This is the best stuff to listen to for nighttime driving and long, cool, road trips. In fact, Word Jazz got me from Alaska to Louisiana. Long trip, great memories of driving around strange towns looking for little roadside motels at midnight. Good times :-)
My father used to put headphones on me as a child and play the word jazz "boxed set" of cassettes from National Public Radio. I still have them ....what a trip.....
Ken, in high school my friend had a tape of a guy talking to himself about how his mother got him started on the stuff. A high voice is asking him questions. 80 cups a day. 80??? Much more than 80! I have been looking for it for a while now - possibly the funniest thing I've heard in my life. Can you enlighten me as to the title? Or possibly post it? All the best, keep on keeping on.
I vaguely remember doing the addictive coffee bit. Have to do a word search of the stack of word jazz I've done, could be up there in the archival attic. If I find it, I'll letcha know.
YAS!!! I believe your work and Alan Watts gave my brain and soul a much-needed stretch in a little middle class neighborhood in Portland Or, circa 1976........
It's 6am and I can't think of a better way to welcome a new day. It's like you've borrowed into the furthest reaches of my mind and extracted the rhythms of thought only I rarely find. I thought there was someone in there!
I can't believe I found you here! A dear friend turned me on to Word Jazz in college a few years back...okay, nearly 30 years ago. I used to stay up till 5 am on Sunday mornings so I could hear (and tape) your show on KUT in Austin. I still have those old cassettes somewhere...along with several CDs I've picked up over the years. Listening to you in the dark is a special pleasure for me - thanks so much!!
Wow, I did the same exact thing (late 70s early 80s) except I lived in a housing co-op one block west of the Drag at UT with 36 people so I would turn it on Sunday morning for the whole house to hear when they came down for breakfast, at least the early risers or the ones just going to bed. I wish I could buy all of Nordine's material on digital media. Is it available somewhere? I remember "Pushups, pushups and jogging" with the background voice on one segment...Nordine is a genius!
yup. Coffee percolates thru my brain every morning, washing away the remnants of lactic acid, filtering into whatever the limbic is getting a grip on. thanks for the applause...
25 fuckin years Ive been trying to remember who the hell it was that freaked me out in the middle of the night when I was really high and had the old dial turned far to the left on the FM....FINALLY!!!!!!!
IT WAS/IS YOU!!!!!!!! 25 years with an itch on my brain that could be scratched and friggin Youtube pays off. Apologies for losting and founding you. Send me a signed photo and I'll hand it right next to the one Ive got of Mike Leigh and then when someone asks who he is theyll also get a quick orientation on you. I'll be listening Sir!

What are binaural ear phones? I though you could use any head phones for the binaural effect? Does this actually use binaural technology?
