  • I hope the 508th lives on in greatness! My desire is that the barracks become a palace where young breasty women feed grapes to brave soldiers, and wine is served at breakfast.

  • one- this video is old two- the new barracks for 4th bct 2508 are the shit three- you had pictures of airborne school barracks on the video that doesnt really count........cause airborne school was only three weeks and wasnt bad at all is was fun and the barracks themselves were pretty nice

  • I remember this. This lit a fire under the Army's ass. I was stationed in Korea at the the time that this story broke out. The entire Army had a mandatory health and welfare inspection of the barracks. And the Soldiers were to annotate any complaints they had about the barracks. Things were definitely made for the better after this. Thank you.

  • I had to laugh at the spongebob toilet. lol

  • I was in Iraq when these photos were taken. When I got back to Bragg it felt like the majority of Ardennes st. had been leveled to make way for new barracks. I credit these photos for either the new barracks or at least lighting a fire under the 82nd command's asses. It was an honor to serve 5 years in the army, but these pictures symbolize to me what the 82nd really thinks about and treats their troops. Those barracks may be gone but that mentality is still there.

  • Bet you won't find a goverment provided politicans house that looks like this.

  • i hate those barracks :(

  • i lived in these barracks from jan 2009 to april when we deployed. i purchased a pressure washer myself to clean the community bathroom because it was horrible. these korean war era barracks are unacceptable for anyone. when we got back in march of 2010 we all joked we would be moving back into them, i was half nervous.

  • If the army is not willing to fix it up... It will not be long before they will be moving into their new diggs...

  • I've seen better looking prisons

  • I lived in these barracks buildings in the 1980's and they were kept in good, serviceable condition. It looks like this buildingwas empty for a few years and then they just assigned the returning unit into their old, NEGLECTED building. A general should get relieved for this. They will not do that though.

We are turning in the soviet union, or some other third world country- for the sake of rich people and their pursuit of power and money. We Americans deserve this because we tolerate it.

  • @7mikethebike I lived in these barracks in the 90's (3/504) and they sucked by then. They weren't quite as bad as this video- almost, but not quite. I have photos, and people I have showed them to thought it looked like a prison.

  • I was in the 82 Airborne from 1994-1998. So, I lived in these kinds of barracks. But...As old as they were, My battalion managed to keep ours decent. Our commanders didn't let them fall apart. Our Command Sergeant Major and Lt. Colonel went through often. They would never put up with this.

  • Our soldiers and their families should not have to live like this. Mold can cause serious health problems. For accurate information about the health effects of mold and indoor contaminants, go to truthaboutmold_._info and globalindoorhealthnetwork_._com.

  • As a soldier myself, currently stationed at Ft. Bragg, i would like to take the time to thank all armed forces supporters in america. I would also like to state that living conditions are no longer sub-standard, and the army promptly responded to the call for better living conditions. I have been pleased overall with my treatment as a soldier, and would also like to commend all the army does for he soldiers. This whole incidend boils down to failure to communicate within the chain of command.

  • Ok. This video just flat out pissed me off! I am 13 and joining the US Military when I finish High school and I have never been so disgusted with them...

  • @clark -this isn't an "everyone stop crying" kind of event. I lived in those barracks for a while, and for the record they are demolished. they were destroyed and turned into a parking lot, so no, you would have it pretty good right about now, but when I lived in them we were walking to the showers in flip flops while guys in hazmat suits roamed the halls, doors were taped off with police tape because of black mold, you've seen the pictures.....and I'm glad you didn't have to live like that...

  • im with 2508 and i live nothing like that so i guess watever people r bitchin about.. its working, cause the army treats us pretty good... and the chow hall is preetyy fuckin good to... so everyonce in a while they ran out of the salad bar... cry a river, the army is alot nicer now than it was stop crying

  • my showe curtain is exactly like this one! US Army barracks in Korea

  • Ive been in the Army for about a year. Pretty much every barracks i lived in looked like this. I never really had a problem with it, its part of of our life. I cant help to mention.....but at least they have toilet paper haha. If it matters im also an Airborne Infantryman and i report to fort bragg on the 4th of january.

  • thank you, sir for taking the time to make this. it's nice to know that some people do a little more than slap a support ribbon on their car.

