I am happy to see old cultures continue on with subsistence whaling, but not where whales are endangered, and certainly not on a commercial basis.

Of course they are all inter dependent.
Take away one part of the system and it's checks and balances on another the effect is to alter the ocean's biotic composition.
By altering the ice sheets in the south through anthropogenic warming we affect krill breeding and consequently whale survival rates.
There is simply no excuse for the destruction of the oceans.
We are supposed to be an intelligent species which seems to ring quite hollow at the moment.

I could ask what do real environmentalists, and by that I do not mean the Greenpeace-kind, stand to gain by alienating large numbers of people around the world by constantly expressing contempt for their laws and cultures?
Environmentalism, as a political movement, must express respect for both the peoples and lands it is trying to benefit, and that must include recognising domestic laws.
Cults like Greenpeace only express contempt for societies governed by the rule of law.

The two arrested "activists" are charged with trespassing and stealing whale meat.
Greenpeace insists both activities are legal, when in fact under Japanese law they are not.
For the millionth time, Greenpeace and the wider eco-terrorist movement have proven they are horrible, and I mean horrible spokesmen for conservationist practices around the world.
These are shameless parasistes with no respect for domestic laws and native cultures.

As ações devem ser bem ordenadas e com bases concretas, para não serem julgadas eternamente sem se chegar a lugar nenhum...Aqui no Brasil houve uma manifestação contra o aquecimento Global(Ponte, Rio/Niterói), porém foi o verdadeiro "tiro no pé", horas de engarrafamento e consumo de combustíveis desnecessário, a opinião pública ficou totalmente contra a essa ação(GP)....Por isso digo, tendo fatos concretos não há de ter recursos.

I am happy to see old cultures continue on with subsistence whaling, but not where whales are endangered, and certainly not on a commercial basis.
As japan proved to the world, there is a problem with allowing whaling on cultural grounds. Those who assert that right, can take advantage of the rules and just conduct commercial whaling with no cultural context at all. Worse yet, japan abuses the research clause.
They don't belong in the IWC, however their pirating must be stopped, and enforced.
