this sounds so painful when you know what is going on at the time, listen to how he is bending those strings with the energy he had left in his fingers.
@ jimmyleppard6 Amen little bro , I sure stirred up a hornets nest !! I really don't know his music well . I wish people would get off my case now . Thanks anyways !
This sounds amazing, these should have been put in the album version! It's so incredible, he can barely play but I can't even tell... He plays these parts with so much feeling. I want to cry. Just awesome...
@theheavymetalhero Yes he does. You can tell that even though his hands are weakening you can hear his style of phrasing cut through. Extraordinary musician.
@dave22h34 As much as I like Paul Gilbert, I'm pretty sure Jason Becker could've spanked anybody in the world. That kid had so much attitude and fire. Jason had a massive sweep picking ability. He also had killer (if not some of the best) neo-classical chops, and was a great showman.
@dave22h34 Gilbert wouldn't smoke him anyhow. Nobody denies Gilberts technicall chops, but it takes more than only chops to compete with Jason Becker ... And even chops was something Jason had tons.
@dave22h34 That is highly debatable, but dude, don't shit on Jason Becker just because other people idolize him more than your clearly beloved Paul Gilbert, I don't know how somebody can like Paul Gilbert and at the same time NOT like Jason Becker, do you have a mental deficiency? Gilbert is a God and Jason Becker is also a God, and this goes toward everyone, please stop arguing about the masters' talents when clearly nobody else has the same ability to even come close to judging them
@dave22h34 DING DING DING DING DING. YOU JUST FAILED SO HARD THAT ONE FACEPALM ISN'T ENOUGH. Get real or get the fuck out. In this video, Jason is playing guitar when he already suffered from ALS, if you know what that is. If not, check it out. If you wanna hear real, healthy jason becker, you have to check his albums like perpetual burn or songs like altitudes, air or images.
sickens me everytime i hear one a jasons songs wat happened to such an amazingly talented person wheres everyones god in situations like that if he is true wats his fucking problem destroyin a legend and hardly anyone no's him wich is an even bigger fucking shame
This is Jason... His wonderful phrasing and articulation is so beautiful... I wish he didn't get ALS so he could of played it on his record even though I think Firkins does an excellent job...
He was suffering from a terrible disease, and yet he could still play better than most people. It's so sad that this happened to such a great guitarist...
@mightywing111 It used to be around on VHS on a site I think it was "Pete's Videos" or something. Don't know if it was ever made into a file. I decided with the way things were going/$ needed for Jason that I would no longer share it and have no idea what happened to it . Hot Licks must have got the original because it is MUCH better quality than the copy I had. You can search "Jason Becker AIM-Clips (not from Hot Licks)" here/talk with poster maybe.
I believe this is Jason because the bar technique Jason uses is more this style. He bends notes in half steps a lot whereas MLF is almost always diatonic and with more vibrato right from the bar (whereas Jason does more combinations). He talked about this style a lot in his full clinic video, which I got to see a copy of a long time ago before it was remastered. Marty always copied it but without using a bar. Not sure who "started it" though might have been Marty.
@Whyrendog You are absoulutely right. Anybody Who has seen the hotlicks video can tell this is not Firkins. Listen to the studio and listen to this. Firkins does not play this way and Jason even demonstrates his usage of the bar in the hotlcks video. Glad to see someone actually knows their stuff. :)
Great demo matetial. Jason sound is really recognizable and unique. It's sad to hear that some fast licks are a bit too fast for Jason. I think Jason deserves all the respect for still composing music and staying positive.
MLF did it justice, that's for sure. He stayed true to the tone and phrasing that Jason plays here. I had never heard this before, only the MLF version on Jason"s CD. Great stuff.
You are very wrong...DESIMODONTIDAE...this is Jason playing...the tracks. Firkins plays the studio version...after, when JB can not play because of ALS.
these were all on his old web site, of course they are HIM!!! if you can't tell it's Jason by his sound and tech, gtfo... Firkins is good but HE IS NO FUCKING JASON BECKER. he did justice with the studio recording but Jason would have made it better if he was able to do it..
Damn ALS took a great musicians ability to do what he loves best away just imagine how great he'd be today if it wasnt for that fuckin disease may lights shine on you from the Heavens Jason
c'est pas lui qui la joue il l a composée de tête alors qu'il était incapable de jouer. quoi qu'il en soit l'interpretation n'en reste pas moins géniale
Nope. If you listen to the 'jams albums you'll hear bits and pieces of what would eventually evolve into this song Jason started writing (or finishing you could say) this song as he was getting weaker, and these are recording of Jason himself. The final recording for the "Perspective" album however had Michael Lee Firkins on guitar because by that point Jason could no longer play.
IIn the STUDIO VERSION, all guitar parts are played by FIRKINS, however IN THIS VIDEO, ALL GUITAR PARTS ARE PLAYED BY JASON, THAT WAS THE POINT OF HIM RELEASING THESE RECORDINGS IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!!!!! Sorry, but I am tired of people saying this isn't Jason when it clearly is. Also, Jason played ALL PARTS IN THESE RECORDINGS, multiple guitar tracks all recorded by him and layered on top of each other.
GOT A QUESTION!!! what the hell happened to the og music video of the blonde dude(i think its loomis) and the classical band playing too ya know what im talkin bout? anybody? where do i find the full version?
@mrmikeman10 no way it could be loomis. He can't get that sound with his equipment. Firkins, however, gets such a sweet, open sound... damn now i need to look up some Firkins.
Some time ago I decided to check out Becker's website, the page loaded up and there were many pictures of Jason before and after ALS, all of them while the song "Higher" from Perspective album played. I kinda cryied that time.

no no, first guitar at age five, diagnosed at age 19. Record deal at 17, however started playing out in the public eye and able to be recorded live at the age of 16. so in a sense his true pro career started at the age of 16. if something in there was wrong, i hope and am sure that someone would correct me.

Actually 17 or 18 cause he could move for like 1 or 2 years after being diagnosed.

In a GW interview, Jason said he was 6 when he got a guitar (he got a xylophone at 5 but hated it) and as about 19-20 when he was getting weaker.

no no, first guitar at age five, diagnosed at age 19. Record deal at 17, however started playing out in the public eye and able to be recorded live at the age of 16. so in a sense his true pro career started at the age of 16. if something in there was wrong, i hope and am sure that someone would correct me.
Cheers and keep his spirit chuggin.