  • USMC Vietnam vet 68-69 I have a relative at this base and my trooper complains they never have enough food in the messhall. no matter what time you go to eat,,they run out of fruit, eggs, biscuits etc...seem like the mess sargent is trying to cut back on his requsitions for chow to feed our soilders, I'm sending emails to NC congressmen and senators,,whats going on at Fort Bragg?? an't they feed our troops properly..what are we paying taxes for,,where is the money going to??

  • OK guys when I deployed from Ft Bragg in 05 it was like that in Öld Division." We all complained about it, took photos and so on. Even informed out congressman. When we arrived in 06 they took us to the same barracks! and they were in the same condition. I don't know how things are now. My only question is given that all these units passed through there before members of the 82nd Airborne ... why was nothing done prior?

  • I have sort of an odd question. I was wondering if, by any chance, anyone knows where to find a transcript of this video? I'm doing a paper on the incident and will have to transcribe it myself, but I thought I would ask first. Thank you!

  • thank you for posting this i remember this when i went to iraq in 06, i don't remember when it was a news story but thank you, it may have rubbed people the wrong way but screw em, it woke up the chain of command, because if you son being a sgt would have said hey psg or hey 1sg these barracks need fixed, they would have said, you should have seen what i lived in bla bla bla. so thank you for blowing the whistle, more of this should be done in the army.

  • shocking

  • This is a really good example as to why you should not join the army

  • @pabyizzy your a retard. enjoy your freedom turd.

  • This seems unreal. These are the same barracks division lived in when I was stationed at Bragg 96-00. We were told they were being replaced then. I was not 82nd but also lived in some very old nasty barracks, the red bricks along Gruber rd. This is a joke. Paranoia024 F@#k you!

  • In Canada, we got it soft! My barracks was nicer than the shit-pit apartment I rented for $600/mo! I absolutly was amazed by its cleanliness and appointments. I asked my PO about it and found out it was still being used to house allied guests, and we were the first greenhorns to pollute the place. I guess we don't have the capacity or turnover the US does, and this also contributes the the easy living feel of it. Also- it was for civies who would never cut muster and spec techs.

  • I spent time in the "Old Division" barracks in early 2006 and early 2007 when I returned from Afghanistan. And I'm Air Force, so that was a shock for us back then. Army accomodations are supposed to be unpleasant, as is everything else with that branch of the military. Plus Fayetteville and Fort Bragg, North Carolina are unpleasant places with unpleasant locals (particularly the cab drivers and base employees) and Bragg Blvd looking like the alternate world of It's a Wonderful Life

  • this is like an apartment in the projects, its fucked up. and i thought the Los Alamitos base barracks were bad.

  • I lived in 82 barracks from 1961 to 1964..They were pretty new back then and we didn't have any problems...but after almost 40 years stuff does wear out and needs to be replaced..

  • camp atterburry is pretty nice...People should live clean...this is SSSaaaDDD!!!!

  • Did they ever get to tearing all of them down. I went on Google Earth and still see the old ones up at Ft. Eustis were I served and lived in for years.

  • I was right down the street in D BTRY 3/4 ADAR, those barracks were shitholes as well.

  • I lived in the barracks right next to this one.. Shithole

  • @marler1985

They''d torn most of them down by the time i was leaving.

  • i feel for your son my dad went through charlie company 82nd airborne in 1983 and he told me that he was supposed to be the last company to go through the 1942 barracks and apparently he wasnt

  • man it looks like basic training barracks. that sucks

  • I can,t accept that!!!!makes me sad and angry

  • they better have torn this condemned barracks down!!! This is just disgusting and deplorable!! How dare the Army make our soldiers and heros live in a dump like this!! I hope things are better now with new housing!!!

  • They moved us out of those in Dec 08. I'm currently deployed with this unit and lived in the barracks shown above. New barracks are built and ready upon returning home.

  • 1st-I like your voice

2nd-after 15 months, FIFTEEN months of seeing nothing but sand and spiders they should send them to a palace

3rd-if they would've gotten a higher score on the ASVAB, they could be in the Air Force, sometimes it pays to be smart!

4th-The ARMY is the easiest branch to go up in ranks, it's gotta have it's bad things also!

  • @cangriman0101 You are one of those dicks that have never done any thing with your life. So how dare you talk down a Paratrooper. Go play your MW2 and keep thinking that you are smarter that the people in our Army. The same men who are willing to take the hard over the easy.

    Ariborne Leads the Way!!!!!

  • @killgroth666 HOOAH!

