  • how about a fire extinguisher?

  • putting water on the carpet to both limit the oxygen and reduce the ignition source (heat) will eventually put the fire out. If done carefully and before the aluminum pot melts and spills the oil, all that will happen will be a great story to tell.

  • @counciousstream I'm sure the pot is stainless steel and oil will not burn hot enough to melt it and although it worked out for them this time the smartest thing you can do is make sure to have a fire extinguisher ready at all times. Thankful for this family that it worked out well but for many it doesn't and should be a reminder to everyone too invest in a fire extinguisher or three ;)

  • @dollabilyall: The pots are all aluminum and contrary to what people commenting on this video think, the oil fire doesn't get hot enough to melt the pot. The smartest thing to do is move the whole thing to a spot far away from anything that you don't want to catch fire, have a fire extinguisher on hand and make sure the damn turkey is thawed all the way and excess water drained off of it.

  • I guess they had pizza...

  • This was a bad idea, lol!!

  • Good save man!

  • But what happened to the turkey. Was it saved?

  • probably should have taken the propane away...

  • Who the heck puts water on a oil fire...LOL Wow, just wow

  • you stupid idiots! unhook the propane! gosh you are so stupid

  • @bacondude1217 At least turn it off...

  • Nice save.

  • So. Many. Trolls.

  • well done. saturated the rug with water, cooled down the pot which brought down the fire, and smothered it with the cool saturated rug. Risky but effective.... BTW I'm not a fireman/person. Just an an honest and observational armchair quarterback.

  • @turbulus Me too and a damn good one at that. I'm also the most humble human on the planet.

  • stupid

  • lol water?

  • Cannot put out an oil fire with water...

  • "go get a pan of water" Idiots...

  • on a wooden deck?

  • fuckin retards lol standing there looking at it.

  • oh lets add water to a MFing oil fire that was one of the stupidest things ive ever seen.

  • I never learned a thing about baking soda in Biology class. :P

  • All in all, I think you guys did a good job of NOT panicking and actually saving your deck and your house from a major fire. Wetting the rug was quite smart, rather then attempting to spray the grease fire directly with the hose. Despite all the negative posts, nice work putting it out yourselves without anyone getting hurt or any property getting damaged, well besides the dudes ego. :)

  • Yeah lets leave the propane tank sitting there fuckin retards

  • Now that's a fire!!!!

  • for every white guy that burns his house down a spirit of a native american laughs

  • honey , go turn the oven on lol

  • @MicahCrks04 ur an idiot

  • quit eating fried turkey all of u r fat

  • so, what's for dinner?

  • close to the house, on a wooden deck, friggin idiots.

  • Good job! You responded to the situation calmly and intelligently.

  • theamazinghalfbreed say white eyes are funny!

  • stupid people doing things stupidly. But I am glad nothing major happened

  • Don't see the problem. READ. I tried this and did it right the first time and the second and so on. Thirty feet from the house on grass or dirt. Buy a fire extinguisher and keep it close by. Have fun. Best turkey I've ever had.

  • Pizza for dinner tonight

  • Don't fry on the deck. Have an extinguisher nearby. No water. Call 911. Prep the fryer according to instructions. Be safe so you can make more memories with your family.

    Peace.

  • These people are still stupid! Dont fry turkey's anymore idiots!

  • I can't take her .. she must be from New Jersey...

How can some one in this time an age be sue retarded... Also the camera man is a collage educated, can't poor piss out of a boot with the instruction on the bottom..

    Phone Phone Phone Phone..

God Every one is a boss and only the dad is doing something..Public education!!

  • THis woman is a Real Idiot... Jesus SHe is stupid....

  • HERP DERP, IM AMERICAN, I LEIK FRYER'S HEEEEEEEEEERP-A-DEEEEEEERP

  • Lots of great comments starting with "I wouldv'e" and "All they had to do was" ... yeah, lets see if you are that cool headed when YOU'RE the one running around with tongs, a welcome mat and a garden hose ... I would have been running out of the house and calling the fire department, and probably would have lost my deck and part of my house for lack of action and clear thought. Would make a good PSA around Thanksgiving!

  • Fire Extinguishers save lives!

One of the first basic rules to frying a turkey is having an ABC fire extinguisher handy. I'm glad we havnt had to use ours yet, but its always good to play it smart and safe. Hopefully you guys were still able to fry up a good turkey because IT IS AWESOME!!

  • Fucking Hillbillies

  • @Zygotepro not even close to hillbillys

  • @MicahCrks04

    It was peanut oil.

  • Actually, they didn't put water on a grease fire. They first used the water to wet the deck, then after putting the carped on to smother the fire, they used the water to cool the oil and get it below its flashpoint. They kept their heads and got the situation under control.

  • lÕl_ånYøñÈ_wåNnà_chÂt_wÍth_mê_Ï_fêel_so_lÓnËly_tØDáý▼

  • that dude was holding the lid. all they had to do was put the lid on it.

  • "in biology class"?

    "get a pan of water"?

