I've seen people who are in a manic or depressive episode and it's not somthing that they can control or make up. Sometimes in a hyper manic state they can become psychotic and even hallucinate.

I think there should be more free special schools because over here most special schools (apart from the private ones are free).
@DoapNixon13 I disagree. I've got a form of autism and I've been to five schools, all public, in total because I moved around a lot. I wasn't even diagnosed with autism until my fifth school which was the high school and I didn't get an education plan until I was in the second year.
Now I'm in the second year of college (I guess that's like high school in America) and I'm going to university in September and maybe doing an exchange in the second year. :)

I watched this whole docu last night after borrowing it from my childs OT. I found I could relate to Temple so much despite never deing diagnosed autistic. My child has also not been diagnosed but has sensory differences. I feel lucky. I found my life work in massage therapy where I get proprioceptive deep pressure signals to my brain while working with clients. My work is also my therapy! I am amazed and inspired by Temple and her lifes work!

As the mother of a son with Asperger's, and a substitute teacher that frequently works in Special Ed classrooms with autistic kids, I have an enormous respect for Dr. Grandin. Supervision of health care is taken over by a "case manager", "expert witnesses" by CPS are permitted. Services not probative of false allegation dropped. They change schools & stop all sports and extra-curicular activities,examine the child for emotional pain & repeat anything which causes suffering.

I've seen people who are in a manic or depressive episode and it's not somthing that they can control or make up. Sometimes in a hyper manic state they can become psychotic and even hallucinate.

If you have Autism, you have Mercury poisoning. PERIOD.

@moscowjade I actually have to agree with this persons comment here. I've seen children with severe autism decrease their symptoms by like 60% by raising glutathione levels.. I have neurological issues (not autism) and raising my glutathione helped me bigtime.. was a life saver. moscowjade, not sure why you received so many negative votes.. perhaps people just think you are trying to sell something. People need to get educated. NAC works WONDERS for autism. Research it people!

@DoapNixon13 No, admittedly mine isn't as severe, but I still did need special attention. Before I was diagnosed I was doing really badly and I was below average, but as soon a I got help I began to improve.
I think there should be more free special schools because over here most special schools (apart from the private ones are free).

@DoapNixon13 I disagree. I've got a form of autism and I've been to five schools, all public, in total because I moved around a lot. I wasn't even diagnosed with autism until my fifth school which was the high school and I didn't get an education plan until I was in the second year.
Now I'm in the second year of college (I guess that's like high school in America) and I'm going to university in September and maybe doing an exchange in the second year. :)

I watched this whole docu last night after borrowing it from my childs OT. I found I could relate to Temple so much despite never deing diagnosed autistic. My child has also not been diagnosed but has sensory differences. I feel lucky. I found my life work in massage therapy where I get proprioceptive deep pressure signals to my brain while working with clients. My work is also my therapy! I am amazed and inspired by Temple and her lifes work!

I work with Autism. It is not an advantage. But Aspergers? Well, some of them do alright. On average, better computer programmers etc. But Aspergers is a different animal.

What right do you people have to attack children diagnosing them as Autistic because you want to more MONEY doing the teaching which should be available to all these normal to above average kids in a regular classroom? How many abuse kids physically REORIENT THEM and pretend to CARE? so busy gypping and cheating children that you surely don't know...

@AnneFox7 We don't have children in our home. We attempt to reabilitate adults. You're obviously upset about something to think that you know better than a national society that dedicates all of time and money toward Autistic research and living support. Our guys come from a huge variety of backgrounds. Some of them come from institutions that have long since been shut down.

During what FNs call the "sixties scoop" against First Nations persons Lobbyists in Alberta influencing removal of children from homes. Children were abused, drugged ,incarcerated, not schooled, some sterilized. @AnneFox7 I must point out that I am a UK resident, so I know nothing about what lobbyists in Alberta did. But then again, not all Autistic people are as fortunate as Temple. Autism is a very complex spectrum, the results of which can be a blessing, such as Temple who was able to harness her unique point of view - with huge support from people like us; but more often than not, result in a complete detachment from reality and profound learning disabilities. Look up the National Autistic Society.

@AnneFox7 PS if you are responsible for dependent adults taking medications it is in their interest to be included in any law-suite made against the makers of the medications they are taking or have taken. They have the right to be compensated and treated for any bad effect or damages. You are in a position of trust to them. We are going to stop this abuse. Lawsuites support the development of LAW. As the mother of a son with Asperger's, and a substitute teacher that frequently works in Special Ed classrooms with autistic kids, I have an enormous respect for Dr. Grandin. She's living proof that there is no upper limit on what autistic people can achieve or contribute. To the vegetarians -- I eat veg 3-4 days/ week, but the choice here is not between killing and not killing. It's between humane and inhumane. Cattle exist because we raise them for food. If we all are veg, no beef cows.

It's a great documentary, but I really wish they renamed this to something that couldn't be interpreted in the wrong way. "The Woman who thinks like a cow"? It took me a year after I heard about this documentary to actually watch it because I seriously thought this was posted by some asshole disrespecting Temple. Thank God I was so wrong.