  • Shit my buddies down in bragg right now is it still bad like this? if it is i feel bad for him.

  • This is terrible! Did they fix the problem? Are they building better bases for active duty members?

  • @TheActionGuy1 BAH is Basic allowance for Housing.

  • Thanks for showing me this, and one more reason "NOT" to join the armed forces. We all know the politicians divert necessary military funds into their own pockets. I.E. We all know that "DICK CHENEY" owns stock in Halliburton which also supply's the middle eastern wars, where the cost of a simple toilet seat goes for hundreds of dollars. More info "Halliburton Scandals"

No, I don't think I want to be a chess pawn and sacrifice my life for the "FRAUDULENT RICH"

  • Sir, Thank you very much for this video. I see that it was posted in 2008, I was wondering if you have seen any follow ups. This is one of the many reasons that I left the Army. Our Soldiers live in these conditions at HOME while Washington DC Politicians take multi million dollar trips to Norway and evening trips to New York. How much we pay it taxes this is unacceptable.

  • This is how most of the barrqacks are. They just had an obestas (sp?) problem in the ones that my husband works in. Completely its insane!!

  • 8:14 WTF!!!

  • I remember these barracks. I called them home in 1970-71 I served as a SGT E5 with the 82nd Airborne Military police Company. My daughter is currently serving with HHC 8nd Brigade Support Battalion. She reports that she is living in a brand new barracks and the old ones have been torn down. A satellite photo from google earth shows that the place were my home was is now a construction site.

  • This sucks balls. I served from '95-'99, 1st AD infantry and then E Co, 51st LRS.

Our boys busting their ass in Afghanistan and Iraq deserve way better than this- whether you support those wars or not.

    Airborne!

  • Comment removed

  • @rockdischic my boyfriend is going there aswell i worried too

  • Good man.

  • This man should be awarded!!

  • I was a cold war trooper 1980-1983 CSC 1/504 RECON

What the hell happened??? The barracks were maintained very well back then - it looks like a f#@kin ghetto their living in now! How can the government let these Troopers, that have busted there ass fighting this war, come home to this??? Time to let the guys at the top come up with a good answer!

General Vincent Brooks was our (Lt) Platoon Leader back then - Time to look him up.... SP/4 Delcourt

  • There's alot of barricks this way. Looks alot like ours at benning lol

  • God Bless our Armed Forces !!

  • Thank you so much for exposing these issues that plague our world today. We need to seriously step up and unite as a people.

There is no reason for people in general to be treated like this, let alone our soldiers.

  • This is horrible!!! I am pissed..Sorry your son has to live in thos conditions!

  • Nice diggs. We spent four and a half months in similar conditions in Bragg before going to the Ghan. Raw sewage, vermine, ect.... Today I found out I may have been exposed to asbestos in there. That's just wonderful.

  • Not to diminish the impact of your message, but I am active duty Air Force and have been deployed to Iraq twice myself, I am stationed at Andrews AFB, MD and the building we work out of is very comparable to these barracks...it is an airplane hangar...basically I think it comes down to leadership putting forth the money and effort to provide a higher quality of life for people...it all comes down to money. Sad but true.

  • I need to make a video like this for some of the Marine Corps barracks ive stayed in, terrible

  • I lived in these barracks up till a few months ago.....they cleaned em up slapped some paint on the walls...thank god I got a house.

  • I agree that the barracks are appalling, I was there but come on they could have changed the shower curtain and the toilet seat, he's an NCO, he knows better, I can only imagine what his 1SG said when he saw this, I guess he must be on permanent CQ or staff duty or something like that. ALL THE WAY, AIRBORNE.

  • Yeah I went through the same thing in the 82nd but we couldn't complain, we were "government property", not civilians with rights.

  • Yeah I had to endure these living conditions as well in the 82nd, I went to afghanistan for 1 year, came back and got new barracks at 18th abn corps but i guess I felt we could'nt complain cause they always make sure you remember that " your government property" and have no rights as a civilian.

  • I had no idea. This is just appalling. Thank you for posting this. Where is this project currently sitting? Is new housing being built?

Are these kinds of conditions nation wide?

  • No The 82nd Is transforming

  • You should come and take pics of the housing we familys have to live. Where I live in cassablanca is horriable living roaches mold paint chips everywhere water leaks in the roof it is bad here but yet they will not let us live in certain places because it is substandard living!!!!!!!!! This is much worse

  • I lived in Cassablanca in 05-06, on S. Dougherty.