    THE HOSE?!?!?!?!?

oh my gosh. I thought that guy was going to spray the oil. I was expecting to hear "ok, now we need to also need to know how to put out a deck fire... and a person fire."

  • Yes lets put water on the grease fire. Excellent.

  • Actually, that wet cloth idea he tried at the end it's the preferred method to putting this kind of fire out if you don't happen to have a foam extinguisher on hand.

  • Hello, I'm a dumb biyach, .....Never mind a guy fixed it......

  • u fail

  • Just search the world of YouTube . You will see any number of these types of situations.

    Deep fryers are dangerous.

Great job staying calm and not making it any worse.

  • At least that guy is a real man and put the fire out himself.

  • I really wish it would have caught the deck on fire that way the idiot learns a leason

  • this is a joke, right??? nobody is that dumb

  • one lesson kid,s never on a wooden deck . Ya think?

  • "Smart people do dumb things sometimes."

If you were really "smart", you wouldn't have done this in the first place.

  • i enjoy how they put a propane canister right next to the blazing inferno.

  • @DoBrigh What were they suppose to fuel the burner with?

  • Some people are just too stupid to live.

  • That's actually pretty clever. Good work that man.

  • Wow wow just wow. I love how they turn their back to the raging fire behind them. Dumb asses. Can you stupid as hell.

  • damn a propane tank and a wooden porch? wow

  • "This is a bad idea." No shit!

  • " we should call the fire department "

FOR THIS ?!?! fucking idiots !! million dollars of tax payer goes into these kind of dumbass

  • @zero00tolerance The fire department is kinda there for a reason. Depending on the nature of the call they can come with a pickup with a water tank and fire extinguishers or they can haul ass with their fire engine.

  • water + oil??? very bad idea!

  • lol all you'd need is a fire extinguisher. It's not nearly big enough to call the fire department.

  • @davcoolbeans if you can't turn it out, it's ALWAYS better to call the fire department

  • aahhahah only in america are people this stupid

  • @Kdaljeet says the canadian

  • hey you guys got the video on gizmodo

    also this is pretty funny

i can't believe you did not know how to put it out

  • i like how they remove the propane tanks after the fires out

  • shutting off the propane tanks should had been done in the first place instead of calling the fire department.

  • damn rednecks!

  • have you ever thought about putting it in really slow? and defrosted

  • have you tried to fry again since the "incident"?

  • What a waste of the fire departments time...

  • a pan of water

  • @NAURIS707 Ummm. I really hope you're kidding... REALLY.. and if you are serious, do the world a favour and do NOT ever heat up any oil...

  • @SmuttyNLP i was commenting on what the guy said in @ :24

  • geniuses

  • OMG! ROFL!

  • SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU OLD HAG...THATS MY DECK,,.i burn it if I want

  • Pop Quizz Hotshot! You've got three gallons of greese burning... what do you do? Take a hose to it?

  • I love the woman in the back yelling "THIS IS NOT A GOOD IDEA!". Too bad she didn't say that 2 hours earlier.

  • Hahahaha Covering the pot and then spraying water , hummmm Lets refer to high school Science class , Oh yea that equals... BOOOOOOMMMMMM.. !!!!

  • This almost looks staged.

  • They were very lucky.

  • Maybe they thought the wood would add to the flavor if it caught fire like those mesquite barbecue pellets but wtf would pressure treated smoked and burned turkey taste like? They should have thought of that too. I'm surprised they didn't tip the burner over and stomp on it.

  • @MindGroper LMAO! LMAO! LMAO! This is some funny Shit! I laughed for 10 minutes off of your comments!

  • @travelchristie Happy Thanksgiving and Black Friday! I'm glad these people didn't burn the house down. I've never had fried turkey but if I try doing it I'm gonna set up on the grass away from the house.

  • @MindGroper Setting up a deep fryer on grass? That should do just fine. Give me a call when you finish burning down the neighborhood.

  • @punkfukher I have short green grass behind my house. You must have been thinking I had dry 5 foot prairie grass that would catch fire and rage with the wind. I can understand your misunderstanding though because I didn't specify. No worries. We've never had a fire spread on the green lawns so I'm not too concerned. Thanks and have a great cyber Monday.

  • First and foremost... Water & Oil Fires do NOT mix in any way shape or form. To include cooling the deck or the pot. What would have happended if oil that was on fire dripped out of the pot, it would spread more easily. What these people should have done is shut off and disconnected the propoane (if they could safety do so), if they had an ABC extinguisher available use that if that failed call the fire department.

The moron with the hose and the house should be crispered... Very lucky!

  • well...

    it IS cooking.

  • From the original comment made the lid had warped, what the guy did with spraying it with water at face value was a bad idea, but he didn't spray the water into the fire.

Covering the opening and cutting off the air supply was a good move, also saturating the deck and spraying the outside of the fryer looked like a good idea. It cooled the pot down which also helped put out the fire. The quick moves and thinking on your feet saved the deck and the house. Keep an eye on the oil temp.

