just advertise fast-food and sugar-water as we watch tv instead of participating in sports ourselves.

  • fuck who gives a shit if those clips are in it. i bet half of you wouldnt have recognized them anyways without being told what they were from. get over it. the torch is a great tradition!!!!

  • The point is that it was stupid to run the Nazi propaganda clips, especially considering it was the same Nazi propagandist who INVENTED the 'torch run' as a propaganda tool. Look for yourself. There was no torch run before the nazi owelympics. But keep posting those pro-Owelympic comments. I'll be busy working to pay off the $9 billion debt we're left with. Not to mention homelessness, cuts to health care and education, all those things that are unimportant compared to that Owelymic emotion

  • Learn how to spell it. It's "Olympics." I don't even know where you got the "w."

  • I dont understand what people's issue is here, they just have to have something to complain about. This video helped me realize what an honour it was to have the Olympic Flame in my hands = ) Great Video !

  • The video represents the Olympic Flame and the journey it has made to all the Olympic Games, so who cares if they included the Berlin Games get over it.

  • Exactly jayman21594! Well said! Thank you!

  • I agree! The tradition was established during the Nazi regime, so we don't like that, but it is part of the history of the torch relay! So accept it everybody!

  • The point people are commenting on is that the torch never had a relay to any olympic games until the Nazis took it there in '36. They invented that tradition, which the olympic committees have since decided is a good one. That's history, and its important, but it's not one that I'd trumpet if I was promoting the games.

I've been telling people the origin of the torch for a while, but I'm opposed to the games. Bad PR choice on their part I'd say, and they deserve any criticism they get.

  • Footage from Nazi propaganda films to promote 2010 Olympic Games! Nice touch, Canada!

  • Not only that but they've altered them by removing the straight armed salute.

  • I wonder if Coldplay or their corporate labels know their music is in a video with Nazi footage in it?

I'd think they'd be pissed off.

  • retard, its a blur, u cant even see it without knowing its there.

  • Aren't there some shots of the Berlin games in there?

  • There are. Those shots are from the Nazi propaganda film "Olympia" opps

  • play a canadian band next time

  • What's wrong with Coldplay? They're awesome, and this is quite possibly the most beautiful and inspirational song I've ever heard. Why does it matter where the band is from?

  • Nothing wrong with Coldplay Polishaisdown. I wonder if London will produce a promotional video for their Olympics featuring inspiring music from

    Canada.

  • @pdautg That would be great!

  • Awesome

  • Dawson Creek Jan. 31st... Cannot wait!

  • whever i see something beautiful or hear someone singing who has an amazing voice it sends shivers all over my body. this is amazing. most shivers i've ever gotten. i wish i could have been a torch barer. i had the oppertunity to enter the contest but i past it up . :( big mistake

  • Cool video

  • I've seen this video twice before, once at a Torch Relay briefing and again at the celebration itself, and it still gets to me.

  • ColdPlay>U2

  • Canadian torch relay sure is more peaceful than the bejing one. Go Canada!

  • My teacher showed my class this and it brought me tears. Its great that nations gather together to celebrate something that will be history forever. Right now I'm doing a school project about the 2002 olympics in Salt Lake City. This is probobly the best olympic video i've seen on youtube. And i'm happy for anyone who carried the olympic torch.

  • omg im so excited the torch is gonna be in my city today! yay giant party!

  • I LOVE THIS VIDEO! it was shown at my school and an overwhelming sense of Canadian Pride and excitement came over me bringing a tear to my eye!

  • Were you able to get a copy of it, I am looking to show it at my kids' school where they can't access video on the internet? Suggestions?

  • no, but there is one way to do it. there is something called the youtube downloader and it is a free application for all types of computers and you can take the video off the web and make it into a video file on your hard drive.

  • Who is that at 2:08??? This video is getting me so pumped for my leg of the run! February 11 on the corner of Manitoba street and 37 th street to house 66 in Vancouver. Can't wait!!!!!!!

  • I don't think she is anyone notable other than an awesome 1988 Winter Olympics Torchbearer! Enjoy your torch relay! Mine was on November 13th in Newfoundland. Enjoy every single second of it and embrace the flame. The minute the flame is lit and high above your head, you get an overpowering felling like none other. Good luck!

  • 1:33 wait what?

  • this is actually so cool

  • omg.... my music teacher showed us this video in music class last week.....totally burning inside me right now.....

  • I just watched this video yesterday, on the torchbearers' shuttle to Dugald, Manitoba. And yes, I had tears in my eyes. Great song, beautiful images, and incredibly inspiring. Shoutout to Billy, Russ, and my 6 companion torchbearers. What a privilege!

  • Fantastic video!

  • I just carried the olympic torch (dec 31st day 63) they played this video on the torch bearer shuttle and it brought me to tears same with everyone in the shuttle. It was just so moving to know I was about to carry a symbol that has so much meaning, so much motivation and hope for so many people and young athletes. It's a sign of unity, goodfaith, joy and peace between nations and has inspired so many people. You can't help but get emotional just being near it. I was so honoured and humbled by it

  • @xemooleex That bus ride was extremely emotional, to say the least.. :)

  • lol it sounds funny at the beginning when he says when your high up above

  • I carried the flame on day 40th at dawn and I've been knocked down by an emotional tsunami.

