When I stopped drinking coffe(lAvazza) a year ago within a week I could train for 4 hours on the bike, prior to that after 2 hours training I would get eye problems and mouth sores/ulcers. since then I've gone from 15 stone down as low as 12 stone 8. I'm 13 now and largely very strong, though I am occasionally worn out and just do nothing for a few days. I also gave up caffeine in tea in february, now it is decaf only.
I wish my doctor would tests free t3, t4, and thyroid antibodies. I asked her to but she said it won't change how she treats me.
I have been diagnosed/on medication for 5 months now and feel way better but still don't have the energy I used to. I still can't run or work out hard. But atleast I can do daily things. I also feel like my immune system has gone down, when I get a cold now it hits me a lot harder and for longer. I'm only 26 too.
I wish I could cure myself of hypothyroidism... I'm doing everything I can and we'll see.
How do you know if you have deficiencies of certain vitamins or minerals? Can blood tests show that? I'de like to try acupuncture for it but don't have the money right now.
my doctor just says maybe your eating too much or well your not fat...don't worry! but he doesn't know what i'm going through! my colesterol level is very high too! i'm a vegan ( don't eat soy because of the thyroid)! now my doctor wants me to take pills for high colesterol that just does not make sense to me why don't they work on the thyroid!i don't wanna be eating all these pills my whole life !i am so frustrated! i don't know what to do..i really wish you'd live in germany ...
@37mamak That's because most doctors like to run unnecessary tests to try to get money off of you. Tell them to test your thyroid or you'll take your services elsewhere. I'm going through the same problem right now, good luck to you.
hey i love your videos. i'm sitting here crying because i don't seem to get better. i'm 18 years old i used to be a sporty and thin girl.nowadays i am still not fat...but i'd love to loose 5 kg. i can't ! if i would eat in a normal way i would be fat! i gain about 3 kg a week if i eat my recommended amount of calories ( 1900 i think) i'm so frustrated i know it's just weight but i can't look at myself anymore!!! i eat about 200 calories a aday and then i sometimes binge eat and purge..
Im being sent to an endocrinologist because my blood test came back showing my thyroid hormones are too low. She said my results 0.34 and the cut off of the normal range is 0.35. I keep hearing people talk about normally diagnoses if their blood tests show up as over 3 or 5. So if mine is way lower than that what does that mean?
Also, he mentions using a sauna to eliminate toxins but another video on the thyroid said to not overheat 'cause it hinders thyroid function.
but what if yer a ectomorph whos want to gain a little weight but seems to be more difficult than it should be? is that just a lack of nutrient absorption? or is it a need for certain type of amino acid /protein balance intake change? one time i took one charcoal pill and felt wwwwaaayyy better within a few hour and it lasted for a few days,
If someone does have an a under-active thyroid would they still get brittle hair/nails, kinda yellowish skin and/or weight gain? Is it possible to not have these symptoms but also have a thyroid problem?
Dr. Hyman speaks the truth. The problem is most people are lking for the miracle pill, and Big Pharma is lking for the miracle profit. Most folks don't want to give up their toxins (processed foods/ sugars/ GMOs, etc), so they get sicker and sicker. The only people I have met that get better are the ones that change their diet and start exercising. The ones on dugs get sicker and sicker, and never get cured.
Its funny the way people eat total shit of a diet and one by one the body parts go.They have to get "diagnosed" and improve their diet/lifestyle slightly to eleviate the symptoms of that problem untill the next part goes.etc etc.Even worse some docs perscribe drugs as a solution!Madness. Why not just have perfect diet/exercise/lifestyle right now without getting diagnosed.
Fluoride and Chlorine will block the thyroid receptors. Given the fact both elements are put in the water of most Americans to keep them "healthy", hyperthyroidism isn't an coincidence in America. Fluoride is the most dangerous.
hi ..hmmm i have a sister and shes 16 yrs old now and she has a hypothyroidism and base on what i had observed she cant talk, cant walk and shes small and she act like a baby ,shes always drooling, having difficulty of bowel ,and shes small, How will i take care of her, i hope u can help me ..what would be the best food i will give to her......pls help me i want to take care of my sister ,im always search what would the best for those who suffer hypothyroidism.....tnx
@tiarnan76 me too! One of the main reasons I decided to get my thyroid checked was because of one of his videos. I was glad I did- Hypo with a TSH of 17.9! Already starting to feel better on the Armour Thyroid he mentioned.
Topherlinc the same thing is happening to me. I was told yesterday by my Doc that I had low thyroid-hypothyroidism but have the hyperthyroidism sysmptoms as in no weight gain and a couple of others. The thing is that I have gain only a couple of pounds and thats because Im pregnant. I feel really bad because now is when I should be healthy for my child :-(
I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism when i was 8. My TSH level is 5 and Its so weird cuz i have the symptoms of HYPERthyroidism. i am 5'11 140lbs, my heart has a really heavy heartbeat that moves my body, palipitations, i tend to stare off into space a lot, no weight gain, insomnia, neverousness, anxiety and fatigue. Why is this? I barely have any Hypothyroid symptoms but yet i have had many test done and i do infact have Hypothyroid.
@topherlinc - sounds to me like you are ADHD, being hyper and staring off into space. Do a search on Adult ADHD and see if these are descriptive of you.
me 2 i have no symptoms only severe insomnia, heart palpitations, anxiety and i stare off into space a lot i feel like a zombie cant remember anything cant focus.

