@GtGills Are they proper 4 channel helis? with swash plates and gyro mixing? or walmart specials. If there from Walmart or similar then no, go to a hobby shop and get an MCX2, if they are proper helis then its possible, turn down the swash mix to dampen the controls and DONT fly in idle up mode yet, stay in normal mode until you are absolutely certain you know how the machine operates. Crashing in idle up means certain destruction to inexperienced pilots. normal mode will save you money
Okay thx, the dx6i seems fine for me because i don't know if i will fly anything with more than 6 channels soon and the programmable 10 models seem way enough.
Ah so the throttle curve is for the starting promarily because i know that a cp heli most of the time has fixed rpm and regulates altitude with the pitch of the blades of course... Thx for the info and i might really consider mcpx as next heli when i am perfect with the msr...
Throttle curve is that automatic rpm changes if you manouver the heli? Because it would otherwise lose altitude fast on a CP when tilting the nose forward for example? I know i am a dilettant but was that about right or am i thinking completely of the wrong thing here
@ForceM1782 Throttle curve is used to control the throttle separately from the controls. Its not necessarily when going forward, its more for rising and descending without loosing RPM. Its used primarily in "Idle up" mode, where the motor will remain at 90-100% throttle all the time, and your lift and descent is controlled by pitch. Of course you would not take off like this. making it hit 100% throttle from zero would only blow gears.. Its a science, and you'll learn with your next heli
Yeah i probably wanted to buy a dx6i (hope that was correct) next since i had the mlp4dsm from the msr and i just bought the mcx for fun and my wife i took it bnf. But if i get more serious about it the radio is next purchase anyway. Would that 6 channel make sense since you can program it? But i wanted to stay into micros not only because of the cost but also since i don't want to bother with transporting something larger!
@ForceM1782 DX6i is the minimum. Its a cheap price and works just fine. You can spend as much as you want of course but for micros the DX6i will work just fine.
I own an mCX2 which i master quite well and also an mSR (the old one with flybar) which i fly pretty well, just not on advanced swashplate settings yet... So would this make sense as a next addition, or would you recommend the new flybarless mSR first. I don't really want to spend the extra money for such a small improvement but don't want to shredder the mCPx on my first flight either if its not controllable for me. I want to stay in the ultra micro segment too as an additional info.
@ForceM1782 As far as the MSR is concerned, no the new flybarless one will not help you. There nearly identical. The MCPX IS a possible next move, but your going to need to get a bind and fly model, and buy yourself a good quality radio that you can use to program your heli. Since it is an advanced heli you need to learn about pitch and throttle curves. You also need to be able to adjust your swash mix, that will make the heli either very sensitive, or not at all. This will help you.
@ForceM1782 In a perfect world we would all be able to afford the true next step after the MSR, which would be a proper, high quality heli in the 500 size. 450 and smaller size are very unstable and difficult, the larger you go, the easier they are. but since there price is upwards of 2 THOUSAND dollars, the MCP-X is more cost effective, though not the perfect learning tool.
@RobscoRC I agree. Definitely not a learner tool. I found it to be a very frustrating machine. Out of the box it was completely uncontrollable, especially with the RTF tx (a dx4e!!). The parts are far from indestructible. I've had two tail booms which fall to bits with the slightest knock, and two sets of landing gear, none of which are as pliable as the one in the video above. I'm thinking about moving up to a bigger more stable machine, with a tail that holds, unlike the one on the mcpx.
So what are the advantages and dissadvatages of flybarless campared to traditional helis with flybars? Unless it improves stability I dont see a need for flybarless
@Doamino41 Its not necessarily a stability thing. Flybarless heads have FAR less moving parts, which make the head able to spin faster, while also being more efficient. It also allows for faster response times, which brings us to the pure purpose of flybarless.. 3D flying. Flybar heads have a lag, small but still a lag which is why they work, they allow for supreme stability, remove the flybar and your aerobatic ability gets much higher because it no longer has that lag.
So flybarless would be recommended for intermediates and experts who depend on fast responses for 3D flying A beginner like me would have no need aerobatic abilities but it would be something to think about in the future.Got it,,, thnx for the info.