    I feel ya.

  • It makes me sick to my stomach to hear this. I retired from the Army and did a good tour in Viet Nam. Yes, we are treated like shit when we are done. The Veterans Administration and U.S. Government stink when it comes to caring for it's Military. They'd rather have lavish vacations and posh homes for themselves. Obama is the worse of the bunch. I would never serve again for this government.

  • I spent 20 years in the Military and I have to agree 100%. Our coutnry could care less about the brave men and women who give their lives for the freedom of those crooked politicians. I think we should sute up Barney Frank, Obama, and a few other dirt balls and let them sleep for a year in a fox hole some place hot, dirty, and smelly. It is about time we take care of our men and women of the Armed Services. I will fight for them all!!!!

  • Damn.

  • the British army bosses treat combat soldiers like this too, unfit conditions that havent been renovated for decades.

I have to ask though why the soldiers themselves do not appear to be doing any maintenance to where they have to live.

Come-on Sgt Corn, how much does a new curtain cost??

    Very shocking all the same

  • yea, fuck it, im not joining the army after watching this. not afraid to fight, but if they want to treat soldiers like this, why would I join?

  • You are lucky there is no draft. When I spent 3 years in Viet Nam there was the draft and if I did not go there was prison. That's the way they treat you. Then when you come home from fighting for your country they do nothing to help you. I really don't blame you. I don't want my sons to ever join and I did over 20 years!

  • Hey man, I know this video is meant to be an eye opener, but it doesn't portray the Army as a whole. I just left the Army after 4 years of service to return to Grad school. I can truly say it was one of the best 4 years of my life.

Not only did I leave with dignity, but I manged to buy a house, finish my bachelor's, and meet my wife. This all happened in the span of 4 grueling, but very memorable years.

Good luck to you. 18th ABN Corps, Airborne all the Way. Ft. Bragg, NC.

  • Hey man, I know this video is aimed at being an eye-opener, but you shouldn't brush off the Army from this single perspective.

I just left the Army to attend graduate school after 4 years of service. Within those 4 years resides some of the best memories I've had in my life.

Met some great people, got married, landed a great job after the Army. Great memories.

Good luck. 18TH ABN Corps, Ft. Bragg, NC

  • idk if my recent post posted. but i lived in those exact same barracks until about a week ago we moved out.

  • they havent tore those down yet, i moved out of those exact same barracks about a week ago, and you just made me realize why i was being paid partial BAH, which is about 140 some dollars, i came from the marine corps and was told the army would treat me alot better, i thought i was gonna live in the nice hotel looking ones then i arrive there and was disgusted and asking around my unit had just came back from iraq and thats where theyve been the whole time NCOs and all.

  • @franktheweapon What does BAH mean?

  • What an absolute disgrace. Those who sacrifice so much and this is what they receive as a reward for their efforts?

We pay everybody else (Halliburton, Blackwater, etc.) top dollar, and those that volunteer get to live in this type of SHIT HOLE . . .

    Disgraceful . . .

The Government that is responcible for this should be SACKED !

  • When I first arrived at Bragg in Jan 08, I was on detail to clean those barracks. We cleaned, cleaned and cleaned.

But all they gave us were dirty rags and an old mop. This is a three story building, falling apart, mold everywhere, lead paint peeling, pipes broken, and toilets unreliable at best. Yet, they expected 10 new guys to get it ready for the guys re-deploying.

Welcome to the Army Infantry. Enlist today!

  • When my bf lived in the barracks he was always trying to get them to get rid of the mold (which was all over the ceiling and up underneath) and they NEVER fixed it. He was always sick. Im glad this shit went to the media.

  • I think they should get a Brand new one who is with me?!

  • Your son doesn't deserve what thay put him in. I think that the building could be broken to peaces if charlie co. tried at it. i think they should have a brand new one with luxury things everywere! Who is with me?!

  • Being in the military for awhile i can say more than half the shit wrong with our barracks is our fault.

  • I really appreciate this video sir, and God Bless your son. I spent 8 years in NBC Spec Ops in the Army, seeing Ft. Bragg living quarters and enlisted who can't keep their family fed is the reason I did not re-enlist after my contract was up. We need to take care of our troops, period, end of story.