The emotion was so intense that I fell in tears once back home.

I'm pretty sure that Im not alone in that situation.

  • @218923241 I'm sure you're not. I saw it pass by in Newmarket on day 50 and just seeing it for a few seconds was emotional.

  • This gave me goosebumps! Truly amazing!

  • i carried it in Cornwall on monday! omg it was amazing! i cna't describe it. This song always brings tears to my eyes. it was jus beyond amazing =')

  • Incredible video. I love it! they just played part of this video tonight in Montreal at it's final stop. It was amazing!

  • amazing video done by the olympic organizers! lets all hope that Terry Fox's mother gets to light the flame! this'll also help get Terry's message to millions of viewers!

  • So much emotional!

I carried the Olympic Flame yesterday and now, the Flame will be burning in my heart forever! Best day of my life! When we had a meeting between the Instructors and Torchbearers, i felt like if we were sort of a FAMILY! And we are. We are an Olympic Family. Thank's Vancouver 2010 for this wonderful day!

  • pretty good video

"As the Olympic torch relay begins its 100 day journey through Canada, with over 12,0000 Canadians receiving an opportunity to carry the symbol of "peace, goodwill and athletic vigor" it is worth acknowledging that the Olympic torch relay was a brainchild of Nazi Germany.

Simply put there was not an Olympic Torch Relay before the Berlin Games in 1936.

  • @222Miller You've posted this stupidity on so many Olympic videos it's ridiculous. Just fuck off. Nobody cares about your nonsense. You're worse than protestors on the streets. At least them you can walk up to and have a word with. You're just some name on the internet. Fuck off with this shit.

  • Listen, my intention was never to offend anyone. It is worth noting that many people are indeed interested in this fact and have messaged me saying how they had never known this truth. If YOU are offened thats your issue, but you should ask yourself why this truth bothers YOU so much. Furthermore I really liked your video and I thought you did a great job on it. Also, I am not protesting. Like many I too enjoy the Olympics.

  • @222Miller Listen idiot. Was the first every torch relay for the '36 Olympics in berlin? Yes. Was it a political move by the Nazi party? Probably. Does that have anything to do with any subsequent torch relay? Absolutely not. By putting quotations around "peace, goodwill and athletic vigor" you are implying that somehow the current torch relay does not symbolize these things. It absolutely does, ragardless what the purpose was 73 years ago. Symbols evolve. So, once again. Fuck off.

  • Your comments are very malicious and YOU have truly demonstrated the vile spirit of those in history and today who preach Peace and Goodwill, but inside are truly wolves. I was pretty much apologizing for any offence my first post had caused YOU. As for the quotations, they are not used by the author to claim the torch is or is not a symbol of these things TODAY, but instead help pose questions to the reader. To think as it were.

  • Furthermore, I suspect the torch (flame) has esoteric symbolism attached to it. You may not acknowledge it , but many do

  • @222Miller And who are these many? Again, you make claims that you don't corroborate. Have you interviewed people? Had conversations with people? Read studies pertaining to individuals' beliefs about the torch relay (and the discussion here is the relay, not the flame itself, so stop side-tracking yourself)? I'll make the claim that many people do NOT believe that the flame has esoteric symbolism attached to it. Why do your claims have any more merit than mine?

    PS. Wolf? lmao.

  • Merry Christmas man....Like I said before no intention on upsetting you. Take care and have a great New Year.

  • @222Miller Merry Christmas!

  • @222Miller I am a wolf? lmao. And malicious? Wow, you're an even bigger idiot than I thought. Are you 13 and posting stuff you read in your dad's copy of the Socialist Republic? Malice implies causing harm or distressed. If you are harmed and/or distressed by being called an idiot (which you are) and being told to get your stupid propaganda off of these videos (which you should) then wow.

  • @222Miller And what the hell does it matter what the torch relay meant to the Nazi Party? I'm sure the Nazis interpreted a lot of things in ways that we no longer do today. What's the point of tarnishing the symbology of the flame now by thinking about what the Nazi's thought about it 70 years ago?

  • i was picked to carry the torch for my school!!!!!!! i cant wait its coming dec 19

  • I ran today, it's an experience you will never forget...cherish it.

  • My Facebook picture is me holding the Olympic Torch beside on of the relaying peoples

  • Congratulations to everyone carrying the torch! I carried it 2 days ago and the experience is overwhelming and almost un-describable. And thank you to all of you coming out to support the torchbearers! Without you, the experience would not be the same!

  • I LOVE THIS VIDEO !!!! cant wait for the rorch to come to my school Novemeber 18!!!! wish i could run with it! You are all really lucky!! this video is soo emotional though. I was watching it in class and everone had goosebumb. =D