@Doamino41 Exactly. Flybar is still very good, my Trex 500 is flybared and its a rocketship. Very fast, agile, and very manoeuvrable. Im building a huge 90 size heli right now and its going to be flybarless. I can't wait to check out the response differences.
@Doamino41 The disadvantage to flybarless is that you are putting a lot of faith into a small piece of electronics, and I have personally seen three axis gyros glitch, causing the heli to spin out of control until gravity does what it does best..
Excellent review. I can't stress enough the lesson on tightening the blades. Mine was uncontrollable out of the box, but once the blades were tightened up, it hovered in stable fashion. Well done!!
@Scottsr450 you get what you pay for my cheapest heli was 55.00 on sale my biggest one so far 335.00 regual price and iam still flying coaxial 3 channels and i have 1 mini 4 channel iam trying to learn on , iam just new to this hobby and i dont mind spending the money on a quaility rig
I tried ordering a T Rex 250 and they told me they are discontinued until further notice. You said your shop where do I look. Your web site. Do you sell Gaui
@Scottsr450 Weird! I mean my local hobby shop. Its called Model Land in Calgary Alberta. There website has a phone number if you'd like to order from them. They mail all around the world. Id look into somewhere close to you if I were you so you can make sure they keep a parts supply
I'm glad you got a gem. I'm looking for a small heli with belt drive, flybarless. Do any that you mention have one? A little smaller than the blade SR.
@Scottsr450 Look into the Trex 250 as well as Gaui, Not flybarless but they are designed specifically for indoor 3d. Flybarless is hard in smaller units because often the 3 axis gyro is to heavy to lift.
Ya I talked to Andy at Horizon and told me that I would have to pay $63.00 for a new board. I'm looking at a Walkera V120d05 to replace it. Also have the new 450 X coming seen it at the hobby show. I own 5 blade helis and the mcpx is not a good one. Don't mean to cut it down but four of my friends own it to. Same problems. Do you know anything about Walkera? I like that it is belt drive and only 11 inches long.
@Scottsr450 That really blows.. I don't buy any RC I can't buy at a local hobby shop. I don't support knock off's and I don't like half quality gak, so no I don't know much about it. Sorry. If you said Align, Gaui, Miniature Aircraft, Thunder Tiger and even E-flight then I could help you. E-flight has never been without issue, id be the first to say that. They are the bottom of the barrel but there widely supported and have some gems. Im lucky I guess, my MCPX is a gem..
I own one. It did teach me how to fly c.p. Helicopters. But it is nothing but problems. Went through two circuit boards and servos. I'm willing to sell it for $50.00 paid 180 for it on September 6 2011.
@Scottsr450 Im sorry to hear that! Horizon should take care of the issue for you. I've seen whole batches of bad boards before and they are good for service..
I came from several Airhogs helicopters, then to mCX2, then I went to the mCP x. Now I would recommend to get a Blade mSR x before the mCP x, and after the mCX 2.
I have flown the blade mcx for a long time now, it has retired. I was able to do anything you could with it. Is this a good next step? Or should I go with the msr or 120 sr. Great review Thanks! (open to others thoughts as well)
@TheViolaMan506 The msr or 120sr will be the next progression for you. I started with an mcx2 and later got an msr. I fly them both all the time and still have not mastered the msr but have outgrown the mcx2 just like you. From what I hear, the mcpx is a big difference being a flybarless, CP heli. Also, they have more small parts and are not be as durable as an msr. You should wait and see how the msrx pans out later this month. It's supposed to solve the problems the msr has like TBE and TBO.