  • Perhaps all the time it took to take these pictures could have been spent fixing up the place...

  • Well this is just about the dumbest response I have gotten to the video.

    Ed Frawley

  • @leerburg When my unit (1/16 INF 1st BDE 1st ID) got back Fort Riley from Iraq in 04, we also had been promised new barracks. The Army had build a whole new complex just for us. We did not get them. We ended up living in barracks much like the one's in the video. We came back in early October, our heater did not work and was still not fixed by November, But the division did create a policy in recognition of our special circumstances, they issued a policy banning the use of space heaters.

  • @leerburg lol ed you rock.

  • @leerburg im in bragg right now and my buddie is in the 508 and those building you have in the pictures being built are the one they are in right now, and the barracks that are all shitty are long gone, it defentifly a tempory stay for the guys till they could move into the new ones

  • @Paranoia024 Sir, I was a soldier in The Black Watch for many years, as much as I sympathise with your plight and do agree with your complaints, its like this. When a soldier signs to join, he signs, Full Stop. A soldier does what he's told and thats it! I understand your frustration at the horrors. We never had a luxury of a phone call, internet and some of the food they are having now. After saying that, the barrack shots are awful, and its simple, get rid of the dipsticks that were elected!

  • they need to blam that building and give them somewhere to chill :( i mean, who would want to live in shiz like that and then have to go get shot at!!! i hope george bush will die in a fire

  • Okay, lets build a huge mansion for them that will get bombed as soon as it is noticed by the taliban =S. the money they dont use on accomodation goes on explosives and ammo. im sure the soldiers wouldnt mind sleeping on a sharp rock as opposed to not sleeping at all or even worse, sleeping forever after being shot.

those guys aint complaining and you arent the one using the living spaces, so dont come on youtube preaching about your beliefs, coz this video isnt gunna change shit.

  • Nice to see a genius like you on here. This man is a hero and so is his Son....and you've done nothing but shame the diseased uterus you had the misfortune to be slopped out of. People like you should have had a hanger shoved in your soft little skull.

I'm writting my Gongress my familiy and anyone who will listen to get this shit fixed.

I hope some one who knows you and see's your posts will punch you in the fucking mouth...

  • surprise, surprise...this video did make a difference. Next time show some respect...cause whether what you say is truth or not, he was only looking out for the soldiers. They don't need mansions, but they don't deserve that either...

  • Dumbass Mother Fucker!

I think you would think otherwise if you had to spend time in iraq with almost no time to clean up or talk to your family!

And hey your saying it like it is none of his buisness yet it was his son who is in this mess not you!

  • I agree, and i was in the USAR 307th eng bn, 82ndABN. We never had a day were we weren't painting or waxing and replacing ceilingtiles. We kept that damned barracks running because we had to live in it. (and because our 1sg would have our ass if not) I remember the hallways being slippery as glass after an inspection, ,and the stairwells were always re pointed and traction matted when necessary. Our supply clerk gave us everything we needed to work and we did just that. SAPPERS ROCK!

  • I was a combat engineer in the Marine Corps and I have to agree with gpgab971...barracks life is what you make of it. We had to supply our own shower curtains. If we were fvcking around and broke a toilet or a drinking fountain, it came out of A)Our pay, and B)Our ass from the BEQ manager. If paint was peeling, we stripped and repainted. We had to strip and wax the floors of the ENTIRE barracks, every week. Yes they are heroes, and the conditions are bad, but a lot of it can be helped.

  • The buildings are made to last forever if they are taken care of. Without supervision a bunch of teenagers can screw stuff up real fast.

  • They deserve better than this.

  • I remember seeing this story on the national news a year or so ago and I can tell you a lot of improvements have been made not just at bragg but in lots of other places. there are still miles to go but it goes one step at a time.

thanks for doing this and I hope your son is doing well.

  • this is disgusting i can that you for taking these photos and makeing this video because it made the army improve all there barracks

  • What does IED Mean?

  • With a $600B+ budget, this is inexcusable. I stayed in condemned barracks that looked very much like this (with the addition of a jackhammer sitting on a pile of dust, in the middle of the hallway for 9 months, left over from a contractor that just decided to give up after receiving a large sum of money).

The problem is not, not enough budget. The problem is not enough competence. Not enough attention. Not enough dedication from the upper leadership to the soldiers.

