  • You people do know that non-violent protest solves nothing right? Its like this mass psychosis that people are indoctrinated with which prevents you from seeing that situations like this end in violence and violence is the only way to overcome a greater force which used the force agaisnt you. keep repeating the mantra that the the same people you are protesting agaisnt have taught you which allows them to go on unfettered in doing shit.

  • @JGvisions - IF we (OWS or any group) seeks to claim Constitutional rights to "peaceably assemble" from our 1st Amendment, then choosing violent methods is immediately recognized as a gross hypocrisy by those who might otherwise join OWS, but haven't yet.

Violent actions will not attract more folks, and OWS will not achieve critical mass participation. Emma Goldman made that same transition in her thinking from violent revolutionary to non-violent advocate over her life.

  • @jwoolson yeah, the reason why is because they have been taught to fear violence. its a part of our nature and apart of the historical cycle of our social system which actually brings about real change when you are, again, facing an opponent whose authority and actions are backed by force. the right to peaceful assembly and by relation, protest, are only relevent and effective when that assembly causes friction at the place where it is happening. hense why they passed ordinances...part1

  • @jwoolson...laws which prevent these assemblies from actually taking place in the streets where traffic and the life blood of the city flows.its why you need permits to do it and its why they only allow you to assemble in places where nothing will happen. Also, Most of Goldmans best work was during her anarchist years and those events early on did more for pushing social equality than her later work. her later work was less of a motivator which was more agreeable to the oliarchy at the time!

  • @JGvisions The use of non-violence does NOT come from authorities, but from anti-authoritarian movement leaders like Martin Luther King, Jr., M.K. Gandhi, and those two cite Henry David Thoreau as their main philosophical influence. See Vaclav Havel in Czechoslovakia, 1989, as a successful non-violent revolution.

There are MANY ways to act

Getting more police to ally with the OWS movement is THE way forward.

  • @jwoolson You do realize that both Ghadi and martin luther kind and all pacifist leaders were killed for some reason, and during their life massive race riots erupted in certain parts of the country which passifist action solved nothing in those situations. legislation was passed and changed due to the fact that these race riots were happening, not because people were protesting peacefully. i ask truthfully that you look up the history on these things. there is a reason why its not talked about

  • @JGvisions "At first glance, violence may appear to be a superior technique for resolving conflicts or achieving desired ends because it has obvious and tangible strategies and weapons. Nonviolent techniques are often more difficult to visualise and there is no shortage of moral and practical dilemmas that sceptics are able to raise as impediments to taking nonviolence seriously."

  • @jwoolson also, it has nothing to do with being a superior technique is a tool in a big tool box of thing to be used to change things. people such as yourself seem to forget that it has always been the defining tool in the box which has actually changed things. everything single historical shift in society has been because of violent revolution or revolt. never peaceful protest.Civil right movement, race riots and clashes which is the reason why they wanted to prevent a civil war...part1

  • @jwoolson Ghandi's use of the philosophy of non-violence was used three times as a single unifying movement which was brought to an end three different times due to violent conflict (i forgot the specific names of those conflicts). Ultimately violent force was used to squash his movement and hense his later actions and movitations were relegated to his writings and his teaching which have acomplished nothing in the real sense of changing anything. i mean even his last movement he did...part2

  • @jwoolson ...the british government decided to share power with the indian people in their own country because his followers who were part of the movement were in bloody conflicts with the british which threatened to do alot of damage to his people and the british. its the only reason why he and the government relented. but they never talk about this in history class. they just keep repeating and indoctrinating us with the non violence ideology which ignores the realities of dominance and power!

  • @JGvisions "Yet many reasons can be offered for the employment of nonviolence: it is a 'weapon' available to all, it is least likely to alienate opponents and third parties, it breaks the cycle of violence and counter-violence. it leaves open the possibility of conversion, it ensures that the media focus on the issue at hand rather than some tangential act of violence and it is the surest way of achieving public sympathy. "

  • @JGvisions "Further, non-violence is more likely to produce a constructive rather than a destructive outcome, it is a method of conflict resolution that may aim to arrive at the truth of a given situation (rather than mere victory for one side) and it is the only method of struggle that is consistent with the teachings of the major religions."