@robbie2737 u should have a small red C shaped tool that came with the heli. its used to reset your swashplate after a crash. u may have to use it quite often(i did on 1 of mine but not on the other) check the manual for info on how to use it. if your flybar doesn't flop around up and down with no resistance, this fix should help greatly! good luck
@megajlg100 thanks but no luck with the tool..everything seems to be aligned pefectly..I'm just gonna rebuilt it.New blades, bladegrips, rotor hub, main shaft...if that don't work..this will be the last micro I'm buying from Horizon..I have no probs with the mCPX or the the 120 sr only with the msr...shame is,The msr is tons of fun for indoor during the winter..have to wait n see what happens after I rebuilt it..Thanks again
@robbie2737 Toilet bowl effect is the bird's tendency to circle around like it is being flushed down the toilet. It is just the nature of the MSR due to its stabilization system and having a flybar. Tail blow out is when the tail blade can't keep up with the main blades under heavy power and the bird twists one way or the other. I have the X now and it is much better in both regards. They removed the fly bar and the tail motor is much more powerful. However, it is more difficult to fly.
@TheViolaMan506 I agree with what 02stampede said. The mSR or 120sr would be a better next step. More so the MSR over the 120 simply for durability, they both fly nearly identically but the MSR is stronger. The new flybarless MSR is supposed to be pretty sweet but I have not seen it yet.
Everytime I go inverted I blow out the tail and lose control. What do you suggest, I am easy on the negative to be sure I am not over pitching it, it just wont take sometimes.
If i can fly blade 120sr or msr well..will i be able to fly this one? i'm am talking basic manuvers no 3d as i just want a cp for basic flying...thanks
@Wiiviewsowner That was a long time ago, In all seriousness I have not heard of anyone having issues since its release. Mine is still using the original parts. Haven't had an issue yet. Id say buy it, theres nothing better for a micro help
@dittsboylogan Some people only want flying videos and feel they need to voice there opinion when a video about the heli they want, isnt a flying video.. I just wanted to show people my professional opinion on the machine
Hey, great review Robsco! You sold me on this. I had an mcx2 and never had a fixed pith single rotor before. Got it on Monday and started it on the maiden flight and did crash once or twice but it is great! I'm only 12 but it is my 4th day and I can fly around the house in some tight spaces! Thanks for selling me on this!
ONE ADVICE GUYS!!! BE CAREFUL WITH BLADE GRIB BEARING...I bought this nice baby and second flight almost killed me. One of blade grib bearings got loose and blade with grib just gone. Lucky that chopper was higher than my eyes. I have obtained new updated blade grib unit with letter "B". If you'd take look on top of grib, MUST be there letter "B"!!! Otherwise it could be really danger for you. On the other hand it's awsome to fly this beast.
I have the MSRX2 and I am told that I have pretty good control over the helicopter, except this seems a bit too advanced for me. Either I need to train on a flight simulater or I need the helicopter made before this. I know someone that just ordered the T-Rex 500 and he will NEVER let me fly it, so I wont have any real life experiance with this kind of chopper for a while.
@Franican132 I assume you mean MCX-2. because there is no MSRX2.. The next logical step would be the MSR or 120SR. If you want collective pitch go with the blade 400 at the very least. Sadly the honest truth is that most small collective pitch heli's are terrible. Anyone who tells you otherwise has never flown a good heli so cant be taken seriously. Sadly the best option is to fork out the money for a T-rex 450 or larger. Larger is MUCH better in the heli world, but ALOT more expensive
@folms110 Iv only flown it once at the rtr version and it wasn't as responsive. Having a proper radio is the best way to have it, but if you dont have one then the rtr version will still be a step up from other small CP heli's. Well worth the price tag. Look online for a used DX6i, you should be able to get one for pretty cheap and use it to fly the MCP-x.
Best review I've seen so far. Great job. The only thing I noticed on mine is that, right out of the box it had way too much negative pitch and I had to turn all three ball links out four or five full turns in order to get It close to 0 degrees at half stick. Thanks for the great review.
I love mine...I have owned 30's, 60's and the Xcell gas. I can say when you hit the ground you pick it up and keep flying. The larger birds that doesn't happen. I allows you to fly with out the stress of spending allot of money in repairs on the larger birds not even talking about all the down time.
@Nytro97 Yay someone who knows what there talking about! Thanks for the great comment and support. Some people just dont understand why paying more does not get you less.. Congrats on the xcell gas.. thats a bit to daunting for me :P
@xToXiicxT3RRoRx Oh sorry I thought you ment a GOOD 450. The thing to remember is that the MCP-X isnt designed to replace any other helicopter, it is its own beast. Its the smallest collective pitch flybarless heli ever, and I guarantee its different then anything you've flown before. If you want a 450, buy a 450.. but for those who want something smaller and more durable, they buy this. Though that does seem awfully expensive over there, Its about $100 less in Canada, and worth it.