  • Yes, you are correct, it is horrible living condition. It is unfortunate but the US Army have always treated unmarried soldiers as a second class citizens. They utilize the funds saved by cheating the single soldiers elsewhere. It is unfortunate but I hope in the future soldiers will be treated the same.

    Army Retired

  • I'm really getting upset with this, as I am an airman. I was in Pope at the time starting in '05. Some of the new, grande-style barracks were built, but I still saw old, run-down ones that have yet to be demolished. I suppose I was lucky to have a branch that pushed for QoL but all branches should be up to par.

What cause does the Army have against the unmarried? I guess they feel that because they have "no family of their own" to tend to, they are easily disposed with!

  • Also, it's not the soldiers who are complaining. They're trained to follow orders. The families of the soldiers have to complain for them because a soldier [hero] never complains when they serve our country. Give something back to these men who gave so much of themselves to defend our country and secure our freedoms.

  • Horrible conditions. These are supposed to be barracks for soldiers to rest and recuperate before their next deployment. However, these barracks would probably cause illness before they serve any other purpose. leerburg, although this was a year+ ago, may be you could provide contact information to help you with complaints.

Are there any other updates to this situation? Please add annotations to your video if there are?

  • Yep.. The Marines leave 20% of their unit behind so they can keep the bearacks clean while thye main body is deployed!

  • It was common for us to stay in places that looked like this when we would do our Annual Training. I was in the 28th SIG BN out of PA. And while yes it was just a National Guard BN, sometimes we would stay on active duty posts, and they would put us up in old WWII barracks that would have rust all over and mold. It was gross.

While my husband was @ Airborne school @ Fort Benning he stayed in old barracks that if someone flushed the toilet somewhere you would get scalded by the water.

  • OMG ceiling tiles are missing!!! WHAT WILL THEY DO??

  • keep your mouth shut, u're not the one that has to live in those kind of condition after almost losing your life.

  • I don't know, what would you do? Sit there and watch your home fall apart? We not only busted our asses cleaning and repairing but like all armed forces personnel in temporary billeting we kept our pride. Unlike civilian life there is little contracted out to repair. You either did it yourself (ceiling tiles to welding to masonry) or you lived in a shithole like the video shows.

  • When he joined the Army he is no longer yours.... He is the Army's

  • What a stupid comment.

    Ed Frawley

  • my brothers friend said he had signed ..and was property of government for 4 years.

  • This video of how our soldiers are treated when they came back from OEF is disgusting and a damn outrage, talking about being pissed off , thats not even close to the way I'm feeling right now. When I deployed to Iraq from Cambell , we were told we would have new barracks waiting for us when we got back. We lived in run down WWII barracks, but they at least removed all the mold in our building paid a safety crew to make sure the building was obestos free and re painted everything, the 82nd didn'

  • why can't our governments sort these things out, its true what they say 'old men declare war but young men go to war'

  • This is how the barracks in North Fort (Fort Lewis) look like. Theese are the same barracks reservist and national guard troops stay in while getting ready to deploy or redeploying.

  • We are STILL living there.

    AIRBORNE!!!

  • I live in officer family housing on Ft. Bragg. I have been going to the hospital since August with abscesses and they just decided to tell me last night that all of my cultures have come back positive with MRSA.

The housing here is infested with it, they know this and do nothing. I have an infant son and they are unfazed with the fact that he has been exposed.

I am thoroughly disgusted with the treatment of soldiers and their families on Ft. Bragg.

  • I spent 9 months in this barracks back in 03-04 and is a shame they haven't change them yet. We where told at that time that we were the last ones living on those barracks. A lot of people got sick because of the mold. We had to cross the street to other abandoned buildings to get sealing tiles in better conditions.

  • The just moved the soldiers out of these barracks. They are tearing them dow. Before this video came out this was not supose to happen until 2011 - so we see the power of the INternet and Youtube here

    Ed Frawley

  • I can't believe how my old barracks deteriorated to such a level. We used to complain about them back in '97-'01 (3/504), but this is ridiculous. My memories of C-4123 are pretty fond....it is sad that these poor Joes were neglected and forced to live under these conditions. Why the Infantry units were among the last to get the new barracks at Bragg? Crazy. Thanks for posting this - thankfully the news jumped all over it.

  • It was the same at 3/4 ADA, just down the street after Desert Storm back in 1991.

