A great song. War leave no winners. Just men and woman left with haunting memories.Just contractors making money off the blood of the young people of the USA.
@endracismguy No that would be spartans but I do feel bad about all the innocents that had to die im not proud of that but I am proud the there are men in the world that fight for their country.
@Marinesofairsoft1121 no not at all americans all find glory in war even if a soldier trips over and shoots him self accidently he is instantly considered a hero true or false ,the evidence is on here every american war video has the hero word attached to it
@masterchiefer123 no i dont hate the US soldiers but i do hate free for all murder that goes unpunished and i cant understand soldiers strutting around with a chest full of medals and treated like heroes when they have murdered innocents its a sick world and as you claim your country is no1 then you are the sickest
I served with the 101st Abn in Nam. 2 of my sons served in Iraq . I thought maybe when I left Nam my children would have a free 'no war' mind. Oh, how the masterminds of war would continue.
The thing about war is that we never learn, it's the ones who server that always say "No to war" so unless you have been there you have not earned the right to talk about it, unless you bled and were there to hear your friends call their moms and take the last breath you have not earned the right. "he and 22 of his men were killed in an ambush" (0.11). and, once i was a soldier...... US army in vietnam, 1969-1970. i have probably seen all the vietnam movies but this song and this documentary, is the one that will always bring vietnam back to me. "he and 22 of his men were killed in an ambush". it still sucks and always will suck. for me, vietnam won't die, until i die. my deepest regrets to all who say they lost someone to vietnam. i honor their service forever!
Look on the bright side. The 'good guys' (the Vietnamese) successfully ambushed a patrol of the invader forces, whose function was to beat them down into colonial or imperial slavery. Now Vietnam is a peaceful & moderately prosperous nation, moving towards democracy. Their struggle should be an inspiration to all freedom & democracy loving people throughout the world. Including many Americans, esp, some few servicemen who can see the truth of what that was all about.
I thought Viet Nam was my war. Lost friends. Boys made old too soon. But now I have a son who has served in Iraq 2x and who knows what else is in his future. May we never forget our soldiers.................
I thought Viet Nam was my war. Lost friends. Boys made old too soon. But now I have a son who has served in Iraq 2x and who knows what else is in his future. May we never forget our soldiers.................
My war was Viet Nam. I lost friends, saw the scars on the boys who did come home and lived in the world that had the power to change but gave up or gave in when we were almost there. Because of my generations failure or weakness, my son served in Iraq 2x and who knows what is in his future. Our greatest failure would be to forget the soldiers............Let us remember so maybe they will not see their son's fight in another war. Viet Nam should not have happened....Lets stop this insanity.
Thank you sir and God Bless your courage and patriotism. My father was in Vietnam War 1968-1969. He is alive, but still has scars (body and mind) from that awful hell on earth.
@busterbone.... thanks. based on your fathers memories, it is i.... as a matter of fact, all of us..... who should give him thanks for his service to his country. it was a unjust war indeed but we had no choice. we who served in vietnam just live with what we live with.
Respect to the guys who fought, but it was a terrible wasterful war, 58,000 killed countlesss wounded and for what even now it's so very tragic, just like the idiot wars we are still fighting, just my humble opinion.

Hate the war and those starting it but NEVER HATE the warrior fighting it.
I lost my brother to Viet Nam. As a kid, he was my idol and my best pal.
In 1982 I was able to attend the Vietnam Memorial Dedication with a very good friend and a Vet.
I found 'my name' on the wall, my idol, my best pal. Crouching there crying, I realized a hand on my shoulder. My good friend doesn't talk about his time in 'Nam as a chopper medic helped me live with my loss.