hello, i have a suspicion that i have thyroid issues. my hair is thinning(im still in my 20's) my finger and toenails are thinning and have practically stopped growing, i have no energy and feel weak and major fatigue, my mind doesnt seem to work right, real foggy minded. head aches. it began when i was pregnant about 2 1/2 yrs ago and has gotten worse. is there anyway to cure this naturally? without meds
At least you can get a test quite easily for this condition in America, but here in Australia getting a test for Hypothyroidism is nigh on impossible!!! I haven't been able to find anyone that will do it, its #@$@%@! frustrating!!
Getting hypothyroidism corrected was life changing for me. Finding a doctor took me 10 years. I highly recommend Mark Starr''s book and Holtorf Medical Center (2 offices in CA) in you need help.
2 books I recommend to patients: Hypothyroidism Type 2 by Mark Starr M.D. and The Thyroid Solution by Ridha Arem. The second book focuses on the connection between hypothyroidism and mood disorders such as depression/manic depression. Doctors should add Safe Uses of Cortisol by William Jefferies M.D. If cortisol levels are low you can't optimize thyroid function.
No wonder cause 1 and 2. I was fat and my doctor was like "Your fat that your cause" But then I got check and I have type 1, im loosing wieght slowly and I am eating the same.
I had my fillings removed not to long ago and I can definitely say that my "silver fillings" were the true cause. If you have hypothyroidism and have "silver fillings" I highly suggest you to look into it.
I went to my doctor because I was feeling fatigued and had a blood test done. The doctor told me I had an elevated TSH level so I decided to look on to this. The sad thing is that people are having to be on pills for the rest of their life because doctors don't want to help you just put you on synthyroid for the rest of your life.
Mercury poisoning is linked with hypothyroidism. If you have amalgam fillings or silver fillings, which are on average 50% mercury you should look into that.
EXCELLENT AND WELL PRESENTED! Thank you for the time and energy you put into this video Dr. Hyman. I have learned a great deal. I look forward to more of your info.

Thyroid stimulating exercise (of which theres no such thing)? Saunas? Heat? Is he kidding?
His implication that Armour Thyroid is a majic pill for weight-loss is one reason why that drug might go off the market.
Actually, what he says is quite sound. He's not saying he there is a 'thyroid stimulating exercise', he's saying exercise potentiates the body's use of thyroxine. Sauna's have been used (and recognised) since Roman times as a way to release toxins from the body. Good nutrition and suppliments are something that everyone can benefit from. And I didn't get any implication of him pushing Amour at all. It all seems very sensible advice.
Wow!! Dr. Hyman ,i learned quite a bit in a few minutes.I too, have hypothyroidism.I had the radio active iodine drink 15 years ago. I am on Levoxthyrine. This guy is the clown from the yoga center. Hell diagnose to the same level youre able to pay the more you shell out, the more illnesses hell come up with.
Notice he brings other issues into the picture, like gluten. Probably, he doesnt have the adequate license to diagnose/treat thyroid and has to divert attention.
Comes out with wacky things like thyroid stimulating exercise there's no such thing. Plus exaggerates - the county fair survey never used the term suffering.
Gluten intolerance is an autoimmune disease. If you have one autoimmune disease you're likely to get others. Like autoimmune thyroid diseases. So gluten and thyroid problems *are* linked.
This guy is like me, he is laughing his ass off for no reason ahahah pretty informative for a goofy doc, I guess im gunna end up like him soon after med school lol
From what I hear, you will become permanently hypothyroid, since the gland will not be there to produce ANY thyroid hormones. I read this on a couple of forums where there were people who had this done.
Oh, ok. Now, I know where this answer came from. Disreguard that last question. That's VERY sad how, these people develop other complications while, trying to correct one! Smh..
Thank you so much for sharing this. I wish more doctors would know and share this type of information. One reason I decided I did not want to go to medschool was because of the Medical Industry. Just the fact that it is an industry that I do not support bothers me greatly.
I hope you will share more beneficial information.
I have a question though: when someone is currently taking medicine for their thryoid problem, how should they move to a more natural way of healing it?
love the video man

This is good advice, but medication will be the last option for me because ven the "natural" hormone replacement comes from pigs. Filthyass pigs.

No - it comes from cows, not pigs.

Actually it does come from pigs, which have a thyroid most similar to humans.

I had mine removed.

how do you feel?

Can you actually remove your thyroid without having any future complications???

From what I hear, you will become permanently hypothyroid, since the gland will not be there to produce ANY thyroid hormones. I read this on a couple of forums where there were people who had this done.

Really? How does a person develop permanent hypothyroism?
Thanks.

Oh, ok. Now, I know where this answer came from. Disreguard that last question. That's VERY sad how, these people develop other complications while, trying to correct one! Smh..
Thanks. ;-)

Thanks.