  • **my husband is in ft.Gordon. suppose to be stationed in ft.Bragg,NC---i know these B's....matter of fact..my best friend was put in these 2 weeks before his 9 month deployment...needless to say...he lived with me and my husband and 2 kids til he left..he said he'd rather live in his truck****SUPPORT (((YOUR))) TROOPS**** HOOAH****

  • Support the troops! Ooorah!

  • These barracks are "Hammerhead" barracks Type 64, designed and built in the 50s, not 1942.

Most of these billets are scheduled for demolition before 2014. Post Engineers are responsible for the maintenance of all the buildings on the base. I know my old First Sergeant would not have waited for post engineers....and would have had us scraping, painting, mopping, waxing, etc. etc. all week long if necessary.

  • Too bad the Army doesnt have field days. Once a week Marine barracks are inspected and Marines get gigged if their room isnt perfectly clean in every way. That is horrible about the 82nd barracks. They should be treated better after coming back from Afghanistan. The Army should really help these guys out...

  • Dont place the entire blame on the military for these conditions. Blame your congressmen. Blame your politicians who dont seem to think the living conditions are bad. This situation in TF Fury's barracks were not because of the military's lack of desire to better the conditions of their soldiers... this was a result of CIVILIAN contractors unable to meet their own deadlines and the military's inability to do anything about it due to beuracratic BS. So Thank your Congressman for his role here

  • please see ft bragg nightmares as a continuous problem at ft bragg containing asbestos. We need your support to help our soldiers fight for what is right as they are away from there families who cannot protect them as they are in harms way here in these deplorable conditios. (asbestos)

  • This is embarrassing! This is a great video. This just shows how much the military takes care of our people. A new incident has recently happened AGAIN in the 82nd Airborne. Look at the video about ASBESTOS in Fort Bragg and comment and rate the video! We have to help our troops, obviously they wont!

  • shoulda went air force lol... jk that sucks real bad and this is how our leaders think of our troops??? wow

  • Thank you for this video, and your clarity in the meaning of patriotism and hero. I link to this video at my website and have always felt it was a seed in my decision to stand up. There must be documentation of this. And you have done that. Thank you again and again.

  • Come on man, we are supposed to take care of them, they have dangerous jobs, they have to live in shithole countries in the field, at least we can give them decent housing when they are home, right?

  • Leerburg,as a Marine wife, let me say Thank You for taking a stand for these men. They sacrifice everything for us and they deserve a lot better from a lot of things than they are getting. ooorah

  • Questions: Are the living conditions for soldiers recieving this "BAH" vs. soldiers in the barracks comparable?

Also, how do the soldiers living conditions who live in on post homes vs. barracks soldiers compare?

  • This is an outrage, nice way to take care of our servicemen. Former USA paratrooper, 12th SFG(A)

  • I know of former soldiers working for a private contractor in Iraq. They make over $500 a day. Yes, that is $500 and DAY. NO TYPO. But we can't get these guys new barracks. Or at least BAH until they get suitable living conditions? SAD.

  • thank you so much sir when i become a LT i will make sure this will never happen

  • LTC maybe. If your BC makes your soldiers live in these baracks, what are you going to do? Move them all into your town house?

  • Great video. You are completely right. People use dead soldiers to compare this too, don't understand that the US is spending billions on secret programs, but cant spend money on respect for these guys. It's not only the housing, its even more the treatment of injured soldiers, and the completely lack of attention for these heroes to get back to society.

It's obvious to me the government that privatly makes huge amounts of money through companies profiting from the war, just doesn't give a crap

  • lee burg youre the man despite what others say i thank you for speaking up when i couldnt say anything

  • Why is it the majority of the military posts are "oh yea, I've lived like that, deal with it" and you Ed, keep telling them that they haven't? The broken record thing is unbecoming.

  • Do you know whats unbecoming? An American platoon of 39 men spending 15 months in the mountains of Afghanistan, where 20 out of 39 of them hit IED's (road side bombs) and then coming home and forced to live in barracks like this.

This was not done because it was just my son, it was done because I looked at all these kids as my son.

People like you and the two posts below disgust me.

  • I lived in those same barracks when it was the 504PIR. Man thank God your son came home. Stop crying about something so small. Leave your home for 15 months and see what you return to.

  • I have spent may a year in the army, 13 to be exact and have lived at Bragg. * weeks without a shower isn't much, Stop whining cause your son is in the Army and doing his job. You make me sick, we do what we do so you can bitch. Yes, the conditions arent the best but we dont expect the best, just respect.