@xToXiicxT3RRoRx obviously you have no idea what your talking about, or have an idea what a good helicopter is. Not to mention your probably 12 and dont have the mental capacity to fly one anyway, youve already proved your incapabilities with all your video game clips.. Prove your worth before you open your mouth.
Nice video. I am getting five mins out of mines of factory battiers with some time to spares thats sports flying,. flips, rolls, and invert and some rainbows. This lil heli will teach ccpm fast. God is Good
wrong srew you point out ,,its the bearing in the bladegrip that comes out ,,but mia mod site has a mod you can put on to prevent it ,,ordered one to see how it works
bearingglue works as well ,but doesnt protect your house against fast flying grips and blades or even metel bearings that are little bullits at that speed
heard of some getting circuitboard replaced under warranty ,,NO BEGINNER heli
and better for gardenflights as livingroom ,,livingroom will cost ya linkages and swashplates etc
@bassax7045 I agree on both accounts. I posted the correction to the screw issue in a on screen bubble and in the comments. Thanks for your input. Apperently there is also a bearing in the T-rex 250 that is the same size and people are switching to those with great success.
@RobscoRC yep , its the washout control arm outer bearing from the t-rex 250 ,got the tip from manuel del campos (buildem336 ) check his flightvids ,he is best pilot with this thing : )
There may be a battery shortage at the moment (not because I ordered 4) - they could only ship 3
Still trying to set it up for normal flight - interesting info about the blade stability (like many people I thought they were purely for fast forward flight)
Does anyone have this problem with the tail shaking on the MCP X? It does this with mine. Plus, it's seems to step side to side while in flight. Is this normal?
Awesome review!!! This is a kick ass heli nice for a rainy day if I want to get my 3d on and don't feel like dragging out my 500 or my 450. 2 thumbs up
My first mCPx had a faulty board, The tail would not hold, the second one, the feathering shaft screw came out when I enterd stunt mode causing it to crash into a display case in my LHS. I got a good one now, I was not sure about this heli at first, tho I am glad I stuck to it. It is extremely stable and it flys like a larger helicopter. This new flybarless system is going to take the world by storm.
@Prttimeninja2 Also, I own a JR 9503, There is no programming instructions in the mCPx's manual for that radio, so I used the Dx8's info and it seems to work just fine.
wefkyer is correct. The screws that the bulletin referred to are the feathering shaft screws. You should also add a dab of blue or, preferably, purple loctite to the feathering shaft screw as some are reporting even tightened spindle screws vibrating loose in flight.
Thanks, Awesome video/review. I was debating getting it but after your video I think I will. PS: where's your funny buddy who always seemed to be there when you were flying planes?
i think it was the feathering shaft scew that needed to be checked some of the mcp blade holders comeing undone in flight. the blade;s themselves need to be loose not that they should flop around though.now ther saying that it might be a bad bearing problem. were all waiting to hear from H.H
selling mine on ebay, just not having fun with it sooooo squirrel-leeeeee

@megajlg100 thanks but no luck with the tool..everything seems to be aligned pefectly..I'm just gonna rebuilt it.New blades, bladegrips, rotor hub, main shaft...if that don't work..this will be the last micro I'm buying from Horizon..I have no probs with the mCPX or the the 120 sr only with the msr...shame is,The msr is tons of fun for indoor during the winter..have to wait n see what happens after I rebuilt it..Thanks again
robbie2737 2 months ago
@robbie2737 Toilet bowl effect is the bird's tendency to circle around like it is being flushed down the toilet. It is just the nature of the MSR due to its stabilization system and having a flybar. Tail blow out is when the tail blade can't keep up with the main blades under heavy power and the bird twists one way or the other. I have the X now and it is much better in both regards. They removed the fly bar and the tail motor is much more powerful. However, it is more difficult to fly.
