Kinzer begins his premise on the flawed belief that Mossadegh was a "democrat" and democratically elected. This is very far from the truth. As an American liberal, Kinzer wants to find explainable and simplistic reasons and explanations for his thesis, which is originally colored by his leftist view of the world and of US foreign relations. In his own words he didn't know much about Iran, so he fell for any bits and piece of angry propaganda he came across. His book must be unscholarly.

In the late 1940s the CIA undertook a major campaign to influence elections in both Italy & France where the leftists who had led the resistance against Nazism and fascism in their respective country were poised to take power in free elections. The U.S., of course, has never supported democracy anywhere in the world, expecially where communists are involved in an election. The late 1940s were no exception.

@paryazad,Nothing Kinser says is accurate.Many Iranian historians including Dr Matini,Dr Maleki,Mr Shamshiri,Mr MirFetros&even Mosedegh's former acting Foreign Minister Meftah have written books on the August1953national uprising but no1in west is interested to examin them.Amongst his pack ofLIES Kinser claims that Mosadegh was democraticaly elected,sorry but NO PRIMEMINISTER in Iran was ever elected as Iran's1906constitution has given the Shah as his duty to appoint&dismiss all PrimeMinisters.