  • 13 years in the Army and you're talking like this? You don't have the respect of your soldiers do you? Then again, you're probably a 13 year E4.

  • Thank you for creating and posting this. The code violations and filth appear to be all over the common areas! Talk about "deferred maintenance"! Let's hope for much improvement there.

  • We soldiers have taken a oath and with that commitment noting is certain except uncertainty. I was in Fort Hood and although my barracks were not this bad they were not exactly new. We lived 2 to a room it was cramped. The Army is building new barracks. I am out now and soon after I enlisted in the Marines. I am much happier here then I was in the Army.

  • I'm Air Force and was assigned to one of those "In lieu of taskings" with the Army for a year and had training at Fort Bragg before we left for Afghanistan and stayed in Old Division Barracks. The fact was, I had 16 years in the Air Force before this, so I was used to their ways and that in spite of their self-righteous "core values" and robotic leadership among the higher ranks, we've always been well cared for no matter where we were. And Fayetteville is a sleaze pit. Army is dirty all the way

  • Thank you for getting this information out. My son is also stationed in Ft. Bragg and had lived in these barracks.

  • This makes me so angry. And i'm no American.

  • Ok, yah this sucks, they really do need to be given better spaces to live. BUT i have a question, do they have the option to live off base and collect BAH? Also, to bring up the fact that they are in "Iraq" for 15 months over, and over, and over is not needed. They all signed on the dotted line and knew what they were getting into. I know from experence that, ide say, 70-80% of the damage to the barracks is/was from the soliders themselves. I say stop whining and serve your country with pride.

  • When they returned from Afghanistan they did not have BAH - as a result of this video E4 and above got BAH.

Your 70 to 80% comment is stupid. Its not only wrong it's stupid. You obviously never saw or lived in barracks like this. When it rains they flood, when they flood the mold grows. Do you think the soldiers screwed up the roof? A STUPID COMMENT deserves this kind of answer.

    Ed Frawley

  • I wish that someone would make a video like this for all the barracks at valley forge military academy in wayne, PA...I can empathize with these soldiers...

  • Send me the current photos - Ill have a look and if it I will do iot.

    Ed Frawley

  • I'm shocked and disgusted by this. My long-time friend SPC Shultz just came home from almost a year in Iraq... and guess where he's living? Yup, you don't even have to guess, do you? Isn't this what we pay taxes for, folks?! Even when I was in the service, I NEVER lived like this.

  • The Savannah District of the Corps of Engineers is proud of the new barracks we have built, and we can't wait for the Soldiers to move into them.

    Jennifer Small

    US Army Corps of Engineers

    Savannah District

  • While I appreciate your comments- the fact is the Army is saying these old barracks will not be replaced until 2011. That means men have to live in crap barracks for several more years

  • The Corps of Engineers is in the midst of a 10-year Barracks Replacement Project at Fort Bragg. We are almost finished with the facility that will replace said barracks, at the end of 2008. It is important to us that our Soldiers live in adequate housing whenever possible.

  • Sir, you should come a few towns over and see how the Marine corps lives. We could use the publicity you created. The living conditions around Camp Lejeune are bad enough that you wouldnt want to stay long enough to take those pictures. not only does our mold have MORE mold growing on it than those barracks, the water pipes that leak drip through the roof and then you have the mold and water falling. Those conditions arent good, no they arent even acceptable, but i challenge you to try ours

  • Go take the photos and email them to me - Ill do your video for you - use google to get my email address. They dont let you post them here.

    Ed Frawley

  • o and yes i would leave that comment because i have lived in those conditions...

we are soldiers.. we are 82nd PAratroopers.. we do MORE with LESS... thats why we are who we are.. thats why we are not like the other units...

  • I will guarantee that you have not been there for long, and you have not lived in these shitty baracks. Lets see if you feel the same 4 years from now after two more depoloyments. I think your outlook will change

    Ed Frawley

  • o get over it... all of this back here is better than what we had over there...

at least over here we have toilets.. privacy.. we dont have to worrry about getting Mortoar rounds or IEDS or ebing sho tat....

all of this at Fort Bragg is better than what we had over there inIRaq.. we are Soldiers... we work 24/7.. we can handle crappy barracks...

and yeah Fort Bragg has New Barrack sup Every where now.. they are like Apartments...