God people stop trashing these men, they have gone through hell and back and DON'T need people talking shit about them. Dont u think theyve gone through enough?...These are our boys who were fighting for our country and yet some assholes think theyre larger than live to spit on these men
Does no one hear the music? All little snipers can't hear the beating of the heart for the guns and angry words....Listen to the song's words...Young men should not go to war. Old men should be made to fight if they want the profit from blood.
this is what happens when liberals are in charge. America who fought so gallently to free vietnam from communism is fucked over by the democrats who cut off funding to our troops and even though we won every battle. we left in disgrace. and yet they want to do that very same thing in Iraq today. a country we have delivered freedom to.installing democracy to people who live in the 7th century is a must if we ever want to one day be rid of terrorism.
omfg, nixon was president when we left yes but the congress was controlled by the liberal democrats and they cut funding. and it was Johnson who quit on the troops.nixon only pulled out the troops because he could get the funding from congress. you should learn your history lesson
No get you're facts right. Before congress cut funding to the troops in vietnam which that was in 73 Nixon already withdrew some troops from south vietnam. Now if congress funded south vietnam then the war would of lasted longer and more american troops would of died.
U.S. forces started withdrawing from Vietnam in 69 under the policy called vietnamization, and the republicans joined in. Now there was a proposed bill by a N.Y Rep that set a deadline of U.S. troops withdraw by dec 70, and congress cut funding in 73. Now i tell you i do know my history. I made a book report on vietnam in 8th grade..
I've spent 2 years in marine corp r.o.t.c and learned some more about vietnam, and 15 years in the marine corp to learn some more about U.S. and world history. So do i need to learn my history? No because i know plenty... If u know so much you would of gotten you're facts straight.
what does spending time in the marines have to do with anything. I lived through the war. and was in front of the tv every night with my dad. watching it unfold. while both of my older brothers were there.BORI is obviously drinking the marksist kool-aid and will never see the truth . and want to blame the republicans. the only thing America did wrong there was not go all out to win. the troops did their job. the politicians and the american people let them down. end of story.
Spending time in the marines we learned U.S. and world history like i told you before, the problem with you rep is that you people are to brain washed to see the truth. Nixon withdrew troops out of vietnam starting in 69, and congress cut fundings in 73. Much respect to you're brothers for serving.
You lived threw it but you didn't have you're facts straight huh... Get this straight Nixon starting withdrawing troops in 69, and fundings was cut in 73. Go look up Vietnamization and you would see what happen in 69 first 25,000 troops which Nixon called a mutual withdraw, secret bombing in cambodia ordered by you're rep pres. Open you're eyes!!!! Don't go ahead and put all the blame on dem.
Modern Vietnam is for the most part capitalist, with the main industry there being tourism. That's what makes the Vietnam War so tragic. The guys we see in this video should be getting ready to have grandchildren, but instead they're dead. And for what?
Lord, this is the most moving & compelling film I've seen on Vietnam...& this song by Tim Buckley reduces me to tears. Eric Roberts does the wonderful voiceover.
To..whodmanidman..welcome back from Iraq, I too served and fought in Vietnam back in 64/66 the War is and will always be part of you as it is for me, those who who are given a second chance in life carry the memories forever so we can speak for those who didn't make it, to try and never let wars take our love ones, ever!
what was this documentry called i saw it years ago when i was a kid been looking out for it ever after but have never found it on dvd or vid. anyone know where i can find a copy.
I was nine when this vidio came out on HBO. I watched it with my grandfather who was a liberator pilot in the 15th army air corp WW2 and my uncle who was 101st air bourne Vietnam. Even at nine years old this vidio impacted me in a way I can't discribe. I now have it on DVD and I still to this day have a hard time watching it without a lump in my thought. Go bless America Our flag and all the men who died to protect it.
I came home from Iraq a little over a year ago, and I can't help but searching for conflict. I try to let go of thoughts, but for some reason keep searching for reason and I came across this video from something I remeber watching as a kid. I don't know maybe there is no ending, but I will never forget.
search youtube for 'Tet Offensive & Khe Sahn vietnam War footage'
A longer clip (though song is incomplete) is found here to get the narration just prior to the song. The young officer's letter talks about his feelings and hope including his confidence of making it out alive, just before going out on patrol and getting killed. Combined it makes this the second most touching moment in the documentary. The most choking was a mother's tribute at the end of the film.
i don't know how youtube works, but is it possible that you could alter some tags or whatever, so that this site would come up early in someone's search? am i making sense? i only came across it after a really long search. people need to see it; they need to be reminded of what's going on in the world--that life for some is very difficult if not painfull and that we need to reach out to help.

search youtube for 'Tet Offensive & Khe Sahn vietnam War footage'
