I was just wondering, if I were to not cut off the excess rows/columns or paper, what would happen? Would the edge of the model just not be clean, or will the actual construction be more difficult?
@lamyeenam You can either fold a 32 by 32 grid and cut 4 columns/rows off, or you can fold 7ths and then quarter each of the 7ths. That also gives you a 28 by 28 grid.
These videos are amazing - you are a very skilled teacher. Your clarity and care describing your folding is impressive, doubly so when English isn't your first language! Thank you for making these videos, my wife loves them. I'm watching to get some ideas for a nice origami tessellation projects book for Christmas. Do you have any recommendations please?
@samkeen If she doesn't have Origami Tessellations by Eric Gjerde yet, go for that. If she also enjoys sowing, try Shadowfolds by Chris Palmer. Both books are listed on happyfolding(dot)com/books
hi there, what paper did you use to make the big orange and green tessellation at the beginning of the video? It looks like plastic and very durable. Where can I buy it? Thanks
Hi there, may I know what paper did you use for your big orange and green tessellation at the very start of the video? They look very much like plastic and durable. Where can I buy it? Thanks!
I tried to make the 11 stage clover folding model and the copy paper that I used, tore and was too small. Do you know of a place online that I could order some cheap origami paper that would work well with the larger stages of the clover folding model? The largest size of copy paper that I have is 8.5 X 11 inches. Therefore to make a square, the paper would only be 8.5 inches square, and that is too small for me because I have fairly big hands. Thanks for any help!!
@caseyedds11 Have you tried wrapping paper? Also, check my video on how to make tissue paper. That would provide you with good and large paper. Finally, origami-shop(dot)com does have larger squares, e.g. 35cm (approx 13 3/4 in) squares. But it's more expensive than the first two options I named.
hello Adams Sara! I love your origami videos. As a matter of fact my grandpa makes origami! He learned some models from his dad(my great grandpa) and he made some models on his own. he taught me some of his models and they were great, but your videos are still better.
I love this video thank you! I used a giant piece of paper so I had to cut off the edges of the paper to finish it. It turned out better then I thought it would. Your origami is the best!
am making my 8-stage one, and have been struggle for 3 hours to get to the 3rd stage... but hey i really enjoy this! I believe this piece of work would end up looking really nice :) :) :)
I have a random question about origami shop.com. On the top of the page it shows three models: the cartoon frog, the owl and theres this really cool red and grey dragon. I was just wondering if you know who created that model an if they have a book out that has instructions for it?
@somprsn2525 The frog is by Nicholas Terry and is diagrammed in the book "Passion Origami". If I'm not mistaken, the owl is by Roman Diaz and is diagrammed in "Origami Essence". I'm not sure about the dragon.
@somprsn2525 The frog is in "Passion Origami" by Nicolas Terry, the owl is in "Origami Essence" by Roman Diaz, the dragon I don't know from the top of my head.
@alberlos Did you post the wrong id? I cannot view that video. But perhaps you mean the densely tiled hydrangea. Check happyfolding(dot)com/gallery-fujimoto-hydrangea_tiling for details
@alberlos Did you check the PDF instructions I linked to on my website? I'll think about a video, but it wouldn't be happening anytime soon in any case.
@PrinceofPersia6423 Actually, for display models I usually simply measure 4/7, then quarter that, and then proceed folding the remaining 7th. You might call it cheating, but for display models I prefer not having any reference lines.
I'm not sure why but when I made this I did the eleven layered one, but one thing that I noticed was that while yours appeared to come upwards as a pyramid, mine was concave and sunk downwards in the middle.
Hi sara, thankyou for this video, ive been an origami fan for years and finally decided to try some harder stuff and after a bit of research discovered this tessellation to be the new big thing for experts!
However i had no idea how to get started as it seemed so complicated but after some research i found your videos, they have really helped but i would also love this model as it would help me understand it even more!
@AdamsSara I also like how you ask permission to use models and give proper credit, many origami designers dont get the credit they deserve. (and its really hard too)
@PrinceofPersia6423 Actually, the direction doesn't matter much. I recommend making the creases bidirectional (so fold both as valley and mountain), but obviously that's a bit more work.
@mechaprime00 Not too hard - fold a 128 grid, then cut off 10 grid squares on each side. It's actually not that much more work, and you can skip folding the border that you'll be cutting off in any case.
@AdamsSara Unfortunately, I've discovered that the squares of the grid would be much too small... Must wait for a four-foot square for that one. 16-stage clover it is then.
Nicely done. Hmmm I guess tessellations are possible to teach by video. This particular one brings back childhood memories... I came up with the same tessellation about 20 years ago... but I went one extra step... I rounded all the squares with mountain folds... and called it Pyramid of Gold Coins.
@anh21070 You are the lucky winner. :) Please send me your postal address (your full name, your full address including country) and I'll send you the model!
I would like to have the model. Thank you so much for this video, sorry I have been pestering you about this particular model. Again I want to thank you for this video, awesome work!!!

@cocohhm Those models are folded from pergamyn / glassine. You can find such paper in crafts stores, e.g. for making kites or lanterns.

hi sara,
wie kann ich ein 28 x 28 grid falten ??
ich verzweifle daran
kannst du mir bitte helfen
danke
dgaga100 7 months ago
@dgaga100 Einfacher: 32-Grid falten und oben und rechts 4 Spalten abschneiden. Schwieriger: Siebtel falten, jedes Siebtel vierteln. Siehe happyfolding(dot)com/term-equal_distances für eine Anleitung für Siebtel.

The precreasing is sooo hard
rahrahrummummah 10 months ago
I got the five and six layers done.
The five layer was my first one ever done. It was easy :P
I had to cut the tant to make it 34x34 though >:
I know a way to divide by seven (that's why I could do the five one first) but for 17 and 34... ugh.
I'm going to do 40x40 for a seven layer one next though :D
Third try. I love this model. In thin paper, it looks great on windows with sun!