  • @jwoolson and you do realize that 1.) the major religions are one of histories greatest motivations for war right? 2.) resolutions can only be equally beneficial to parties in a disagreement when both parties are of equal footing and the resolutions of the conflict will benefit both EQUALLY! when a stonger party interacts with a weaker one, the stronger one will always have the advantage in a given situation and the stonger force will not interact with the other to redress the imbalance...part1

  • We got to help the Occupy Movement grow. I hope more cops will realize that they're being used to do stop people from assembling that want freedom, liberty, and justice for all, including the cops. The real crooks are in very high places and so far, have been untouchable. This is going to end and they know it and fear it.

  • Go google,

How to file Proposed Initiatives and referendums by petition to bring to a vote By ballot (__________) insert your ishue here.

  • The right to petition the government is not really in question in a modern

nation-state based on democratic principles. While a king, whose legitimacy was

grounded in the concept of divine-right monarchy, might have contested his

subjects' rights to press political demands, citizens in a democracy have an

inherent right to petition those politicians who are supposed to serve us.

  • FREEDOM OF ASSEMBLY

The First Amendment prohibits government from abridging "the right of the people peaceably to assemble." People are entitled to assemble and to speak and be heard, as long as they remain nonviolent. This basic freedom ensures that the spirit of the First Amendment survives and thrives even when the majority of citizens would rather suppress expression it finds offensive. This right is guaranteed against unreasonable federal and state restrictions and interference.

  • However, local authorities may properly require that large rallies and parades be held only after the police department has been notified. They may also require permits, as long as the requirement is a general one that all organizations must meet.

  • Then the Goverer can't say shit about it nor vote against it with more than one vote.

  • File a pettition to bring to Vote, of the District the ability to gather there.

    The solution is simple.

    Get the public vote.

    Take back your park,

Exercise your right to publicly gather.

They won't let you? Vote on it.

  • Look I'm millita, I live in Colorado,

you want soldiers for your "Non violant"

Protest? ...Call me when you got to fight.

    Till then? I watch.

  • The "Natzies" Hold Europe, "Wall street", The Street's , "brittain" Have not yet fallen.

  • What was world war 2 untill D-Day?

  • Occupy is not an issue, it's an action. Engaging the public in mass requires a focused debate, which is best accomplished with a single issue, one that offers conversation that effects everyone and has the potential to change everything. Creating actions in which anyone can participate @ any time, any where. That issue is, Individual Directed Capitalization.

  • Couple of thoughts - I think, in order to be successful, the OWS movement has to get to the point where it overwhelms law enforcement's ability to deal with it, when they literally can't arrest everyone. Until that point, I think it would be wise for OWS to do good works to whatever extent possible - let us not forget the lesson of Hamas, which is that people join/vote for movements that do practical, useful things for them.

And thanks for your work, Dennis.

  • Occupy will win because it is a people's movement

  • @ZoneofA Things changed still. Now the people KNOW that they are not free. Your freedom ends where the tear gas of Wall St starts.

  • who is Myerson?

  • Reality check: OWS is dead, easily crushed by police state because it had no effective method of responding to violent oppression. Those stupid protesters actually thought being nice and peaceful will prevent pigs beating them up, now they know better. Most of them will give up, few that remain will be to weak to do anything.

  • Just thought I should tell you I'm using this as a source for an article for my journalism class.

  • I'd like to see it evolve. We'll have to work at it. As has been said, occupying is a tactic. I think it succeeded in bringing many things into the light that didn't seem to be there so much before.

  • I see the whole kitten-ka-bootle being rounded up and shipped off to a fema camp.

  • @Lea71777 Kit n' caboodle.

  • there will be revolution in 2012. feel it in my gut it's gonna be a chaotic year!

  • @OldmanMaestro Most fantasists dream that 2012 will be the "end of the world". As we currently know it. History repeats itself because most people are too stupid to learn from past mistakes. The current robber barons adhere to the same "principles" as the past "christians" that loved feudalism as much as the current corporate "christian" feudalists do.

  • Creeping Sharia Law? I worry about the Talmudists.