02stampede 1 month ago
@TheViolaMan506 I agree with what 02stampede said. The mSR or 120sr would be a better next step. More so the MSR over the 120 simply for durability, they both fly nearly identically but the MSR is stronger. The new flybarless MSR is supposed to be pretty sweet but I have not seen it yet.
RobscoRC 2 months ago
2 and a half minutes? wow that sucks!
PyR0Star 3 months ago
Everytime I go inverted I blow out the tail and lose control. What do you suggest, I am easy on the negative to be sure I am not over pitching it, it just wont take sometimes.
destroyerbmx 3 months ago
@destroyerbmx Use the 75% pitch travel adjustment otherwise the tail won't hold inverted..

why are there so many dislikes? This is the best review I've seen.
dittsboylogan 7 months ago
@dittsboylogan Some people only want flying videos and feel they need to voice there opinion when a video about the heli they want, isnt a flying video.. I just wanted to show people my professional opinion on the machine
RobscoRC 7 months ago
@RobscoRC I'd rather have an informational review, than just a flight. You sold me on this. I like how you have close-ups on it.

good review
scalejetdotnet 8 months ago

Liking this heli a lot, I'm thinking of moving up from the msr.
Good vid :D
Mr200sxs13 9 months ago
I have the MSRX2 and I am told that I have pretty good control over the helicopter, except this seems a bit too advanced for me. Either I need to train on a flight simulater or I need the helicopter made before this. I know someone that just ordered the T-Rex 500 and he will NEVER let me fly it, so I wont have any real life experiance with this kind of chopper for a while.
Franican132 9 months ago
@Franican132 I assume you mean MCX-2. because there is no MSRX2.. The next logical step would be the MSR or 120SR. If you want collective pitch go with the blade 400 at the very least. Sadly the honest truth is that most small collective pitch heli's are terrible. Anyone who tells you otherwise has never flown a good heli so cant be taken seriously. Sadly the best option is to fork out the money for a T-rex 450 or larger. Larger is MUCH better in the heli world, but ALOT more expensive
RobscoRC 9 months ago
What are your thoughts of flying this with the RTF radio? Not worth it?
folms110 10 months ago
@folms110 Iv only flown it once at the rtr version and it wasn't as responsive. Having a proper radio is the best way to have it, but if you dont have one then the rtr version will still be a step up from other small CP heli's. Well worth the price tag. Look online for a used DX6i, you should be able to get one for pretty cheap and use it to fly the MCP-x.
RobscoRC 10 months ago
Best review I've seen so far. Great job. The only thing I noticed on mine is that, right out of the box it had way too much negative pitch and I had to turn all three ball links out four or five full turns in order to get It close to 0 degrees at half stick. Thanks for the great review.
Bags2723 10 months ago
I love mine...I have owned 30's, 60's and the Xcell gas. I can say when you hit the ground you pick it up and keep flying. The larger birds that doesn't happen. I allows you to fly with out the stress of spending allot of money in repairs on the larger birds not even talking about all the down time.
Nytro97 10 months ago
@Nytro97 Yay someone who knows what there talking about! Thanks for the great comment and support. Some people just dont understand why paying more does not get you less.. Congrats on the xcell gas.. thats a bit to daunting for me :P
RobscoRC 10 months ago
Its a rip off look how small it is
xToXiicxT3RRoRx 10 months ago
@xToXiicxT3RRoRx The point is to be small and durable, so you can crash it and it wont break.
RobscoRC 10 months ago
@RobscoRC it costs the same as a 450 helicopter
xToXiicxT3RRoRx 10 months ago
@xToXiicxT3RRoRx Not even close, but thanks for playing..
RobscoRC 10 months ago
@RobscoRC in the uk its £210 and a erazor 450 is £199
xToXiicxT3RRoRx 10 months ago
@xToXiicxT3RRoRx Oh sorry I thought you ment a GOOD 450. The thing to remember is that the MCP-X isnt designed to replace any other helicopter, it is its own beast. Its the smallest collective pitch flybarless heli ever, and I guarantee its different then anything you've flown before. If you want a 450, buy a 450.. but for those who want something smaller and more durable, they buy this. Though that does seem awfully expensive over there, Its about $100 less in Canada, and worth it.
