I disagree with quardog's opinion below. Rice is a great writer tackling challenging and unpopular topics with style and dignity. I served 13 years in the Marine Corps and I can confirm Rice's "Blind Fall" captures the mystical "esprit de corps" that real Marines understand so well. Only a "wanna-be" would attack a man for exercising his freedom to write what he wants. And if Rice's success were due to his mother, he wouldn't have four NY Times bestsellers in print.

However, homosexual conduct is. Congress has decided that actions such as having gay sex or talking about having it is incompatible with military service. Which i think is fair enough. Besides, if you really want to serve your country, [and not just get tuition] you can make that sacrifice.

If they get the job done as well as a straight guy, and are not engaging in inappropriate conduct, it doesn't matter.
