You know I have to say, I like your twist to this song. Ne-yo's version is very similar to the Rihanna's. It really sounds like it comes from the heart. You must have been broken by this. This type of lyrics doesn't come out from thin air. You can have a girl falling in love with this song.

I'm sure that you've been practicing with your voice a lot so to help, one constructive criticism. Practice singing with your belly and the bottom of your chest, not from your throat and head. That way, when you go to your low notes, especially the really low ones, it won't sound like you disappear from the track and that way you won't be straining your throat either. Trust me, it works out your core muscles if you learn to do it right.