  • Ok, here is a little piece of advice from fireman, First his monkey ass is lucky he is not dead and your house not gone. Second you guys have no business frying a turkey if you don't know how to do it or put out a Oil fire, next time invest in a ABC fire Extinguisher. Its people like you is why I hate Thanks Giving and Christmas.

  • PAN OF WATER ON OIL!! OK DUMBASS!

  • Don't think there is a need to call the fire department. As most fires like that can be handled with a cover to smother the flames from the oxygen. It was definitely a good idea to pre cover the floor with water and the surrounding area of the fryer.

  • dumb southern morons

  • @carjrock stfu us southeners are smarter than some of yall yankeys

  • haha thats what they teach you in biology... wow, and she went to school?

  • WOW white ppl DO NOT know how to do SHIT !!! HAHAHA

  • this guys are retards!!!

  • LMFAO the cameraman sounds like Butt-head....

  • Shit happens, I guess.

  • Yes I would use this more for an educational video. But the problem with that who is going to view videos before atempting to deep fry a turkey. Any way this video should be sent out with every deep fryer sold. It was handled very well and it ended without harm.

  • these ppl should play the lottery often . i cant belive it didnt burn his house down . lucky SOB . once the one dude pulled out the water hose i thought for sure somone was gonna get seriously burned and the house was gone . everyone how views this please go out and buy a fire exstinguisher. you may think youll never need it but when you need one and aint got it you llook like these jack asses.

  • Sadly, this is the intelligence level of most people in the USA. I would say 90%.

  • stop, drop and bloody roll mate.

  • This video was awesome. haha I like how they all just stand and stare,

  • I can't believe they actually put this on you tube...this must be an engineer and his family.......not one person in this video has any common sense, next time you have a grease fire put the lid on it....that's the best way to start. It's people like this that cause our insurance rates to go up !!!!!

  • i like how we move the propane tanks after the fire is being put out and omg people not water for grease baking soda people really did anybody read the directions

  • a good way to BURN YOUR FUCKING HOUSE DOWN!

  • would of been better off using the Turkey Fryers lid

  • Heh, just make sure you have a CO2 extinguisher next time.

  • Water on a oil fire. Fucking brilliant just fucking brilliant. You guys should run for office you dumbnuts would make great politions

  • and what did we learn from this?

  • you fail.

  • never use water on a oil fire! and biology class? lmfao

  • and not once did anyone think to disconnect and move that humongous PROPANE TANK 3 feet away

  • Not a good idea to disconnect the tank when there is a fire. They can take more damage then you believe. Shut off the valve and leave it.

  • @crashtestcow

I am sure that they turned it off, but disconnecting would have meant subjecting themselves to INTENSE radiant heat. unless it is immersed in fire (like had they poured water into the pot) the tank should be fine.

  • Government employees, gotta be.

  • overfilled fryer, on a wooden deck, with no co2 extringuisher in sight, and then you pour on water. bunch of genii eh. You are lucky to be alive.

still at least you would have done the gene pool a favour and added to the Darwin Awards , silver lining and all that.

  • ON A WOODEN FUCKING DECK?

  • it was probably the water guy who also had the wise idea to do this on the wooden deck

  • no boddy who knows how to cook would add water to hot oil, thats just rstupid

  • On the deck - mmmmmkay

  • use sum water thats smart lol

  • I love he statement 'do you want to use baking soda? That's what they sid in biology class' Actually the smartest statement from the entire group. Thos things are just crazy anyway.

  • wow...number one rule with an oil fire, DON'T USE WATER. fail

  • at least your dek did not get burned!

    your dek lol!

    turkey with carpet gravy! yum!!!!

  • lol

  • And all you freaking yankees call us southerners morons. Geez. Hey I got an idea, lets get the wrong kind of oil, a water hose, and then we can set all on the wood deck which is connected to the house and set the f@&king oil on fire. yipee!

  • you guys are fucking retarted, you are so damn lucky...never use water with a grease fire, basic chem

  • Man, I was totally waiting for the giant grease explosion.

  • who would do something like that on a wooden deck so near the house?

  • Wood deck, grease fire, propane tank, water, and let's not call the fire dept. You've got to be kidding me.

  • wooden deck....... lol

  • lol wow never do it again leave it to people that know how

  • yeah lets use water on that fire. I cant believe how lucky they were.

  • it amazes me that people like this actually exist. morons frying on a wood deck and dont know how to put it out.

    idiots

  • The camera guyn was the only fucker with any smarts...

  • get that propane tank outta there!!! geez!

  • That dumb shit who put it out with water and a rug was a lucky SOB. What asshole fries a turkey on a wood deck and doesn't have a fire extinguisher? Happy holidays, morons.

  • Freaking IDIOTS! I hope none of them EVER breed...

  • Darn it! Darwin missed another one. Not to worry, me thinks it won't be long before this idiot gets culled from the heard.

  • next time put gas!!

  • lol

  • I'll bet you were scared as hell
