when I first saw this movie, i thought it was REALLY far fectched and depressing. of course, now with the Hurricane season in full force and all of the flooding in the east coast... I don't believe this movie could be too far off if we aren't too careful on how we might be living in 2500 or even as soon as 2100 ;D!
this is movie is bad simply for the idea of this kind of world. so people knew this was going to happen once the lower parts were already under water, and had hundreds of years to prepare, yet this is the product? its not like it happened in a week...
@illman300 Probably political gridlock. Constant fighting over what to do, resources running out, population out of control as it is forced inland. War. Disease. Starvation.
@Controversialize yeah, but that is happening right now as well, i understand its not in such a big number though. but if this actually happened i imagine it as rich people living on islands cuz they can afford it or something like that and others just striving to survive like this. i mean its not such a bad movie after all after i watched it again (last time before that was years ago) but theres so many ways this movie could have been made into a classic with more thought put into the plot...
I've always wondered why didn't Kevin Costner's pour some sea water in the water-processing machine as opposed to peeing in it! He is surrounded by a world-wide ocean full of salty water and he can't use that instead of pee?
I've always wondered why didn't Kevin Costner's pour some sea water in the water-processing machine as opposed to peeing in it! He is surrounded by a world-wide ocean full of salty water and he can't use that instead of pee?
At least the concept was original. How many robot movies or fucking rehashed ancient world/ combat / medieval / fantasy movies can a person watch?! I mean shit!
@venomousleif if you can tell by the rusty metal on the atolls and on the smokers' ship I'd say centuries far from now. Wikipedia said that it took place around the year 2500 but that just be too silly. Honestly no one can really tell how far in the future or what year this takes place because as if we were one of the people in the movie, we honestly don't know. Even though if this happened we would have found dryland by then.
Never understood why those smoker guys put so much shit on and around their guns, none of those would work with all those tape and shit wrapped around...
to all the people who disliked this movie, ur a bunch of fuckin morons for real, the amount of money spent makin this film as well, bunch of ungrateful cunts if u ask me. Glad this newer generation appreciates this film.
@Brady2k10 yes, i also dont know how ppl hate the movie. Its a very original story with humans in a critical environment and social trends that emerge.
Wanted the trimaran so much still is at universal studios Florida where I saw it last so I've been told there's 2 that where made for the film one at universal and the other in San Diego privately owned now painted White where also the oil tanker is kept on the air port where they scrap old planes
@MrKrownkrash yeah mate they do it all over the world, they recycle waste water which is basicly urine, poo, dodgy water ect and they filter the shit out of it and people drink it.they do it here in australia and other parts of the world
I like action and adventures movies. I was just surprised that I never watched this movie before. It just looks all real and you wanna watch it again. Story, performance, action, music and ending, everything was perfect. I wonder if its on Blue Ray or not yet.
LOL loved this movie as a child and Love it as an Adult but in order to enjoy CRANK the DTS HD Audio UP!!!! and go to Universal studios Hollywood, and by all means Sit in the Green Chairs!!!
@madmiracle he would, at one point in the movie he says its going to rain, so drink as much as you want. when they r feasting on the big fish he kills. however, if it doesnt rain, you have to find other alternatives. in this case, he filters his urine.
The film is not bad per se. I just didn't think it was extraordinary, given its massive budget. The action scenes are loud but don't dazzle. Frankly, I think the movie's greatest asset is the risky decision to base it in such an anti-hero like Kevin Costner's.
I really never understood why this movie is hated so much. I've always loved and its never been given a fair chance. A good non-stop thrillride summer action flick.
@thisisrumorcontrol Me neither, it is one of my favourites with a scenario that has become increasingly possible since the film was made, apart perhaps form the human gills that would not have evolved so quickly. It's a matter of, it's not as good as it should be, considering the super massive budget. With all the money time and effort they put into the movie, you'd expect it to be a lot better than it is. It's a good movie, in and of itself, but it's not $175 million good.
@thisisrumorcontrol ...i agree, i never understood why people didnt like this movie. its like the Road Warrior but with lots of water instead of dirt.