RobscoRC 10 months ago
@RobscoRC Its a pile of shit and a waste of money
xToXiicxT3RRoRx 10 months ago
@xToXiicxT3RRoRx obviously you have no idea what your talking about, or have an idea what a good helicopter is. Not to mention your probably 12 and dont have the mental capacity to fly one anyway, youve already proved your incapabilities with all your video game clips.. Prove your worth before you open your mouth.
RobscoRC 10 months ago
@xToXiicxT3RRoRx Re waste of money? In your opinion. Best stick to sims on your channel.
shabbypants54 9 months ago
@xToXiicxT3RRoRx actually in the UK it £169.99 so id check your facts before you come ranting on about stuff

Nice video. I am getting five mins out of mines of factory battiers with some time to spares thats sports flying,. flips, rolls, and invert and some rainbows. This lil heli will teach ccpm fast. God is Good
tntneon 11 months ago
wrong srew you point out ,,its the bearing in the bladegrip that comes out ,,but mia mod site has a mod you can put on to prevent it ,,ordered one to see how it works
bearingglue works as well ,but doesnt protect your house against fast flying grips and blades or even metel bearings that are little bullits at that speed
heard of some getting circuitboard replaced under warranty ,,NO BEGINNER heli
and better for gardenflights as livingroom ,,livingroom will cost ya linkages and swashplates etc
bassax7045 11 months ago
@bassax7045 I agree on both accounts. I posted the correction to the screw issue in a on screen bubble and in the comments. Thanks for your input. Apperently there is also a bearing in the T-rex 250 that is the same size and people are switching to those with great success.
RobscoRC 11 months ago
@RobscoRC yep , its the washout control arm outer bearing from the t-rex 250 ,got the tip from manuel del campos (buildem336 ) check his flightvids ,he is best pilot with this thing : )
bassax7045 11 months ago
@bassax7045 Awesome, thanks for the info, Iv been trying to figure out which one it was. Cheers
RobscoRC 11 months ago
There may be a battery shortage at the moment (not because I ordered 4) - they could only ship 3
Still trying to set it up for normal flight - interesting info about the blade stability (like many people I thought they were purely for fast forward flight)
OghamTheBold 11 months ago
Does anyone have this problem with the tail shaking on the MCP X? It does this with mine. Plus, it's seems to step side to side while in flight. Is this normal?
jcattera 11 months ago

khxml 11 months ago
My first mCPx had a faulty board, The tail would not hold, the second one, the feathering shaft screw came out when I enterd stunt mode causing it to crash into a display case in my LHS. I got a good one now, I was not sure about this heli at first, tho I am glad I stuck to it. It is extremely stable and it flys like a larger helicopter. This new flybarless system is going to take the world by storm.
Prttimeninja2 11 months ago
@Prttimeninja2 Also, I own a JR 9503, There is no programming instructions in the mCPx's manual for that radio, so I used the Dx8's info and it seems to work just fine.
Prttimeninja2 11 months ago
@Prttimeninja2 Thanks for the information. Iv been hearing a lot of this. I added an annotation to inform others. Thanks again

Nice review!!
Tony28337 11 months ago
wefkyer is correct. The screws that the bulletin referred to are the feathering shaft screws. You should also add a dab of blue or, preferably, purple loctite to the feathering shaft screw as some are reporting even tightened spindle screws vibrating loose in flight.
Otherwise, nice overview.
shizack2000 11 months ago
Thanks, Awesome video/review. I was debating getting it but after your video I think I will. PS: where's your funny buddy who always seemed to be there when you were flying planes?
freemarlochip 11 months ago
i think it was the feathering shaft scew that needed to be checked some of the mcp blade holders comeing undone in flight. the blade;s themselves need to be loose not that they should flop around though.now ther saying that it might be a bad bearing problem. were all waiting to hear from H.H
weflyer 11 months ago
@weflyer Very interesting. As I read it I thought it was the blade grips. Thanks for the information! I'll check this one out.
