I honestly completely empathize with the unfortunate situation but I don't understand why the parents would take the risk again of having another child. If they both know that one carries the gene for harlequin ichthyosis, why would they bring another child into this world after seeing their first one suffer with this rare condition? Since they have excess amount of skin, there are VERY high chances that they produce excess amount of pigment and melanin. You know how people have different eye colors? Well, it all has to do with the amount of pigment that's produced by the individual. In this case, these girls' eyes either have an excess amount OR not enough pigment because it must all be consumed by the skin since they grow new skin ALL THE TIME!
These young women did not have a say as to their present conditions. They are truly remarkable women. What disturbs me is although it is clear that these children are meant to be, why did the parents selfishly choose to have more knowing the risk was so high for other children to have the same disorder?

Another shows some sort of medical "professionals" pulling on a baby with virtually no brain! In this day and age of virtually every corner of the world having technology, why can't people be more educated - especially in the areas of humanity? Is there a 4th part to these girls story?
I often find it disappointing that in this age where information and knowledge is readily accessible to most if not all people, that most people are still ignorant and indifferent. I know if my child has a disability, I would probably pay more attention to it than the rest of my children, and that's not really fair, so the other children will get left out. @Orochimaruswife1 I, truly, do believe in abortion. It's not killing if the fetus depends purely on the mother for survival, hence it's not really a person. However: killing AFTER the baby is born is something I don't believe in, unless, of course, the baby is going to die anyway. Abortion is for mothers who either a) don't want a child, or b) can't take care of this child, or simply don't want to. If the mother is going to be an awful mother who won't even love her own child, what's the point?

I know if my child has a disability, I would probably pay more attention to it than the rest of my children, and that's not really fair, so the other children will get left out. Plus, these children are not meant to be born this way! If the disability is truly a disability (not something minor), then they are going to go through so much pain, it's better to kill them quickly than for them to die slowly.

What really upsets me reading some of these comments is the lack of compassion some people have for our fellow human beings. These children are beautiful! I have ADHD and have skin condition comes from my bitchy immune system which results in allergy and huge scars on my body. surely i survived and doing well as a adult but my mom is still a bit scarred by the parenting experience due to lack of support system (it was in the 90s) and makes me awfully conscious about not have child like this because i dont want them to suffer.
